  • As progressive and ahead of their time as maudlin of the Well were, Kayo Dot's entire compositional approach and aesthetic makes them seem juvenile by comparison. As long as all you are looking for is "riff salad," as Toby Driver himself put it so elegantly, you will never be able to appreciate what Kayo Dot are doing. And you'd be missing out on one of the most innovative rock bands out there right now.

  • Some of Kayo Dot is extreme sublime beauty, but sadly I agree that many segments of songs are just nasty sounding.

  • Such beautiful music...wow.

  • Amazing.

  • lol at troll getting owned by Greg

  • Hi everyone this is Greg Massi from motW and while I can't verify whatever e-mail was sent. I can tell you that in no way has any possibility of a reunion tour been discussed at all by the band.

Toby is touring and prepping the new Kayo Dot and I am working hard on my Baliset project so I think the reunion was just to record Part The Second.

    Sorry to be a bummer

  • Greg, Part the Second was probably the best record i've ever heard. And with this in mind, i'm beyond satisfied with it. A reunion tour would make my heart stop, but I, along with i'm sure many fans are simply happy that you have given us that beauty. Thank you.

  • Greg, would motW in any way be able to do another fan-funded album?

  • @baliset I know you guys are probably never getting back together (although that would be awesome) but is there any chance of re releasing your old records, specifically Bath is incredibly hard to attain a good copy of.

  • @baliset Not to be rude, but how do we know you are actually Greg from motW. Ha, yes I know this an old comment so it might be irrelvent at this point.

  • @Scarecrow6459 well that is a pretty fair question. i thinki there is enough information in the youtube videos that would connect me as the same Greg Massi who was in motW. Basically, if you look at the pictures of myself in every video and compare them to the old motW band pics you will find a very ugly similarity. =)

  • @baliset ha, sorry didn't look at your profile into literally right now. that's really, I really like what guys made.

  • @Scarecrow6459 well thank you very much. i always appreciate the kind words. =)

  • @baliset I hate to ask, but are you and motW have any plans that might be happening? It would defitnely be interesting to see you guys play, since I never got a chance to see you guys while you were doing show. I know you said awhile back Toby is doing his own things with Kayo Dotbut I was just curious.

  • @Scarecrow6459 sorry to report but no we don't have anything going on in terms of playing live. Everyone lives in different states now and Toby has Kayo Dot and a bunch of other projects and I'm working on Baliset.

  • @baliset Oh I see, well that's cool that you have your own thing going on. Thanks for the info man. Oh, that reminds me,I have a small inquiry I know maudlin used to have female vocalist, by the name Maria-Stella I believe. Do you happen to know what she is up to?

  • @Scarecrow6459 I haven't really kept up with Maria all that much but last I heard she is a real estate agent in new york city

  • @baliset Well that's, um, different ha. Well cool man, thanks. I'v been listening to motW and fond your guys approach on those albums very interesting and different. And I'v checked out Baliset and I'm digging some of the stuff you guys are doing to. As a kind of young musican, thanks for the music and inspiration man! haha

  • @Scarecrow6459 hey man no problem. if you dig some of the stuff Baliset is doing, keep on checking in. We have an EP and album coming out this year that i believe will be our best stuff yet and i feel like motW fans might like it more than our first record. Not saying it will sound like motW but it takes after the Bath/LYBM model of ambitiousness in my humble opinion and I hope it translates well on tape and communicates well with the listener. =)

  • @baliset Yeah sure defitnetly man, again I'm slowly checking in and it sounds cool. Ima check out some more stuff and hey I'll keep checking in both fronts, well like Kayo and Baliset ha. Do you yourself happen to have like a facebook or something to that acoord? :o

  • @Scarecrow6459 yep i have my own fb page and a baliset one

  • @baliset that's really cool is what meant to say ha

  • Sure sure.

    Funnily enough

    You're right about it

Part The Second just came out.

  • maudlin of the Well isn't doing any touring.

  • Damn...

    Wish they would...

  • Wow, you two couldn't be more wrong. Kayo Dot are anything but shit.

  • @jortylbro Kayo Dot is unlistenable, imo.

  • Bath and Leaving Your Body Map were literally masterpieces. I can't say the same for Kayo Dot though. What a total disappointment that shit band turned out to be. Glad another Maudlin of the Well album is in the works.

  • I couldn't have said it any better. Too bad this new MOTW are nothing more than remixes. But MOTW remixes are infinitely better than anything by that shit band Kayo Dot.

  • Actually in the motw myspace blog it said that only one old song would be on the album, the extended Blue Ghost/Shedding Qliphoth. Everything else would be songs that were written but never recorded.

  • They released re-issues of Bath and LYBM. Both sound awesome, literally 100x better than this.

There is so much texture and layering in the music, you really need a high fidelity system to appreciate how beautiful it is.

  • 'like starlight trapped in bottles'. i swear that is part of the lyrics but dark lyrics doesn't put that bit in.

'poison, venom, toxic fume, hath ensured thy witless doom'. could they be talking about climate change here?

  • the grass was so green it was almost blue, it definatly had more blue than yellow. there were fields in the background, and it sure didn't look greener on the other side.

  • i was out walking my dog and i looked into this field and saw the greenest grass i think i had ever seen. it was raining and there were droplets of water on the grass. it reminded me of a song that i wrote that sounds a bit like this, and also consequently this song. so here i am.

  • This isn´t the quality of the cd, "Bath" has a pretty good production.

  • does anyone know if this is the actual quality of the cd?

  • Their new album should rule.

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever. Especially the first part

  • @msa1985

yeah right, the first time I was listening to this song I was tripping balls and I love that guitar solo, blows my mind everytime.

Bizarre Flowers is the song which made me realise how special motW really are.

  • Could've had better quality, but at least someone actually listens to these guys.

  • so good.

  • yeah MOTW rules, and I agree the quality is crappy

  • the song makes up for the quality (=

  • press &fmt=18 infront of the song name, can be used for all youtube videos

  • dude don't know if you can speak english but it's grat you posted this song, it would be shamefull if the greatest goddamn prog band ever would be forgotten, the quallity is not that great but you can give it another try .. keep it up man

  • que album tan arrecho!! buen avant-garde
