It's really sad to see how people on here berate about solid, reliable family cars for the most obscene of reasons. I own a BMW, so I am not guilty as a hippie or a penny pincher. However, I do not see any reason to claim the Prius is a 'POS', as rednecks like to put it as, considering their heavy reliability on V8 powered muscle cars that cannot turn a corner without over-steering and gigantic pick-up trucks that crumble when you crash them. The Prius is a good, all rounded family car.
If you want to save money on gas, don't buy a diesel or a hybrid. Buy an all-electric or just convert your own. For most people they're ideal, and cost about 3c per mile.
There is no give in the body. I would hate to crash in that. Crumple zones are made to increase the stopping distance of your body and this car seemed to not have any...
The only thing a Prius is good for. Hitting a wall. By the way, if you're really concerned about gas milage, BUY A DIESEL! Non-hybrid diesel cars are getting 50mpg+ for half the price of a Prius! I had a few days borrowing my friends Ford F6 310 (check it out on google) and it was a very fun car to drive and the acceleration is just ridiculous. I used to own many high performance cars earlier on.I bought a Prius mainly because it's a great family car and still fun to drive in it's own way. It costs us next to nothing on petrol and servicing as well as insurance and registration. I have another car which is my old mazda 626 gd turbo and I love it also but it's a money pit and monster. lol
the only reason i used the Civic si as an example is because i have one... lol. Even my old 1996 camaro z28 got like 25mpg. Very impressive for a fairly big v8.
I owned a v8 VN calais 1990 and i used to get 14L/100km. This is considered impossible, but i did get that figure. Mostly highway driving, about 30% city driving. It is still 10L/100km over what the Prius burns and cost a lot more to insure also. But I used to love it until it got smashed into by a learner driver. Damn kids. lol

A frienf of mine was spending $200 a week in gas in his van. He brought a prius and his gas bill is now $120. There is nothing wrong with driving a vehicle that uses not much gas at all. Add the savings up over a few months or even a year.
You can buy a fair bit with the money saved on other things instead of wasting it on oil companies.

you make a good point, but think of it this way, if you had a lexus LS and a mercedes S class, which would you take to an important meeting or formal event? same with a Range rover versus the Honda Pilot, they look almost the same from the rear, but the range rover is still nicer.

However, that ship carries thousands of batteries, for thousands of Priuses. It is a plug in hybrid that I charge using my solar array at home that cost me next to nothing. I drive to work and back on electric only. 70% of the electricity I use to charge the prius is from the sun and 30% comes from the grid from alternative supplies (wind, hydro, etc). I had a few days borrowing my friends Ford F6 310 (check it out on google) and it was a very fun car to drive and the acceleration is just ridiculous. I used to own many high performance cars earlier on.I bought a Prius mainly because it's a great family car and still fun to drive in it's own way. It costs us next to nothing on petrol and servicing as well as insurance and registration. I have another car which is my old mazda 626 gd turbo and I love it also but it's a money pit and monster. lol

I owned a v8 VN calais 1990 and i used to get 14L/100km. This is considered impossible, but i did get that figure. Mostly highway driving, about 30% city driving. It is still 10L/100km over what the Prius burns and cost a lot more to insure also. But I used to love it until it got smashed into by a learner driver. Damn kids. lol

A frienf of mine was spending $200 a week in gas in his van. He brought a prius and his gas bill is now $120. There is nothing wrong with driving a vehicle that uses not much gas at all. Add the savings up over a few months or even a year.
You can buy a fair bit with the money saved on other things instead of wasting it on oil companies.

its true, they are all (or most of them) are a copy of something from europe, the original nissan Z car was 1 part E-type Jag, 1 part corvette, and dont get me started about lexus, they send spies into mercedes to steal design plans for example, the GS was a copy of the prototype CLS.
