I believe Haruhi Suzumiya was the only anime that gave them permission to use their trademark songs and name within the show. If Code Geass, for example, had also given them permission to do so, Lelouch and Code Geass would not be filtered out.

@RainbowAnimeCupcake Copyright issues. They can't freely reference an anime that is made by another company. This kind of explains why they can freely reference Haruhi, but not shows like Code Geass. When they are referenced, it's usually bleeped out to protect the company from a copyright infringement lawsuit. The same thing happens in Hayate no Gotoku as well.

But through japanese copyright laws, parody and spoof is a-ok. so long as it does not use distinctive names and features exactly to the original. e.g. the manager not using the geass symbol but a different 1 entirely. the geass animation is just a common visual effect and hence allowed to use it.
