@martsutube If the 4D was owned by RailCorp, some how I can't see John Dumby having any say in the scrapping of the train? Rail Corp took what they wanted and scrapped the rest. I would have loved to have seen Rail Corp bring the 4D to Sydney to run on Carlingford and or Olympic Park shuttles?

We have the same train here in Sydney which has been running for longer, was copied by you and made into a cheap imitation, ours is quieter, is not experimental and there are no plans of removing it and yes we do use it for passangers. It is my favourite passanger train which here is called the tangara
@cityraildude You're kidding aren't you? Goninan's built the 4D train, some of the design features of the G sets were incorporated from the 4D. But if you look at Sydney and Melbourne, we've had Chopper controlled trains alot longer than Melbourne. Melbourne got the 4D and coupled it with ComEng sets from the onset. I think that the train would have been better if it was bought as a twin with another 4 car 4D set.

How can the Tangara's in Sydney be better than the Victorian 4D considering that the 4D was also built by Goninan's & it used everything electrical that is in the Tangara's? The only difference between the 2 is that the 4D is lower and the bottom parts of the body tapers in and the train doesn't have skirts around the bogies. Infact The 4D design was used on the Outer Suburban Tangara with the omit of the middle glass panels.

I wonder why some train carriage collector or enthusiast did not purchase this great set, being that it was a one off, and much to my surprise, disliked by an assortment of train drivers according to comments I read on another clip?

One very rare occurrence of the 4D being run under Connex. Most of its post-2000 life was spent sitting in the yards at Lilydale, Ringwood and Bayswater.
Unfortunately, they decided it was cheaper and easier to cut each carriage into thirds rather than give it to a railway museum. Either it was because of the bad wheel-slip problem or a lack of parts, being the one-off prototype it was. You could sort of compare it to a V8 being floored in the wet, but this slipping was under normal running.
Back in the 90s I did manage to get a cab ride, I was about 10 at the time - Mooroolbark all the way to Ringwood. Something I will never forget, as we (or, the driver should I say) somehow managed to get the thing up to 93 between Croydon and Ringwood East, according to the red LED numbers on the speedo!
