lol so you think that to be sad you have to physically look sad? A lot of the orcas that die in captivity die of brain haemorrages caused by repeated, purposeful collision with the walls, due to depression, but hey, the don't look sad so they must enjoy it X)
@tdsmeg4 It's their facial structure that gives them that smiley look. An orca can be slaughtered and still have that grin. Orcas and other cteceans do nat have the facial muscles that allow them to smile or frown. If they did, we would obviously be seeing frowns in tanks
If people did not bring sick animals into captivity they would die. If we release animals back into the wild that have had human contact they are two times more likley to be killed.
For a person who has never had the pleasure of seeing marine animals, sea world offers the oppertunity to experience what would other wise be impossible. The facilities housing these animals is state of the art and appropriate for their needs. Im against wild captures but for the animals who have been in captivity for many years i dont think it would be safe to release them back.
That is one up-side to having captive individuals but it still doesn't seems right to me. I don't think that you can compare seeing an orca in the open ocean to seeing one in a chlorine tank. Obviously you can't release captives and most in captivity are bred within tanks which makes it impossible for them to ever be released. Thank you for for posting an intelligently proposed point, it really helps one to see the other side of the fence without thrown accusations and false statements.
in some zoos and marine parks, there are creatures that can be viewed and studied for the good of man. a lot of them might otherwise be extinct if zoos did not breed them. im against mistreating animals but like the peta people would release monkeys in the wild and they wouldnt be safe because they wouldnt know how to survive. dont take this animal stuff too far......
I believe the argument of "never seeing marine mammals" is a selfish, self-centered one.
Why should we forcefully take animals from the wild, or breed them in an unnatural environment for the sake of looking at them? If someone can't see a wild creature, we should not impose suffering on another creature to satisfy our wants. The world does not revolve around us.
It's not for the sake of 'seeing them' It is to make others aware about them. To protect the ones in the wild. Before people thought of killer whales as 'cold blooded killers', Which they aren't. Also, having them makes scientists able to do tests, and learn more about them. I am for sea world, They keep them healthy, they know they're content, and they are not forced to do a behavior.
For the most part, it is for people to see them. Children do not go to Sea World to become "aware", or even to appreciate these magnificent creatures. In fact, the majority of people who go to Sea World merely learn that it is ok to forcefully confine wild animals and exploit for entertainment. Yes, that is what it is. Exploitation.
These animals deserve better than this. They were not made to be put on show to satisfy our curiosities.
If everyone can see dolphins in the sea like i have, you will see the true nature. I agree that dolphins and whale shouldn't be in captivity but at least some animals there are treated well, but when you see them in there natural habitat they seem more active and more playfull, But some dolphins and whales at seaworld are becoming lazy as they don't have to work for there food. But i wish they where free and that we should only see dolphines and whales at seaworld.
I'm not particularly an animal nut but animal-based entertainment like Seaworld is riduclous. And far too over the top. If anyone's ever been (I had the misfortune), it's just ridiculous.
i dont think whales should b n captivity.but i kno that @ least the ones n seworld r treated well.usually most of them r happy.i kno this from personal observing(mostly not during shows)& research.i kno sum of the trainers.i work ther & my favorite thing to do is study the whales ther.whales should not b put n captivity but mite as well make the ones that cant b freed hav as good a life as possible.but nothin is good compard to the freedom of the ocean
I invite you to watch my anti-captivity videos.. They give you a look into the dark parts of the marine park industry that aquarium owner's would rather you didn't know about.
shamu and most of whales in captivity die of depression. shamu was ripped away from her mother in a brutal capture.whales in captivityhave to swim in tiny circles and do tricks to get exercise. the pools at seaworld(that prob dont have plants n rocks)might look huge2 u but to a whale compared to its natrual home, an ocean, its veRyy SMalll.
Where did you get this photage?

I have had the utmost pleasure of seeing (and swimming) with wild dolphins, and I can tell you that nothing compares to that. Nothing.
I have also been to Sea World QLD, and looking back, I know understand the importance of freedom, and respecting wild animals.

this is a great video. orcas dont belong in captivity!
olle8804 3 years ago
ah. i get your point on why u commented my seaworld video... =/
the orcas obviously don't have a problem performing. they do it well and seem to be happy but you are right. they belong in the wild.
so i do totally agree with you, but it is nice to be able to go and watch them since most of us don't travel on the ocean looking for them very often.
