I would highly recommend an IMA MKIV and I don't believe you'd need to register it either. In most states the rules for a gun this old are the same as a muzzle loader.
In regards to the wood... Underneath all the grease and grime, does the wood appear to have some sort of a higher grade? ie somewhat tiger striped or marbled?
Great Vid! Made me sad though... was wanting to do the same thing when I get my MkIV and Snider in a week or so. Here I was looking foward to having the second unboxing vid of a martini-henry on youtube. Well I'll still have the first for a Snider! Beautiful rifles. Don't know if I will have the courage to get the untouched ones
@cpcw06 I can't wait to see the snider, please do upload it. Everyone of these rifles is like a time capsul, there is a difference between my MK II and the MK IV, so you need to upload vids of both! I expected the mk iv to be in better condition and its not. Your MK IV may be in better or worse shape than the one I got!

@cibmog
The wood appears to be just standard grade. The fore stock of the MK II does seem to have some sort of striped pattern on it though.

The use of these rifles were stopped in the 1880's as they were replaced by the first series of Lee Enfield bolt action rifles.
