No need to pay me. Your knowledge is payment enough ;-) You know what they say give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats for life. Same is true for hanging a hammock. Except I wont eat I will be hanging comfortably. O and did I mention I am 6' 5'' and 270lbs. And the sling did not slip and was able to untie it after hanging in it.
I never learned knot tying in scouts either, or how to start a fire (without gasoline or kerosene) for that matter. I did, however, destroy a lot of stuff! It's amazing that anyone survived . . .
I like that water knot. Just tied one with some webbing I have on hand. It's a simple and compact knot. Much better than using a plain overhand knot on the two loose ends. Thanks as always for your innovations.
I'm not a climber, but my knot books say that the water knot is the only accepted method for tying two pieces of webbing together. I think I might sew mine for long-term use, but it does work quite well.
I definitely noticed that, too. You could substitute some thin climbing rope, if you had it on hand. I think I'm going to try and get used to the paracord, as this is part of my compact, day hike gear.
@PacoWarabi One of the things I've been using is Amsteel supper strong and zero stretch. I've been using made up into a whoopee sling with a Marlin spike hitch. Easy adjustment and weighs darn near nothing. Besides ... "whoopee" is just fun to say" ... as my buddy Shug would say ... and has!
Paco ... don't be so long between videos ... I really enjoy them pal!
That Amsteel sounds pretty cool. I'd only need 20 feet of it, which would only end up costing 5 bucks or so. Maybe I'll start calling my setup "Wahoo," since that's fun to say, too!
I'd love to make more videos. Unfortunately, still on the job hunt, and still finishing my Master's. But only one class left!
I'm using the same materials as I've used in my other hammocks. I would feel comfortable putting 200 lbs in this exact setup. For more weight, you could substitute actual climbing webbing instead of the Wal-Mart polypropylene, use climbing rope instead of paracord, and climbing carabiners or quick links instead of the 150 lb cheap 'biners.
A bit quirky, but a good video. Thanks! I liked the Marlin spike knot.

How about "Give a man a hammock, he's lazy for a year. Teach a man how to make a hammock, he's lazy for the rest of his life."

What a great testimonial! I'll pay you later ;-)

Nice and informative video (as always). I really like this easy and compact way of setting up the hammock. Will surely try this!

simple, elegant, I am using whoopie sling now and have used cinch buckle before, have to try this on one of my hammocks.

I'd never heard of whoopie slings before. I may have to do a little more research into them . . .

Another fun video ... and informative. However not sure I'd hang from paracord ... too much stretch.
