this is not the version from the cote d'azur with Duke. while this is golden, the cote d'azur version is my favorite. its the one i imitate when noone is listening.
@louie1a I know the only reason its up is to show that there were more concerts with Duke...plus this is something that was never released. You get me?
I love this video. If anyone has the version of Ella (and Duke Ellington) singing Mac the Knife at the Cote d'Azur, I would so love to see it. Or, is that what this is? Does anyone know?
TreblePop ..I know...This is from 1967 in Oakland California. The version you speak of is from 1966 and out on CD in a box set. Unlike the original album ..this has several nights from the performances with Duke. I can't post that here it would totally be banned for it's copyrighted.
I was thinking the same thing!! That version on the Cote d'Azur album to me is SO GREAT!!!! It would be wonderful to see a video of it. I'm sure it exists somewhere in the world! Although this is a good one, and similar, it's not the same recorded version.
Frank Sinatra stated it best during an interview. The question asked of him was "Who do you think the Greatest Singer of all time is... Frank classically replied..." You mean besides ELLA?" HA HA... ENOUGH SAID! :-) RIP Musical Goddess
"Alma, not now..." That's what my dad would say to my mother when he listened to Ella. I didn't understand. I'd even roll my eyes when he'd pulled out Ella, Count Basie, or the Mills Bros.... Little did I know--she's fabulous. You're right, it doesn't get much better than this.
Plays twice ? Who would complain! =D

@TreblePop YEAH !!! I know it
This version is amazing !!
actually, i search it ... and don't found
She sings like Louis Armstrong, so funny
"for you people here, here at the jazz festival, we gonna sing, we gonna swing, we gonna have one more chorus
pibaboubidabidoubidoudidiiiii"
when you think the song is finished, she calls this orchestra "one, just one more"
WOAAAA :-)

I have always loved E.F's voice, but each time I hear, whether she sings with Satchmo or whatever, she sounds a little bit better. Love you Ella!

The Queen and the Duke, and his loyal band... don't get much better. I would have played it twice anyway.
