dude wait whoa from the looks (and sounds) of it you are playing major chords but from what I can tell, the actual song is played using variations of those. (I think one is like a raised 5th or something??) They are essentially the same thing except for an exclusion of usually 2 notes.

I looked at your tabbed and played along to the song, but it just doesn't sound right. What sealed the deal was when I watched Thom play it live and judging by his finger formation he is playing those variations

the main chords of the song aren't just the power chords like you're playing. don't get me wrong, it sounds awesome, and your technique is really good. but the chords you're playing from the main riff are wrong.

@mark624 couldn't tell you the names of the chords other than their root notes. lol but the main riff has this kinda pattern goin' on with the low e string and the g.

..and then repeat the riff and you've got this at the ending of it

10 9 7 6

10 8 6 5

it's obvious wether or not the chords are power chords or perfect/dim . 5th , 4th etc ,altered chords . your technique is alright . And your tone is not meant for that much of the fall of troy .

@osirisshoeco the chords are actually all major apart from D minor, theres no 5th or 4th or diminished stuff going on. I was using amp simulating software so you're never going to get a great tone but it cuts out any background noise which means the quality is so much better and I think its better than putting a mic next to your amp for that reason.
