(cont prev) When we do the math, killing makes the pet population problem go away for a day. We need to instead invest in mand spay/neuter for all non licensed/non breeder owners. If you want to own an unaltered animal, they you should be willing to pay for the privilege at $100/year, and pass that on as a cost of being a breeder to your puppy buyers. Low cost S/N with adoption support & public education is where the taxpayers need to spend their money.
(cont prev) 20K /52 weeks/yr /6 working days a week = 64+ animals killed EVERY DAY. Stop buying puppy mill/pet store dogs when you can adopt! Only buy from registered, inspected, responsible breeders, if you MUST have a purebred and PAY DEARLY for that right! By spay/neutering your pet, you save more than 1 life, you save the animals that could have been created...7 litters x atleast 4-5 or more per litter = 35 animals x the 35 animals they created = 1225 + the one you just adopted TODAY.
Retrieving animals running loose to place them in clean, temperature controlled, safe confinement and providing food and water, and access to vet care is merciful and humane. It is more humane than animals starving, dehydrating, being lost, without shelter, being hit by cars, shot by farmers, or being otherwise treated cruelly by evil people or winding up a lab rat for experimentation before being killed anyway. We as humans have a responsibility to care for domesticated animals; we made them!

a dog gives and gives, they are here for you when you have a bad day, a dog loves you no matter how much money you have, no matter what material things you have, it does not matter what you look like, they love and love. They live everyday like you are their world to them. They are our angels, a gift from God.
i liv in orange county & a 3 yrs back i found a dog outside my house,it had no indication of havin an owner so we calld the shelter 2 pick it up, it wuz lyk 8 hours b4 they came so i got 2 bond w/the dog[which i named max] & he wuz very loving & sweet and i figured he wood be adopted quickly, wen they picked him up and left we called a month later to check on him and discovered they euthanized him. it broke my heart, i wish i cood have adopted him but my mom wouldnt allow me to have another dog.
This was a joy to watch. Judy, you are my hero and role model. I applaud you and everything you have done and are doing. Thank you for all. If there were more people like you in this world, the world would be a significantly better place. All the blessings to you. You rock!!
Thank you for rescueing Chile! If people would get their pets from rescues, shelters or reputable breeders, the number of euthanized animals would decrease significantly. We just rescued Mona, an 8 year old boxer, emaciated and ill, just had ANOTHER litter ~ a backyard breeder. All but one puppy died, and she is too ill to nurse that one. Mona threw up a plastic trash bag the day after we got her ~ a clueless owner breeding and selling puppies!
Judy gave me the opportunity to meet and love a wonderful part of my family for over 7 years- Shelby died this past year and I rescued another dog last December. It is so important to be proactive, spay and neuter, donate and do the right thing. They will love you!
I'm sorry to read of Shelby's passing. What a wonderful way to honor a pet, by saving another's life. We don't care where people adopt from, just please, adopt a pet! Let's put these puppy mills out of business so Orange County and other shelters can give their pets a longer time to find a home! Spay, Neuter, Adopt!
i have a dog named Shelby, shes spayed and is a three year old pure bred golden Labrador retriever. All my past dogs did not live very long, but i hope she gets to be over 10 which is the age my first dog ever died at. and we have a neighbor down the street who lets her dog have puppy's like crazy, its sad but one of them was hit and killed by a car.
@popl43 wow, i dont see how dogs die that fast... i have had 3 poodles since i was 2 and im 12 now and they still act like pups and are in perfect health. must be unlucky genes...
The harsh reality is animal shelters have no choice but to euthanize unwanted dogs and cats because these shelters constantly recieve new animals which makes it impossible to save room for all of them. Keeping every single unwanted pet in these shelters indefinitely would also be very expensive considering the costs for food and care. If more people took care of there pets and didn't get rid of them for no reason euthanization wouldn't be necessay. I'm not trying to justify it but its the truth
There will always be a number of animals euthanized. However, there should be a concerted effort to rehome vs kill. Orange County does not post their pets on petfinder or other such sites, just their private website. They do not proactively contact breed rescues. They make it difficult for rescues to work with them. Is it reasonable that with a budget of almost $10 million, they adopted out less than 4,000 pets in 2007? They start from a "kill" philosophy; that is the problem.
Regardless, they do not welcome rescues, and it is private rescues that buys these animals more time. Private rescues post on their own websites and petfinder, and seek out new families to adopt. It's called being pro-active, instead of being a dead-beat (pardon the pun). We are losing against the mass production due to the puppy mill trade who, for the most part, are producing terribly defective and dominant dogs with poor genetic dispositions, and these dogs are traded in for a new model.
This is a very touching and heart wrenching video. I am praying that it reaches many many people and helps them to understand what our animals go through. Please send this to your friends and family to see.
This video was not only done to bring awareness to our animals but also to bring awareness to PetRescuebyJudy located in Orlando,FL. They are trying to stop her from helping. Visit their site and check them out-they do amazing things for all creatures!
This is outrageous. All these animals ask for is kindness and love and they give unconditional love in return. Perhaps the residents of Orange County need to ask for a breakdown of what all this money they are allowed is being used for. Sounds like somebody is not doing their job and getting lots of perks. These animals should not be killed! This video is well done and thank God for Pet Rescue by Judy and other rescue operations, they will definitely have a place in Heaven.
Orange County animal control had a 2006-2007 budget of $9,022,347. According to their own website, they impounded 22,991 pets, returned 1,474 to owners and adopted out only 3,750 pets! They state that they only euthanised 13,386. I'm no math wiz, but it seems to me that leaves 8,131 pets unaccounted for!!!
Their budget for 2008 is $15,761,053! You have to be kidding! What are taxpayers paying for here?
There goal is animal control ~ picking up strays, cofiscating danerous pets, etc. If some get adopted, that's nice, but it isn't the priorty. Theirs is a "Kill" philosophy. Nathan Winograd and the No Kill Advocacy Center are actively and successfully working with cities and counties throughout the country, converting them to no-kill philosophy in a matter of months, saving lives and saving taxpayers' money. It takes community support and outcry. Imagine, a no-kill nation.....
I'm amazed at the SPCA in Orlando! Per Charity Navigator ,the SPCA of Orlando has an annual operating budget of almost 5millon dollars and will not take in strays, and continues to euthanize, but the biggest thing that gets to me is that this charity to "help the animals" pay's it's director $107,000 a year! That is criminal,I don't
begrudge anyone making a living but that is excessive and on the backs of animals!!! In S.C. the SPCA has a budget of 5.5mil and pays the director 50gran
Very very sad. Our tax dollars are being spent to kill pets. What's more sad is pet owners are dropping off their pets at shelters with absolutely no knowledge of their practices. The fact that there are so many anti-rescue groups out there makes me even cry some more. The general public is quick to bash a private rescue, and they have no idea that it's the county shelters that send their animals to the rescues. I hope that when I die, I don't come back as a dog.
I was at our local SPCA and Animal Shelter this week. There was a volunteer at SPCA who told me that once the cats get upper respiratory and are treated, if they catch a cold again, they won't treat them a second time and just put them down! I have friends and neighbors who donate to SPCA and I don't think they have a clue that they kill animals at all. They think they are saviors of the animal world, when in reality it is the small rescues like this and their volunteers.
Agreed. In many cases, the shelters give dogs and cats to the privates rescue, so the animals have more time. I've personally pulled dogs from a county shelter just to give them a chance. It worked!
Check out low cost spay/neuter in your area. I'm fairly sure they will fix your pets even if you don't have the money. PLEASE! If you find a little of kittens ask about them at the neuter/spay. I think vet techs should be able to do at least the males. Very easy surgery. Heck they do it on farms all the time.
"We are working as hard as we can but we NEED YOU!" Well said. We are a 501(c)(3), operating on a shoestring, believing in our cause. We really need someone, some organization, to step forward and join us in our efforts. We CAN do this!!!! We CAN make a difference!
Help us help the voiceless. Business owners and pet lovers the call is out. We need you! Please send what you can TODAY. NOW is the time for action. We are working as hard as we can but we NEED YOU!
Please, if you know anyone or any organization that can help, forward this video to them. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3). Helping build a no-kill shelter is a great PR opportunity, a worthy cause, and a tax deduction! What more could you want???? Thanks!
Once again you have made me cry! What a beautiful video with a perfect message, you make me so proud to be part of such a beautiful group of people. I love PRBJ and you too Gisele!!! I watch every day the extreme EFFORT and heart that goes into finding homes for these guys I am so proud of Judy and I love her, and her magnificent heart and soul.
Judy, Holly, Jade, Gisele and all the volunteers, I think of you every day and of a solution. What about the chemical companies that have a bad rep from using animals in their testing? They could redeem themselves (albeit a very small fraction) but for the publicity ... what about pet food companies who claim proceeds from the sale of their products go to shelter pets? Pedigree has been excellent as far as returning every email I ever wrote to them, and the people there have been extraordinary.
Susan, you are amazing. I'd like to say we have left no stone unturned, but you know that's not true. I'd like to ask everyone, to pursue these ideas, and forward this video and Judy's website to whomever. You just never know. It'll take luck and a miracle, but we're not going to stop hoping for either!
And thank you Miss Susan, you are an extrodinary person. Maybe one day we will all meet!
Susan, I am struck by how supportive you have been of Pet Rescue By Judy. You represent exactly what we are talking about ~ you are located half way across the country from us but you UNDERSTAND the significance of each small rescue. When one faulters, there isn't another to take up the slack. All are full. The ones who would have been rescued end up euthanized. Thank you for your support, for being a voice!
Please take a moment to "Favorite", rate and comment on this video. These activities will help raise it in the youtube ratings, and so expose it to more people who might otherwise not stumble upon it. Perhaps one of them will hold the key to solving our problem, either short or long term. And, if you know any businesses or individuals who can help us, please don't be shy about contacting them for us! Thank you all!!!
This is my fifth video in just a few short months that I've designed for this rescue. I'm sure you can tell that I have no plans of stopping. I ask that you forward this video to central Florida businesses whom you believe would join hundreds of PRBJ volunteers and supporters in building a shelter, where no adoptable pet will be euthanized. There are valuable anti-euthanasia resources just waiting for this rescue. All they need is a physical building. Can you imagine?
We count Gisele among the many blessing that have emerged from this crisis. She produces you tube videos for her livelyhood ~ how she stumbled across us we will never know! For a treat, visit her youtube site. She'll be annoyed with me for sending you away from our site, but I'm just so proud of her and her accomplishments. So, comment, rate, and favorite this video first so she doesn't get mad at me, then go check out her other ones!
There seems to be a break down somewhere in Orange County. Undoubtably the vast majority of their volunteers and employees want to help their animals, but their system in far from a no-kill philosophy, it is often antagonistic to rescues and pro-active volunteers. Contrast with Seminole County, which used to be no-kill, who posts pets on Petfinder, contacts breed-specific and general rescues, and adovcates strongly for their animals. Seminole could easily convert back to no-kill with support!
Wow. After reading the description of this video, BOO Orange County... Shame on you! You'd rather kill the unwanted animals than to give them a chance and support PRBJ. At lease Orange County could've tried.
Please be sure to "Favorite", rate and comment on this video and our other ones. These actions can raise them in the you tube ratings, making them more likely to be viewed by those who do not yet know us. Perhaps one of these new people will have the key to solving our dilemma and can help us build a no-kill shelter in Central Florida! Thank you!!!
While Orange County continues to harrass, Seminole County & her cities have passed resolutions of support! Though hoping that Extreme Home Makeover selects PRBJ for a project, Judy knows she cannot count on it. She is looking for a short and/or long term solution in Seminole County. When she does, she will need community, individual, and business support to make it come together. Please, if you are associated with an organization with financial resources, consider joining her in her efforts.
This organization does amazing work! It's incredible that they haven't had a "shelter" but have relied on fosters! I can only imagine what Judy would do if given the opportunity to have a permanent shelter. Great song...hoping to hear Central Florida businesses can help out!
and Thank you for asking me to get involved several months ago. I only support top notch rescues that hold my very high standards and am honored to support Judy and her followers! Kudos SerSam!
Thanks Judy for all you do for the dogs and cats . I pray God blesses you with all you need to build your shelter. Thanks Gisele for the wonderful videos to help the animals .
The XHM people are very tight-lipped. We know that they are interested ~ they've asked the submitter for additional information about us. However, they'll only let us know if we are denied. The only way to know if we are accepted is if/when they show up! So, no news is good news, but it is also very frustrating. While we continue to hope for this blessing, we know that we cannot count on it, especially with the Orange County clock ticking....

How is it going with the Extreme Makeover TV show? I read there was some interest on doing it, but has that been confirmed?

The XHM people are very tight-lipped. We know that they are interested ~ they've asked the submitter for additional information about us. However, they'll only let us know if we are denied. The only way to know if we are accepted is if/when they show up! So, no news is good news, but it is also very frustrating. While we continue to hope for this blessing, we know that we cannot count on it, especially with the Orange County clock ticking....

nothing is ever confirmed. We have to find solutions without depending on a miracle! We are the miracle!
