I think i just got whooping cough because i started coughing like never before... Im 24 and ive been sick before with a cough and what i have is not the common cold. I was driving and out of no where im coughing and coughing i can't breathe im trying to catch my breath i feel like im going to vomit and im somewhat choking and tearing.... I just started this today and im going to the Doctor tomorrow! immediately because This is no joking matter!
This is happening frequently in many people here in 2010. The cold symptoms and cough lasts 100 days or longer if you are lucky to get better. coughing coughing and your throat swelling, flu like symptoms and its not only happens with kids....
@shenaniganster It is "paradoxical" per the original descriptions, which is medicalese for it comes and goes in coughing waves or episodes. The kid may look ok, or like a baby with a bad cold, inbetween, but during the coughing fits, he may have a hard time catching his breath, look anxious, be blue around the lips, or cough so hard he vomits.
@Theroguesunit6 Dr. Rome says symptoms usually appear one to two weeks after exposure to the bacteria. The first stage can last up to two weeks and has symptoms similar to a common cold, such as sneezing, runny nose and a cough. Children less than six months of age may gag or gasp and have pauses in breathing. They also may not "whoop," and they may take longer to recover.
@Theroguesunit6 Non-immunized children in this younger age group are most at-risk for death and older children may have a cough for six to 10 weeks or more, which highlights the importance of properly scheduled immunization."

Is it continuous or is it every once in a while that this coughing happens in a person with whooping cough?
