Janice Nicholls had a brief flirtation with fame, including a record called Oi'll Give It Foive. What's interesting here is that "Bill Butler" grew up to be Billy Butler, and became a radio and TV presenter, mostly in Liverpool, but with the occasional national show like Fun Factory (1980). He also became something of a trivia buff, rather like Danny Baker. I remember him on one show challenging viewers to set him questions. One asked about the Thompson Twins' name. He responded "Herge's...
I'll take you right upstairs into my attic this very minute and show you my 1964 "I LIKE IT" 45 record by Gerry & The Pacemakers. Yeeeah, I was all of fourteen when I bought it at 2 Guys From Harrison in Totowa, NJ and STILL ~~~~~ I LIKE IT.
Whoa, so that's how Billy looked like when he was young. I interviewed him a couple of weeks ago, while covering the Beatleweek festival 2008--in which for the first time an Indonesian band, named Genuine Pluck, was invited to take a role--and was endorsed by Billy to check out this clip. Thanks for posting this!
None of the singles featured made it into the charts but the group that got the highest score, The Paramounts, changed their name later to Procul Harum - now whatever happened to them?
Despite the high scores for their single here, the Paramounts didn't make it into the charts - until they changed their name to Procul Harum and the rest they say is history ...!
So much of this irreplaceable material is left. Not like the idiot on the BBC who wiped all the vintage Top of the Pop tapes leaving us with about five minutes worth. If he ever reads this he should be ashamed of himself you deleted history! Well done ITV for preserving so much!
@PEEDEE100 In actual fact, all the TYLS's were junked too apart from this show and 2 others (both 1966).
Interesting snapshot of how "faddy" the UK music scene was here - out of the 3 "discs" put to the panel, the 2 that got the thumbs-up were pointless facsimiles of songs every band in the country was playing in the clubs, and yet to my ears the track by The Aces sound by far and away the better track.
@PEEDEE100 ITV also trashed alot of their stuff when they evolved into Thames Television in 1968. But, ITV programmes have more of a chance of surviving.
I wrote a letter to Janice a few months ago and bless her she replied with an autograph, which was excellent as I had a schoolboy crush on her when she was on the "Thank Your Lucky Stars"...I have been happily married for 33 years, with three daughters...but still love Janice!!!

I think I'll give it Foive! (Janice Nicholls)
This became her catchphrase for a long while as she used it quite a lot.

@RetroCool73 agreed. The only decent record played in that selection was the Aces wait till tomorrow.
Should of been a hit.
