When you think about it, Aladdin is set in the future. It's a future where technology is so advanced to have such stuff as a flying carpet, but society has long since crumbled, leaving much of it as deserts and ruins. Furthermore, it explains why the Genie is capable of knowing about Scots and French dining and a whole bunch of other stuff, even though he has been trapped for a few millenia.

I was thinking, "who else could have possibly done genie?" After some thought, I only came up with two names. Robin Williams, obviously, and Jim Carry. But obviously, Robin would win hands down. You just can't find a better voice for genie.

They found the perfect voice for the genie and Iago. It just wouldn't be the same if it was anyone else. Robin Williams has that natural energy to make the movie fun and Gilbert Gottfried has got the perfect natural voice for the parrot... For obvious reasons. Hahaha :)
