There's a measurement of air pollution called the Air Quality Index (look it up), and outside of LA, nowhere in the US is nearly as bad. Not even NYC. Beijing is like 5 L.A.s heaped together. So yeah, in a sport like cycling, where you have to be outside, air quality can be a huge deal.

Let's see...the USA is one of 35 countries that are wearing the masks, therefore the US is not being "egotistical"
If you haven't been to China you do not understand how disgusting the smog is. I couldn't ride my scooter without wearing at least a bandana around my face. Again, if you're speaking out of term without knowing the facts...you're being ignorant. Sorry, had to do it.

dude, im not attacking the u.s, but we as americans like to point out ALOT! how great this country is and tend to mock those that we think arent. Come on L.A has horrible smog and i dont think they would walk out wearing those masks.. i dont think im being ignorant by stating the obvious, and its obvious this was just lame way of giving china the finger.
