  • Sleep deprivation alone is grounds to abandon daylight saving time

  • I though this was a little patronising at first but it turns out that a lot of people are ignorant of this. :|

  • that was around 2:47

  • did anyone notice minecraft on the computer

  • lmao yo dawg I heard you liked time zones

  • I want more sunlight after work so I can do outdoor stuff after work. I hate leaving work when it's dark. I love daylight savings time.

  • @patcoston Totally agree!!

  • oooooooh coooool

  • Black carbon on the move?

    *googles*

    Oh, that's actually pretty interesting.

  • I find it easier to wake up when the sun comes up earlier, but I doubt it will matter when I get out of school.

  • yeah we would laugh in your face

  • MINECRAFT!!

  • Yo dawg, I heard you like DST!! You lousy Arizonians

  • DST is fucking stupid. I didn't even get what this uploader was saying about saving energy and what not... The main point is... if you feel it's too dark when you get up for work or school then make the work/school time an hour earlier. Change the TIME you do a particular task ... don't change the clocks. It's as simple as that. but humans are dumb and can't figure out that they can switch work time an hour earlier or later during the year.

  • Well, our fucked-up russian president cancelled NOT the daylight saving time, but the standard time, so now in south ural, where I live, at 10am in winter it is as dark as it is at like 5am.

  • god, i really loved the video after i saw celsius along with that strange F

  • Your map at 0:10 is wrong. I am from one the countries that aren't yellow there and we DO have daylight saving time.

  • This is hilarious and informative. I think we can all agree that we should just end DST effective immediately. But, you forgot one minor detail. Where did George Hudson get his idea? Well, he heard Ben Franklin tell a joke about waking up in the summer and drawing the curtains, and saying the wasted daylight should be moved to when he can use it, and it took it seriously. Yes, DST is the original incarnation of Poe's Law.

  • 5:29...

    'DST-ception'

    "We CAN go deeper..."

  • Thanks for the clarification at the bottom at 2:20

  • lol no1 in america uses 2$ bills

  • @MISAEL602 ya me too....

  • 2:01 Louisiana...The most unihabitable place on the planet. With the exception of the USVI's

  • 0:14

I live in Argentina and here we do that... sometimes...

  • Protip: The "wan" in "Saskatchewan" is actually pronounced "win" as in "Saskatchewin." Source: I've lived here my entire life. :)

  • I think my mind just had a mental breakdown.

  • Wow, what a fucking mess.

  • I've argued against DST for years.

  • I love how you turned Sydney upside down when you were talking about the meeting.

  • Sometimes it seems I am one of the few people who likes DST.

I live in the Netherlands, and without DST we would have sunrise at 4:15am and sunset at 9:05pm in june. Like, crazy! Precious daylight wasted if you ask me. Now it is 5:15am - 10:05pm. Glorious long summer evenings. And quite a bit of light in the evening from march until september.

Also people whining about the change: ONE hour. Next to nothing. My 'bedtime' varies from 10pm to 2am. Much bigger difference...

  • 4:00 Sydney photo

i see what you did there....

  • i didnt know az didnt do daylight savings time. and ive lived here my whole life

  • As a guy from Arizona... This is all extremely accurate.

  • DST is a terrible, terrible idea. Living in Australia, DST is such an inconvenience that causes countless confusion. It is so not worth the trouble, I wish they would hurry up and abolish it.

  • I'm in Hawaii. It rains alot.

  • 5:05 Timeception

  • Time difference sucks (I have friends in the UK, I'm in Florida). -_-

  • PHX FTW!!

  • WOOH AZ FTW!!!

  • Game of Thrones references win...

  • Minecraft Reference 2:45

  • I dont care about DST, I spent my extra hour watching youtube vids like your

  • 5:08 = INCEPTION

  • My favorite american! You actually think about the viewers who are not americans. Thanks for using the metric system :)

  • @Sarah8220 He lives in the UK lol. He just grew up in america.

  • surly its a benefit to school children who have to walk to their school in the morning or to bus stops and would reduce injuries from this ?

  • @MAtTTHAND Total myth.

  • @CGPGrey It kinda works though. While it doesn't work enough for Ireland, having it bright out when kids are going to school in winter helps. You get more sunlight in the mornings once the clocks go back in winter - and we need more sunlight this close to the Arctic. I admit, it's not the reason we do it.

  • @CGPGrey

  • @CGPGrey ?

  • @CGPGrey I have a theory that because the north had no snow 1 global warming or 2 poles are shifting

  • @MAtTTHAND lol why would they get injured? lol its not that its totaly pitch black you can see in that light even tough it is small amout of it but its enough to see a corner of a house or the endge of a pathway! lol XD

  • @MAtTTHAND Yeah its a total myth....Children dont walk anymore.

  • @MAtTTHAND They still have to walk the same distance while traffic is the same no matter what, the only change is the position of the sun.

  • 5:48

    Anki FTW!

  • so the daylight savings are bullshit, and in our country it even makes it day shorter on winter. i dont get it, but i know one thing, goverment is stupid and still keeps doing this shit, witch just makes head hurt when u have to wake up earlyer.

  • @MultiTail It shouldn't make a day shorter in winter, since clocks go back then. 2am becomes 1am, giving you a whole hour extra!

  • 6:00 what's up with the 1 dollar coins?

  • @skaterman934 They are coins.. That are worth $1?

  • @skaterman934 They exist. Quarter is 24.26x1.75mm. Dollar coin is 26.50x2.00mm. Since they are virtually the SAME SIZE, everyone hates them and machines probably won't recognise them. If you see a "golden quarter" it's one of those pescy dollar coins again. Put it with your $2 notes.

  • Hola! from Arizona!

  • Queensland, not Queenslnd... just saying.

  • Death to daylight savings

  • Can we just go to global time already?

  • @CGPGrey haha Your right about the Navajo Reservation. And to be honest your the first person I know of to point that out about our reservation. The little hopi part seperated from the main area is Tuba City, AZ, and the Small part of Navajo rez in Hopi is Jedito. haha Thanks for mentioning us.

  • really funny\

  • How do you know this...... CRUD IT"S NASA GRAB THE KIDS RUN ( NERD )

  • okkk so thats why, for example, that japan is supposed to be 14 hours ahead of america, but right now its only 13? i thought all countries participated till now XD

  • United States

    United Kingdom

    ɐıןɐɹʇsnɐ

  • @iRaHaKaZ To us, YOU'RE the ones who are upside down.

  • abolish daylight saving time!!

  • @2:45

Forever alone playing Minecraft? That is very mean and inconsiderate of you...

Well. You should know the truth can be mean. :'(

  • ARIZONACEPTION

  • @Sn0wLeppard TIMEZONE-CEPTION!

  • Lives saved may also come into the calculation. After work people are more likely to run people over when driving, due to tiredness/wanting to get home quick, etc. If it is dark during this time then the probability increases.

Changing how light it is at high traffic times could potentially save lives. Having the academic day and work day start and end at different times could also decrease fatalities of this nature. However, it is difficult to test the effectiveness of such changes.

  • Lol the part where you said "most of oz does DST, exept for bla bla and bla(sorry, I dont like geography) and then you proceed to stripe off more than half of australia =) Still most of the people are using DST but still, not really most of oz left after you get rid of half =D

  • 1:35, first thing I thought.....Are you my mummy???

  • MINECRAFT FTW

  • Good attempt at "Saskatchewan."

  • 1:51 could there be anymore Macs

  • @CharlesBloodInit Yes, cuz some of them are Acer or other

  • forever alone playing minecraft

  • free time = MINECRAFT (or any other good games)

  • your voice is a little low

  • 1:50

Fourth row from the bottom, second from the left.

Macs are too mainstream. Acer FTW.

  • I just realised, you can move the subtitles around the video.

  • another cryzy thing is how counties can change the borders of there time zones, while this has some value(not having half of a city in one time zone and half in the other) but is allso insane, as best exeplified by china. chana is all on the same time zone even thow it is about the width of the US, which meens that on ither end of the country is 3 hours out of sinc withthe oficial time(think seting new york on pasific time).

  • Subitles in three languages!?

  • arazonaseption

  • couldn't have picked a prettier picture of phoenix? :p

  • would u rather get rid of day light saving time or pennies

  • 5:49 links on the apps!!!

  • I hope they don't get rid of DST. Seasonal Affective Disorder is bad enough during the winter, it would be even worse if it happened all the time.

  • Please make a video about the international dateline!

  • ah, thank you, I was wondering how much degrees Celsius is 107 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit..

    42 and 50, wow.. pretty hot :/

  • buuuut wait... when u make 'dates' can u hold on to the londen time...?....

  • we don't turn off our AC in the summer when we go to sleep. Our AC is on 24/7, daylight or not. Cuz if we turned it off at night, we'd be waking up in cold sweats all the time. (it is really uncomfortable and annoying)

  • I'm sold on bringing down DST now

  • i live in hawaii. beautiful everyday of the year? HAA!!

  • silly youtube suggestions..

  • How about a referendum in every country to pick what time it is when

For instance: I like having more light in the summer, but I want that in the winter too, because it's way too dark after school in the winter here. So summer hour but for the entire year = no changing clocks and enough light all year round.

  • In Colorado's summer, the sun starts rising at 5am and doesn't set til 9 or 10 at night. If it weren't for DST the sun would start rising at 4am. Weird

  • Cut out daylight savings and time zones are put on the longitude lines. SOLUTION

  • Upside down Sydney Opera House. I get it.

  • @Nerdlinger24 why is it upside down ?

  • @Nerdlinger24 -- I don't (please explain, unless the idea is that Sidney is at the other sied of the planet).

  • @boomtao Yeah, that's why. It's a joke that because Australia's in the Southern Hemisphere, everything's upside down.

  • I live in Arizona so i dont have dst anymore and its fucking weird getting used to

  • "has a higher than normal spike in bolth"

  • Minecraft FTW!

  • Anyone else pause to read the ipad? I want to know more of this black carbon and its move =(

  • Don't forget Newfoundland in Canada. They change the clocks by only half an hour.

  • LOL. I live in Phoenix and I can tell you that summer is just as bad as he makes it seem. ;)

  • THANK YOU for thinking that farenheit and feet are uncivilised. I mean it.

  • Parts of Indiana do not follow savings time either.

  • in canada saskatchewan doesent do daylight savings time like everywhere else in north america

  • America, Y U NO METRIC?

  • Comment removed

  • Subscribed

  • I love daylight savings time, but I live in Canada and I like to take advantage of the 3 months with sunshine XD

  • i know bout day light saveings from when i was 5 in AZ only US state not to have it

  • Western Australia does do daylight savings..

  • @pokemonfan1richo That would be incorrect. Western Australia did have it for a few years to test it out, and then there was a state referendum roughly 2 years ago to decide if we should keep it or not. "No" won 55% to "Yes" 45%. So therefore we no longer have daylight savings time.

  • @TheMatto128 You just made me happy.

  • i loved it :))

  • Don't forget that Queensland, Australia is just like 'LOL, your daylight savings is SO not us screw it' and it doesn't happen.

  • @Ookami1123 Oh, no wait nevermind.

  • Thank you so much for putting metric temperatures on as well. :) We don't do daylight savings time here in Saskatchewan. But I don't think we really need it. I mean, the sun's only out for the workday in the winter anyways, and in the summer the sun's up from like 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. So yeah.

  • @otakubabe555 A. Daylight savings has nothing to do with winter. Your first point is irrelevant.

    B. Its a very small % of the population that is awake for 5am (most just getting off work from the night shift) yet the vast majority of people are awake for 9pm.

Only a very small amount of people would enjoy early sunlight, and many many people would enjoy sunlight when its late. It makes sense to reschedule society to allow for more people to enjoy the day late in the day.

  • As long as the UK still does it, I'm not really bothered, but I need that extra hour of sleep in Winter D;

  • Personally I think we should abandon time zones (DST or not) all together

Does it really matter if your clock shows 12am or 12pm when you wake up?

  • @TheStrayCross Abandoning time zones just makes it more confusing. How about abandoning only DST?

  • @RobloxVentures How would abandoning time zones make it more confusing? Oh it's 24:00 here what's the time in NY? 24:00 and in Tokyo? 24:00 and in Berlin? ...

  • @TheStrayCross Abandoning timezones would be confusing because people would have to get used to new times and if you want to make a meeting somewhere else, you don't know whether it is nighttime or daytime over there by looking at their timezone, becuase it's all the same.

  • These videos are great but more so because of how riddled with memes they are!

  • I've always hated daylight savings. They make me late. One time, they made me an hour late for a date and she dumped me!

  • Why don't we just one a single hour for the whole world. We all follow the hour on the meridian of Greenwich. Also we use military hours. 22 hours is 22 hours in the whole world. It makes no sense to make all this time changes.

  • You should make a video of the benefits of the metric system vs imperial.

  • @ObsoleteSlur Metric wins on measuring distance and fluids.

Imperial wins on measuring temperature (if it had logical start and stop points [eg: 0 degrees is freezing, 100 is boiling])

    .

    Simple as that.

  • @Jex134 Sorry--I meant U.S. Customary, not imperial. Celsius is a good idea is logical, but the Fahrenheit scale is idiocy-- 32 is freezing and 212 is boiling.

  • @ObsoleteSlur Exactly my point---it should have a logical scale that people can easily relate to---not an arbitrary starting point. It is more accurate than metric, but because of its arbitrary starting point, its often hard to relate to how that weather feels, unless you've been using Fahrenheit your entire life.

  • @Jex134 I learned in science the reason the scale is the way it is. something about water and salt. I have been using Fahrenheit my entire life, that I can remember. The US is a mess....

  • @ObsoleteSlur "The US is a mess...." I grew up in the mid-west, and keep up on current events. We both know how fubar the U.S really is.

    .

I'm just glad I got off that sinking ship before I had to start swimming to shore with everyone else.

    .

Best of luck to you and your loved ones mate :S

  • @ObsoleteSlur Living in England, I use both Metric and Imperial whenever I see fit without complaint :D

  • @ObsoleteSlur Aren't the benefits obvious?

  • @ObsoleteSlur and all those obscure as fuck measurements

  • @ObsoleteSlur Well, Metric system is based on 10s, is used by most of the world, and is the de facto science and math "measurement", so it's basically the same as DST: No one really wants to go through the hassle of FORGETTING it.

  • @PAMuffinMan True that. But it is a lot easier to teach and then we wouldn't need conversions

  • @ObsoleteSlur

Metric system would be heaps better if it was base 12.

  • @billybobjoe198 Not sure if sarcasm or...

  • 5:30 INCEPTION!

  • just do a video on history of Minecraft already.

  • I live in Saskatchewan Canada and we don't change our clocks. ;)

  • @chrisharden13 Me toooo! It's awesome...except for when I try to figure out what time it is other places.

  • In Puerto Rico they save more energy because the use of air-conditioning is not excesive because of Ocean Air fans(wich are sh**y). And the ones actually wasting energy are the jars(people from new jersey who are only there for the hotels). I subbed:)

  • Daylight Saving Time, I hate it. If you ever programmed something related to a timezones and daylight saving, you will know what a nightmare it is. Timezones alone are great confusion, there are for example countries who add or subtract 1h from GMT (e.g. +2:00UTC -2:00UTC), but there also are countries like Iran(UTC+03:30), Nepal(UTC+05:45). Honestly, we should outlaw that daylight saving thing.

  • This video confuses me since I always though it was the opposite. That we changed the clocks so that as the Fall and winter kicks in and the days get shorter, you would get more productive sunlight, as the sun would rise earlier. Saskatchewan got rid of it since it needlessly made farming more complicated. The rest of us slowly getting rid of it by pushing it by 2 weeks every year because the impact in modern times doesn't justify it's existence. You likely have better sources.

  • I am thankful for more daylight time in summer.

  • I love this channel so much just found it and it really reminds me of vsauce which is great.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol I'm from Arizona and i always wondered about daylight savings time.... and Laugh at all those who think 80 degrees Fahrenheit is hot

  • @KiteFlyingGuy And I laugh at those who think it's cold

  • 2:45

    Forever Alone guy playing Minecraft?

  • Aparte from wasting or saving money, and more time outside, does the DST has an enviromental impact?

  • @camelstrike Of course not! (unless referring to global warming of which there is no correct answer (yet?)) daylight savings time is just a change in clock as he said it has no effect on anything except people. Also a couple corrections "does the DST *have* an ..." & "*Apart* from wasting...".

  • i like that there is a minecraft video in almost every video

  • I heard it was something to with Scottish farmers
