I am 14 years old, and I am proud to say that I was named after Brook Berringer. My name is Brook Weber, and I've been a Husker fan all of my life. Under my birth bed, my dad slid a cutout of Nebraska turf. I was born on Husker territory, down here in Dallas. I've gotten crap all of my life for having a 'girl name', but I don't care. All these Longhorns don't understand why I'm proud of my name, and that's just fine.
@ubercrombie5 NU was my second-fav team (behind Oklahoma State) when it was the Big 8 conference. Brook back then was like Tim Tebow was at Florida, except not the marquee player/recruit. He was a man of faith and of God.
I saw Brook play up in Stillwater in the fall of '95 when they visited Stillwater, OK, and played the Cowboys. He was a precision player, and precision QB. The entire NU team was this: Class.
You were named after a great individual. Be proud.
i had the honor of meetin brook at a game. He was very polite and shock my hand and talk to me for a while. I will never forget that. i got his autograph that day to and still ave it
This guy was tough as nails, I'll never forget him having to go to the hospital during halftime to get his lung drained, and then coming back, he is sorely missed
@PapioLV09 unfortunately every time I put a different song with it, it never saves. I'll try again though. The original song, fwiw, was "Time of your life" by Green Day until the music nazis took it away....
brook was a great guy and a damn good QB.. i met him years ago in omaha after i got with my frirst wife and he was just as nice as he could be.. and when he played even though we were an option team. when he was in and threw the ball he had great form. and was almost always on target. and if i remember right. the 49ers were the team that was looking the hardest at him. and yes i beleave had he not died he would have been a great NFL QB
It's to bad that some insensetive assholes try to make light of a tragic incident. If brook berringer were here today he would kick your ass you rundown piece of shit
hey rundown, have you even read the actual crash story? his plane wasnt even 20 feet off the ground when it malfunctioned...there was something wrong with it from takeoff...i guess thats probably why you sat in the bleachers in highschool or out in the parking lot and smoked weed with all your loser stoner friends while people like Brook were on the field becoming better rode models and citizens for todays society...i guess your name does show it all though..you probably are just that...run down
nobody said anything about him being the "next big thing" in the NFL, it was what they now call "upside" in the NFL. He had a potentially bright future and it was cut short by tragedy. That's the bottom line. End of story; end of comments.
brook was the best queterback that we had at nebraska. he could run and pass. when he died i was heartbroke. i meet him once at a game that we played against mizzou.
I still remember the utter shock of hearing of Berringer's death in a plane crash. I'm not even a Nebraska fan but every college football fan remembered him from the fall of 1994 when he took over for Tommie Frazier, who was suffering from blood clots.
While I don't think hed'd have done much in the NFL - see Crouch, Eric - he was a great college player who deserved better than what happened to him. A class act even when Frazier got the job back.
I have to respectfully disagree with the notion that he was no better than Crouch. He was a much better passer than what could be showcased in Nebraska's offense at the time.
Perhaps he was. But it's very difficult to see that kind of thing when you run the ball 75% of the time. I have no doubt he would have been drafted.
But who was the last Nebraska QB to become a decent starter in the NFL? Honest question because I don't know. Ferragamo is the first one that comes to my mind. I remember a lot of Hukser names at QB: Gill, McCant, Frost, Taylor, Frazier, Brook, and so on.
There aren't a lot of Nebraska QBs being drafted as a QB, that's what a lot of the excitement was centered around from husker fans. A Husker QB being drafted by the NFL as a QB was something for Nebraska fans to cheer for.
I know Tagge played some QB in the NFL, but he's from way back in the '70s and he did horribly. I'm sure Berringer would have been a much better NFL quarterback than Crouch, for what it's worth.
I still recall being woke up by my dad and his buddys screaming and cheering for Brook on the tv. I tell you those were the few days I was happy to be woke up early.
It's not too bad that he died in the accident. It's actually a great thing. The man believed in Jesus and is glorifying God everyday for eternity now, and is serving as an inspiration and tool to those who are lost and don't know Christ's love.
I lived in Lincoln when I was a kid, became a Husker fan for life. I had the privelege of seeing Brook play at Missouri in 94, when Tommy was out due to blood clots. Brook was awesome, they won 42-7, and of course won the national title that year. I drove 12 hours to Missouri to see that game, drove almost all night....was so worth it. God bless you Brook, you will never be forgotten.
I grew up watching Nebraska football and man that era with Tommy Frazier and Brook Berringer were truly awesome, to bad what happened had to happen, Brook would have made it in the NFL for sure!!
If any of you ever get the chance to read the book about him "One Final Pass: The Brook Berringer Story" do, it's worth it. He was a great team player and had a better arm than Tommie. The reason I wore #18 from 1997 on. He was a Class act.
omg!! idk wat to say to nexic..but it's people like brook berrigner is one of those players that make nebraska football honorable..and stuff!! lol..go big red!!
Nexic, you're truly a heartless ass if that's your opinion towards Berringer. He was a class act and all he wanted to do was be a part of a winner. He didn't complain when Tommie Frazier came back and started after his blood clot problems despite the fact that Berringer was doing well. He was a great person as much as he was a great player and I'm sure he's one person that many parents would like to see their sons turn out to be like when they grow up.
when Cory Lidle passed away last month, Brook was the first person i thought of, ten years, but still, thinking about that gives me a chill, brook was a class act
Great person from a great family. Made us all proud then and now.
