  • I have heard the Borodin quartet play this live with with Igor Oistrakh on 1st violin.

  • An interesting playing of this piece. I am grateful to you for posting it.

  • Thanks to Truecrypt for this. It never ceases to amaze me that some must find social commentary in everything. As I recall, the Nineteenth Century was not so great, unless one enjoyed the Pogroms. Let us accept the beauty of music for what it is; and this is very beautiful and beautifully played.

  • I'm just starting this now with my string quartet in secondary school and it is beautiful. This is my favourite mvt, Loving playing this.. something completely different after tackling the brahms clarinet quintet :)

  • I apologize, but I could not understand Mr or Ms smithsherman's comments as usual, because of my weak English, but I think s/he is saying this is exceptionally beautiful music rendered by a superb music-making group, to which I agree 100%.

    Thank you for this.

  • it's simply good music ...

  • In this movement Borodin reveals a World of ominously threatening circumstances resolute to impinge upon the passionate aims of our vulnerable selves.Optimism is fleeing for it's life, determined to evade the dark void.

After such a profusion of unbounded beautific optimism and hopefulness in all the movements of the 1st 2 quartets...it's not clear that it will or...can survive. He must have known the 20th century was coming!
