there is an easier way without leveling up in armorer....you place a bound enchanted helmet in his inventory by pickpocketing and then go and complete a quest from the grey fox The first quest from the grey fox is the one i completed, (Temple of the Ancestor Moths)...when your done and you go back to talk to the grey fox he will be wearing the bound enchanted helmet. then you steal the cowl

If you summon a creature and hit it 3 times, it will attack you back. If your disposition is high enough the gray fox will get up and help, and at the same time will equip the bound item(s) =D Then you can steal the cowl off him.

This saves you a bit of time and 500 gold.

That's why you must use a bound item lol.

The point of this is you can use it as you go through the Thieves Guild, At the end of the thieves guild quest line, you get another one, So in the end you have two rather than just the one and the red icon goes away once you get the real one.

You can find "a stranger" in the abandoned house in Anvil without joining the theives guild. In the story, he's the gray fox, but is he technically a different NPC?

I'd find out if he had the cowl myself, but my game is bugged at the moment...

you dont have to have lvl 100 mastery... you can add like a 20% sheild bonus or something to the helmet, it just has to have more defence then the cowl. soo you can get it with any level amor

i have a more faster way to get him to put the helmet on instead of punching him paralyze him its also a good way to get the cowl without him catching you because when hes paralyzed you can pickpocket him but he wont even notice you stole it if you paralyzed him and you can buy a paralyze spell at chorral mage guild or look in the other guild mage halls

You need to remove any fortify illusion enchantments or spells first, and THEN get to level 50, personality has nothing to do with it.

Ok from my experience this does not work when he is in Cheydinhal, I put the bound helmet in him when i pickpocket him then i exit and hit him with any weapon. Iwalk outside of the house and walk back in and he did not switch the bound helmet with the coif... Please explain.

Do as I show in the clip, I've done this 12 times before, You must be skipping a step lol. After you put the helmet in his inventory you have to punch him or he will not equip it, 1:02 in the clip watch.

Why do you need 100 armorer is that necessary?

It's so you can repair the bound item to 125% so it wont disappear since it is a spell. The other way to do it is to Disintegrate the item then repair it. Both ways work.

your wrong you have to be a expert to repair items to 125% if your a master in armorer then you can repair items without breaking your hammers

Disintegrate Armor Spell can be bought at the Skingrad Mages' Guild. Requires you to be an apprentice in Destruction (which is the best you're going to get, I think).

It's not a daedric helmet, It's a bound helmet. Did you not watch the clip? The whole point of the clip is to put a bound helmet on him so you can steal his Gray Cowl.

Yes it does, The cool thing is if you finish the Thieves Guild he will give you another one. So you will have two Gray Cowls, I put one on a shelf in my house and a use the other real one.
