Kaushika, if you ever read this message just to let you know you are the best of all that I have heard with exception of the greatest Bade Gulam Ali Khan. Amazing thumri and excellent selection of raag, well balanced Sur, Lye, well balanced taal, what an amazing composition and hard work on your Riyaaz. This shows what can a right guidance, and knowledge of Golden Raag can take you. I wish you well in rest of your performances. I am looking forward to see you in Chicago soon.
Oh !! what a wonderful treat for the ears.!!!!!!!!!!!...Indian classical music is in safe hands...Thank God!!! Thanks a Lot madam for uploading your wonderful performance......such a difficult raag sung so effortlessly with so many original variations!!! You are simply greattttttttttt
she has rendered this in its pure form, with due pathos and without her usual gimickry of taans, paltas, sargam etc, this way only she will truely become a great singer.
Guys !!! ...its fair that one understands "maturity" comes with age. Its like wine, the more its aged, the better it gets. So let us not compare Kaushiki with veterans like Ustad Bade Gulam Ali (or for that matter, even her own dad). But lets appreciate the fact, that at this age she is rendering such sweet music with an awesome perfection. And maturity ?? .. have patience my friends that will autamatically come with age !!!... as I said .. "Wait till the wine is matured"
Can someone tell me the fact about this singer. Is she truly daughter of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali or was it mentioned out of respect as declared by by br0wn0y?
An Addendum to what naamheen has already said, she has the two distinct "gharana" of music running in her family. Her dad Ajay Chakraborty was trained by Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan and thereafeter by Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh (just for the sake of knowledege, Ghosh is a stalwart of calsiical music with a little different style than Gulam Ali Khan). So Ajay Chakroborty breeds in a slightly different style fused by both these two gharanas. That has been passed to Kaushiki by tutelage ..
Saddest part manukb123... she won't be and USTAD... if you knew anything about hindustani classical music you'd realize that
her range as a female singer is not perfected and she does have minimal issues with her range but sadly when going up legends like her father and Ustad Bade Ghulam.
great potential, but needs more practice so that the taans sound more clean and come at ease. Also the sadness part of someone being lost in this thumri is very much missing - listen to Ustad Bade Ghulam; he should inspire you to excel. One day I want to see and listen live Ustad Kaushiki Chakraborty.

She has really poured her heart and soul into this thumri. In the process she has done justice to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's ethos. Hard to beat this.

She is the daughter of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty of Calcutta. Trained by her father from an early age. An awesome singer she is.

u r right manukb123...she has concentrated so much on the vibrato ... precisely the 'arohan' n 'aborohan' that the xpression somewhere got lost..
