I liked 5 but it was not my favorite, the story felt generic, 4 warriors out to save the world.

@codemasterda actually that was the beauty of the original rpgs like dragon warrior 1 (dragon quest in japan) and final fantasy 1 dw1 = 1 warrior going through a quest to save the princess from a dragon and earn her hand in marriage and fame, you beat the dragon and suddenly whoa game just started and gets much more complex. FF1 = substitute dragon for Ex-Best knight in the realm shoter start but an even more complex story with a time spiral. they used cliches to deliver a more deep story XD

@FlammedesWinters If you own a GBA or DS, I recommend buying a copy of FFV Advance and FFVI Advance (consider that one an advertisement) If you don't own either hand-helds, then a rom will do just fine.

On another note, I highly recommend owning a copy of FF1-6 if you have only experienced FF7 - 12. Remember: the earlier games, while not as flashy and visually captivating as its successors, still helped define the RPG genre that we all experience today.

Gilgamesh takes on a different appearances depending on the world he's in, does he not?

And to answer another question, if the Final Fantasy worlds DO happen to take place in a certain chronological order, then V's must be close to last, as that is the world in which Gilgamesh dies. All of his other appearances could very well have taken place beforehand.

Aside from direct sequels and prequels, there is NO chronological order to the series. Each of them take place in different dimensions. The reason Gilgamesh is able to travel to the different FF's is because of the Interdimensional Rift from FFV. And it's uncertain to determine if he died at the end of FFV or not, for all we know all of his travels and experiences could've taken place before his sacrifice in the battle with Necrophobia, meaning he died, or after the battle, somehow surviving.
