  • very nice vid. i use alot of ur methods in painting my own black legion army. the only thing i do is when it comes to skulls, i dont do that much with them. for the majority of my skulls i just paint them Bleached Bone then wash em with either Badab Black or Develin Mud, that way it fills up the eye sockets and u get a nice 2 tone color to them. all in all good vid

  • 3:36 Captian Slaughter!

  • Can't decide space marine colour scheme!!! It's either : black legion, alpha legion or world eaters!

  • i think a dry brush is a wast of paint i like the look but the paint you wast. the mwg paints are like 5$ were i live and dont want to use generics because i want my models to look nice

  • i always did the center of the shoulder pad 1st then the edge

  • what did you mean by go over with the paint?is it highlighting or layering?

  • 4:39

    Crusiade my favorite ,Son!

  • Anyone here know what is the difference between tamiya flat black and black?

  • No offence but thanks cos I'm a casual painter and no offence you kinda are, but your better at painting terrain

  • 3:39 captein slaughter ^^

  • i have unsteady arms

i already asked someone how to solve this

by bracing my arm against the table. but when i do that i cant really seem to get close enough to the model.

i might use a magnifying glass or something

  • 4:00....is that slaughter?

  • Is it easier to paint them when they are glued together or by individual parts?

  • @Darthhavock13

The normal modeller thinking is to say "individual parts" but it depends on what you are painting. I always paint guns on the sprue, because I have to put chevrons on, but the rest of the mini gets painted once it's glued together. Really up to you. If you can assemble a model really cleanly, then paint first, but if like me, you prefer to wash the mini once it's glued together because you get glue everywhere haha, then paint afterwards.

  • @Darthhavock13 Well i personally paint my parts before glue wing because you have less chance putting paint over there other parts of the warhammer so once you have all your parts painted you simply glue em together i find it easier that way.

  • @Darthhavock13 Its a personal choice, i normally build the legs, torso and head and paint it, but paint the arms and weapons seperately. The only issue with this is that when you glue the arms on its best to remove the paint from the surfaces that will be glued together

  • i like the first method. i cant wait to get some chaos space marines this week

  • HEEY look at 4:40! Its cruscian

  • too much paint man!!

  • If there are any Chaos players here I need a vote. I've got my army, my book, but I havent got my paint, but I cant decide between painting Black Legion or Word Bearers and so I leave my fate in the hands of youtube strangers.

  • @CaptCow black legion is awesome for chaos marines and world eaters 4 khorne berserkers

  • Great work, cant wait till I paint my first lizardmen.

  • thnx Dave this really help and you are right Chaos Space Marines is ridicullisly Awsome !! :)

  • 5:02 a quick flash of a diffrent model

  • very cool guys always loved imperial guard but dont play the table top , I have often thought starting to only collect but not much of a model painter myself . Got an imperial guard paining vids?

  • can someone name a place where u can get these paintbrushes

  • DAMN they look WICKED, and now i have an ide of to paint my (when i buy them :S)

  • i wanna see everyones whole army! especially dave's because im building a chaos space marine army myself

  • sorry guys i love your vids but this is not a tutorial... the figs look horrible

  • this is wierd

  • For the armor trim, i always like to go brazen brass first and then drybrush shining gold, highlight with burnished gold.

  • WATER DOWN YOUR PAINTS if you dont you might get bumbs and it streaks and it wont look as nice and you spend alot of money on theses so i dont think you want a bumpy streaky mini WATER DOWN YOUR PAINTS

  • water them down too much and you get zero brush control though

  • @TheShroomsonFire i learnt that the hard way.......

  • @TheShroomsonFire holy crap, i remeber posting that like a year ago on my aold account, wow its been a while since i watched this...

  • @TheShroomsonFire ..if you use a flow improver instead of water, you still get great coverage and a thinned paint that doesn't cover the details, which is the problem with paints right out of the pot. I picked up a small bottle for $13, you use 1 part improver to 20 parts water. then just add a little drop onto the paint on your mixing surface and voila, good to go.

  • @TheShroomsonFire What you mean by water down your paints like mix it a little with water (O_o) sorry to ask to question its probably stupid but im french and im quite new at this.

  • @Pcmanx19 You basically water down the paints, 50% water, 50% paint, with this method you will need to give it 2-3 coats but gives a much better finish. You dont get any stroke marks, bubbles or any other problems. Its more time consuming but if its an expensive model deffinitely worth the extra time

  • @luckycharms1978 What i ment was how do you do that like do you first dip your brush in water then paint or is it like u put water in the paint container it self...?

  • @Pcmanx19 Normally its best to have a clean container of water, your paint and a mixing tray. What you do is dip your brush into your paint and then transfer that paint from the brush to the mixing tray, do this as many times as necessary until you have enough paint. So say you dipped 3 brush fulls of paint, you would do the same with the water container, dip your brush and mix the water on the brush with the paint on your mixing tray. I'll explain in more detail if needed. hope it helps

  • @luckycharms1978 Thank you bud much appreciated i believe i kinda do understand a little but not really im in between now XD but i think i do understand so like 1st: I take my brush dip it in paint then paint of the mixing tray then 2nd: then i would clean my brush then dip my brush into water then you know like rub my brush on the paint thats on the mixing tray? and do i have to wait for the paint that i put on the mixing tray to dry before mixing my brush wiih the paint that has water on it?

  • @TheShroomsonFire Watering down shining gold is NOT a good idea, instead to make it look great, shining gold with a black ink wash and roll a cotton wool bud over the wash so the big areas stay gold but dimmed and the ink accumulates around the bolts and such.

Yes it's good to water down your paints but with shining gold I find it infuriating how many layers you need.

  • i dont often ask this but im wondering if some people could check out my models on my vidz and tell me what they think? plz thnx

  • dude try watering down your paints a bit you get a smoother finish

  • Dry painting is the best method! im using dry panting my models :P

  • um instead of dry brushing with codex grey would mithril silver look the same

  • no it would be shiny

  • if you buy the csm pack does the champion have a power fist????

  • you can equip him with many weapons including a power fist ;)

  • very kick ass legionnaires you got.

  • keep it simple an realy ,,, i like :)

oh an it looks good for table top, this is the way i did most of my black legion , ps luv rapingwitchhunters mwaaaaaaaa

  • i love the chaos marines just finished painting them way better than the tyranids which i wasted a lot of money on....

  • wtf i learned to paint yesterday an my figures look way better than that !

  • Think you need a little more painting time, men...

  • dude... not good

  • ehh not good... I'm a warhammer noob i and I can do a lot better...

  • Jesus fooking crist! Even I can do better than that...I mean look at your champion...

  • love the video but it could have done with some more lighting, but i appreciate it is difficult to film something black

  • dfjgiasgfuiasdufgiusdfi waaaaaghgbghcvbc hi dave you rock and mike and seeb

  • You would be better off painting the skulls light brown then painting them kommando khaki then go over most areas with bleached bone then highlight with white.

  • @kiamarion With skulls i do with bleached bone then dry brush with graveyard earth or khaki to give a dirty look, i then dry brush (very slightly) the eye sockets with chaos black to kinda shade it in

  • This help alot i have never known how to paint the packs properly. loads of help thnx.

  • I could be wrong, but it looks like you're using a little too much paint, also resting your painting arm on your leg to keep it steady can help with a steady hand... Otherwise great video, nice music too, and great voice for youtube! thumbs up - p.s. BLACK LEGION RULE!

  • You do a real good job. I am no better then you :)

  • 1 through 10 i give u guys a 1,000 that was the video i was looking for to paint my guys thank u guys so much MINIWARGAMING ROCKS!!!!!!!!! death to the false emporer!!! muhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • do a tutorial on tzeentch

  • Why don't you ever water down your paints? It makes the model look really thick and clunky.

  • i like just looking at other people painting their armies because i cant paint to save my life lol

  • Comment removed

  • dave its called mithril silver not meethrel silver

  • Comment removed

  • i like with the chaos is that you dont have to have a stedy hand with dry brush and then have it not be perfect i like to put a couple boluts and smear the paint to make it look used

  • Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. This is their hobby, and how to use their time. They ENJOY it because it's fun to them. As for you, you enjoy playing video games so use your time. And why were you even watching this if you were just gonna trash it.

  • lol ur no different...

  • u dont know me

  • If you dont like "this shit" they why dont you go play halo instead of looking at warhammer videos?

  • yeah, you tell him dude

  • at least we dont get weird eyes and freak out of playing to much!

    Get a life!

  • when will next vid be out?

  • I suck at playing AND painting lol, but I do highly enjoy the modeling part of it

  • i like painting more then playing

  • are thes paints oil based or water based??

  • water

  • i suck at painting

  • as do I

  • i like #2

  • hes not t good still like it tho

i think hes probs a wicked gamer

  • lol

  • sado

  • Excellent skill with the painting keep the vids coming.

  • im going to buy chaos space marines army set 2007 so this was good tip thx :)

  • u can use tooth pick for the shoulder

  • i paint everything with toothpicks because i'm cheap! ]8)

  • Well youve made me want chaos space marines and now i do goo ebay bought me a battleforce for 38 bucks :D

  • now i want to get some chaos marines to paint!

  • wow, compared to my Chaos Soul Drinkers i just made, mines look like shit!

  • did you have to have the link all the way through

  • wow i dont intend to offend but the paintings not very good its ok but i just think its a bit shabby.

  • What music is this ?

  • the music sounds like you are trying to dismantle a bomb and if u cut the wrong wire...ur dead

  • the eavy metal team are so good at painting one of them showed me how to highlight he was cool

  • When are you gonna make a Episode 2 Dave? :(

  • Eh in my opinion I do not recommend Mithril Silver. It makes metal look really cheap to me. On the other hand boltgun metal and Chainmail are my favorites and make an extreme battle torn look if dry brushed on Chaosblack primed models.

  • I agree, Mithril Silver fits mostly to... well Dwarf jewelery, and if you mix up some Chainmail and Boltgun Metal you get a great color!

  • for skulls there are 2 different ways to paint

Deneb stone with develan mud wash

Ors graveyard earth and drybrush bleached bone over it.

  • very easy

  • cool

i just base the skulls with black and then I just use skull white

  • Anyone know how too make a acid battle damage. (Is it like creating bolter damage) is it similar?

  • how do you do an ink wash? do you just paint it on or what?

  • just wash over the top m8

  • ok i suck at painting if you go to a game workshop will they assabile and paint the mintures for u if u pay them

  • I think so, you have to pay extra of course

  • its always more fun if u paint and assemble your army yourself...go to the nearest games workshop and ask them some pointers on how to paint

  • lol i know half the fun of minis are painting them.

  • add water to that paint, it looks like you are spreading jelly on some delicious toast!

  • are space marines worn and torn? im a little comfused on what armies look like. i am brand new to warhammer40k so someone help me out please!

  • is it easier to paint the marines' bodies first then add on the arms if their holding a bollter?

my friend said its better like that

  • have any of you who are correcting him ever been to the site? they're all quite good.

this is a video for BEGINNERS to get them started. its not expected to be perfect.

  • yeah we made a lot of mistakes but he is talking to us while hes painting :| AND filming. so you gotta give him credit.

but yeah thats the way i do myn (:

    I HATE DOING THE EYES.

i have to go over them like 3 times sum times lol grrr

    Peace out ^___^

  • dude thin your paint. your advice is poor.

  • i dont know why everyone has given thumbs down 2 this comment I've been painting for a while and find that multiple watered down coats givs you a much richer finish... I mean Dave has even addmited he's not that good at painting

  • good advice... now time for me to give you some advice lol.

this is minor, but, if you grip your brush like you would grip a pencil (that is, close to the brush tip) you will find you have much better control, and get less paint where you don't want it!!!

hope it helps, and happy wargaming even if you do play "Black legion" (hardcore Iron Warrior player ftw)

  • i just start painting and i dont have good paint so in need som tips and triks

  • go get the paints from games workshop or games world or who eva sells them were u at, 5 bucks each, get a mix of foundation paints and the other paints u see here(foundation paints r more soling)

  • Thin, for the gods sake, thin the paints!

You'll have much more control about where it goes and avoid many mistakes.

Alos, two thin layers of paint look much brighter than on thick.

But cool vid, very informative an easy to understand. And the calm music in the background as a perrfect match.

  • The drybrushing tip was awsome, really helps with the highlights on your miniature. Im thinking of making a video och myself and upload it^^

  • Well, since drybrushing looks so uneven, I'd go with Boltgun Metal + Black Ink/Badab Black Wash instead, makes a better look IMO.

  • lol I love how he said in the end, "Ridiculously AWESOME!"

  • HOW?????

  • ha, now ive swiched to paint method 2, its just faster is all, and why did you dry brush brazen brass on the one guy in part 1?

  • and REDICULASLY AWESOME.

  • skulls, skulls, ummmm and some more skulls

Loved the amount of areas you mentioned that they put skulls on.

  • I must say, because I own chaos that this is very helpful. Thanks and keep up the cool vids.

  • ye and pigs can fly..

  • and tau figths for the "greater bad"
