I think the song is about Her drowning her daughter because her daughter was either raped or willfully had sex. So PJ thought her daughter was impure after her sexual encounter and drowned her...

the song is based on the true story of an evangelical mother who reads her teenage daughter's diary and finds out the daughter is pregnant (willful sex). So the mother does the christian thing do i guess, which is to drown the daughter.

I have been wholly addicted to her music lately.

I, out of a complete whim, found White Chalk on Amazon, previewed it, liked what I heard, bought it. I loved it. Now I'm deciding which album to get next. :P Each one is so entirely different, but they're all incredibly well written.

Take this song, for instance. This version has been reduced to its most minimal form, yet it's still amazing to listen to. It's because the core of the songwriting is so good, as well as her voice.

* May be, as a beginning : "Rid of me" 1993. 14 titles, 10 masterpieces :

"Rid of Me", "Missed", "Legs", "Rub 'til It Bleeds", "Yuri-G", "Man-Size", "Dry", "Me-Jane"

"Snake", "Ecstasy".

* And the much underrated "Is this desire ?" (1998), her darker album. One of my favourites. Great tunes :

Angelene, My beautiful Leah, A perfect day, Elise, Catherine, The garden, The river.

Anyway, just enjoy PJ's numerous talents !

In fact, as I was previewing her albums, "Is This Desire?" sounded like the most appealing. I'm sort of a nut-case in that I research an album in its entirety before actually buying it. =P But, in fact, I made up my mind just ordered that very album off of Amazon.
