This is a fitting commemoration on any Independence Day. Sen. Byrd had his faults, but no one could deny him his patriotism or his love for the Constitution and the institution of the Senate. May he rest in peace.
I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds. -R. Byrd
My name is Robert sheets Byrd. I am a bone headed liberal and a man who helped build the KKK in it's popular years. I love putting on long sheets and playing like I am a roman senator listen to me I am a great orator! LET IT RESOUND FROM HILL TO HILL FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA!! (cough) I need a nap. zzzzzzzzzzz
What ever happened to the WE in We the people? Washington today is WE The Lobby Group's, For The Lobby Groups, By The Lobby Groups. Give back the WE to WE The People now
Which U.S. Senator said he joined because it "offered excitement" and because the Klan was an "effective force" in "promoting traditional American values."
Which U.S. Senator wrote the following, three years after he claims to have ended his ties with the KKK: "The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia" and "in every state in the Union."
Which U.S. Senator also wrote that he would never fight "with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
Which U.S. Senator later filibustered the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act -- supported by a majority of those "mean-spirited" Republicans -- for more than 14 hours.
Which U.S. Senator opposed the nominations of the Supreme Court's two black justices, liberal Thurgood Marshall and conservative Clarence Thomas.
Which U.S. Senator warned last year on national television: "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much."
I'll give you a hint. It wasn't Strom Thurmond or Trent Lott. But he says it was a "mistake" and, more importantly, he's a democRAT, so it's o.k.
I could not agree with you more. People are incapable of change, improvement or self-reflection. Where Byrd went astray was in making some poor judgments from which he should have absolutely no right at all to recover. I believe in a justice system without the possibility of parole for anyone at any time, irrespective of the offense. Second chances, changes of heart; are invariably fraudulent. Thank Heaven you and I have lived error free lives and can rightly sit in judgment!

"I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times... and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened." -- Robert C. Byrd, 2005
Excellent, he apologized, atleast that shows that some part of him knows that his actions were wrong. Now all he needs to do is tender his resignation, and allow someone who is corrupt in a far lesser degree to take his place.
Strange then, that you should mock me and accuse me of believing myself to be in a position of judgment, yet you are somehow rightly able to verify that I am making deficient use of my time.
@awh360 haha! you replied with a cute little play on the word republican, (a device I used as simple low-comedy) and no facts to back up your idiotic name calling.
B.) The word "can't" is more applicable to Democrats who have been unable to govern decisively, despite having the majority in both houses and the executive branch. What's wrong? Baby doesn't have a one-party system like you wanted?
C.) There is no "t" after Republican, where as Rat is already present in Democrat. Keep trying, I'm sure you'll come up with something that works eventually...
@Fish880 wow you sure do get tore up easy..... must have a lot of time on your hands lol took you two tries to make a point though. Thats sad. oh by the way Im Independent I just hate how republican'ts are pointing fingers but not helping so being an Independent I get a lil mad neither party is that great be nice to see a mix of both but republicant cant seem to do it. They just start wars and let the economy go to shit and preach religion while they have sex scandals and buy prostitutes. :)
@awh360 And there is the classic, "Haha! I'll accuse you of being unreasonably upset, because it will make me feel triumphant!" You think I'm "tore up" over your simple-minded avoidance of an actual response? You don't even know me pal.
And the two tries? What a pathetic goon, gloating over the 500 character limit... I could have crammed all that into one post, but it wouldn't have been quite so nicely formatted.
Back up your statement coward, how are DemocRATS better than RepubliCAN'TS?
@Fish880 wow you must be as senile as byrd lol. I said INDEPENDENT MEANING I DONT TAKE UP FOR BOTH! I like parts of each in my opinion neither is better but a mix of both is perfect. Bush was the greatest president ever! -(sarcasm)
@Fish880 What statement?! My statement is republicans are doing nothing and dems are screwing up. haha now you are avoiding the question of how easily you must be upset hahah. Do you even live in WV?
Damn, I hate this old bastard! He is a total embarrassment to the state of West Virginia! As a native West Virginian it absolutely stuns me that this narcissistic, senile and racist piece of sh*t keeps getting elected term after endless term! He has done nothing for this state other than guarantee that every building and pork project he secures bears his name on it. He has helped keep this state in poverty while he feeds his own massive ego! Can not wait until this scumbag is out of our lives!
"You ain't know"? What the Hell does "You ain't know" mean? Byrd has done nothing other than plaster his name all over our state! If Byrd has done so much for out state then why does this state continue to languish in poverty? The only West Virginian Byrd has ever helped is himself as he continues to flaunt his massive and unchecked ego! I think it is you who "ain't know"!
Why don't you get Robert C. Byrd to give you a grant so you can go back to school and learn how to speak the English language. "You ain't know"
That is one of the stupidest things I have ever read in my life. How old are you? I'm sure you must be old enough to know better than to type something like "You ain't know"
Haha, "You ain't know" is an inside joke and sometimes I get carried away with it sometimes, sorry. The reason that WV is in poverty is because young people are continuously moving out of the state. The average age of a West Virginia is like in the mid-50s. I am also a native West Virginian, and I've realized that no politician is perfect. I attend WVU, and my friend, I though we were arguing about Byrd not my grammar, young man.
I apologize for attacking your grammar. I thought "You ain't know" was not only horrendous grammar but also an attack on me. I jumped the gun and I apologize. But, since we are debating Robert Byrd, you made one of my points for me by stating that young people are moving out of the state. The poverty in this state has forced many people to move away because too much money allocated by Byrd always go to his vanity projects instead of creating long term solutions. Once again, sorry for being rude.
and each state has a constitution, and John Adams wrote the first one, for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which the Federal Constitution was framed from - google it, it's got a GREAT preamble (way better preamble than the federal one.) :)

Which U.S. Senator is a former member of the Ku Klux Klan?
Which U.S. Senator wasn't just a member of the KKK but was a "Kleagle" -- an official recruiter who signed up members for $10 a head?

It's taken, at most, 2 minutes to type out each individual posting, and what the hell is 20 - 30 minutes in a modern man's life anyway?
Explain why voicing the opinion that a corrupt, senile and indecisive politician should at least, not seek reelection if not resign immediately.
Also, please submit recommendations to me as to how I could "better" spend my time.
