Thanks for the comment--you are right, of course--if this was a regular performance by any other person. However, she is the bride! With all of the costume changes of a modern Okinawan wedding these days, it is as appropriate as can be allowed! It's most unusual for a bride to dance at her own wedding, but she is a one-of-a-kind gal! She has her yuushuusho in Ryukyu Buyo, too, so she is well aware of the proper costume, believe me! But I appreciate the comment for any future viewers.
Thank you very much for your response I am part of a Ryukyu dance troupe. I was hust wondering because in mainland Japan sometimes they do all kinds of things that are not traditional Okinawan customs. I must admit the bride looks beautiful. Was this done in Okinawa?
That's neat that you are part of a dance troupe! I wonder if local? To answer your question, yes, this was in Okinawa. She married a mainland Japanese person and so this was also her way to share her beloved Okinawan art to her new in-laws and friends. This was held at the very well-known NBC hall (not the US media outlet!) in Okinawa-shi.
Thank you! I am from Oahu, Hawaii where Okinawan arts have flourished and the Uchinanchu community are proud of it. The ukwanshin group is coming to Okinawa for a performance in "Children of Loo Choo" in Uruma City.
This is strange. She's wearing a Japanese style kimono with a Okinawan Uchikaki bingata. Not the right costuming.
