i am so glad for you tube i find stuff like this and then let my kids watch it and most of it they love they get a kick out of watching what daddy used to watch we try and watch these kind of cartoons on saturday morning like daddy did growing up in north philly thanks for bring these things back to us
I loved Gigantor!....and Tobor the Eighth Man....and Kimba the White Lion! Thanks so much for posting! It certainly brought us a smile! Does anyone remember Fireball XL5? I was a little kid then.
I'm currently watching the remake of the series and love it so far. I know I watched this a few times and was like WTF it's in black and white but, I came to appreciate it as it's one of the first few mecha animes which without there may be no Tezuka, or Tomino, or any other famous mecha creators / directors.
So watch this series, hell even watch the 90's one that's this but in color, but just watch this damned awesome series, that will turn more kids onto mecha.
@les284 dude, it's just like a current country song sez: "don't blink" ~ so here i am, checkin' out "kimba the white lion" & "skippy the bush kangaroo," & "astro boy," which i remember a lot better than "speed racer" or "tom slick" ... uh, yeah, come to find out, this illusion we call time surely does march on ... maybe we (i) will do it better next time around ... happy trails!
Oh man, now I feel old. I haven't seen or heard Gigantor since 1965 or 66. When I was in 1st. grade in 1966 this and Johnny Quest were my favorites. Where did the time go? Great post.
One of the coolest cartoon theme songs. Sure it's pretty cheesey by todays standards, but if you were a kid in the 60's and yuo watched this, you knew this song backwards and forwards. Great cartoon, too!!
"His power is in your hands" actually. :) He was a huge robot of which a boy controlled. If you've seen "The Iron Giant", by Brad Bird, it's a kinda homage to Gigantor. So, to update it today: Giagantor would be a HUGE Robot under the contorl of a teen to save the world from various evil-doers. Powers? Up to the teen's creativity.
When I see something like this that I watched as a kid, I feel older than old!
Seriously, thanks for posting this. Its a trip seeing stuff like this, Diver Dan, Andys Gang, Jerry Mahony, Chuck McCann, & Soupy Sales after a hiatus of 40+ years.
Very Kewl that you can find just about anything from your distant past on Youtube! I used to watch this cartoon in the 70's along with Kimba the White Lion - lol - and I just had to here that theme song as a means of comfort in these difficult times. ooooooooooooooooooooh K!
Fatter then fat, Dumber than dumb , stupid than stupider la la la laaa Gigantoooor Gigaaaaaantor. I hated this show. It wasn't like all the other cartoons when I was a little kid and I usually watched it when I was sick and had to stay home from school. That and Gumby also makes me sick~
You know what, I did like it too. It was kind of wierd though. I didn't realize it was Japanese anime, it just didn't seem like the other cartoons plus I was just a little kid here..remember Branded? We used to change the words from a theme song "Branded , shot with a rubber band, what do you do when your pregnant and you know your a man!"
I had to look on your page to see who would make such a comment. I should have known you were in your 20's. Don't get me wrong; I'm not putting you down, but people of more recent generations just don't understand what seeing this stuff again means to people in their 40's. We come from simpler, easier times when even our kid's entertainment invoked a little more thought than just watching shit blow up every 5 minutes. Though, we had our share of that , too!
What is so much more thought provoking about "gigantor" ? Of course it is a nostalgic reminder of our youth, I'm 51! I need to change the profile just haven't gotten around to it. I have a good memory for jingles. I also remember the commercial theme song to newborn Thumbelina and Winston cigarettes and virginia slims and all kinds of stuff. My comment wasn't meant to upset Gigantor devotees. I just remember watching it as a kid and thinking something was off. I still watched it though!
@wmdbassplayer im in my late 20's and everyday im in disbeleif that people around my age dont appreciate the music/tv/movies from the 90's i watched gigantor growing up as a kid n the 90's along the ren n stimpy beavis n butthead etc but cant understand why people settle for trash when the 60's 70's 80's n 90's music is amazing art started to die in music around the late 90's and was dead in 2000 nothing creates an atooshpere anymore n no one has any artistic integrity at all nowadays
@peteypete1984 : Good comment, dude, but it's pretty much all generational. I'm sure that a lot of people that grew up with Koko the Clown, Betty Boop and Popeye (when they were new, of course) think that the cartoons of the late 50's and early 60's were crap. In the 80's there were a lot of movies made based on characters from the 40's and 50's and even earlier. Show the original to kids at the time and the first comment was usually, "It's in black and white, I don't want to see this."
yep, this theme is amongst the earliest of images my grey matter can recall; from the early 60's when I was a nipper. The '61' is a givaway. Amazing really that this clip exists in the digital world of 2008. Cheers FfB!
