This is how Madonna evolved as a guitar-playing and guitar-loving diva. I dont know about how Kylie can be an influence to her early 00s musical evoluion.
just a thought lol, you don't think they sound somewhat alike?????????? and why did i get thumbs down? Must be the Kylie haters! Can't we love them both! :P
Madonna had a folk electronica period that started when she adn William Orbit was experimenting with differnt kinds of guitar during the Ray of Light album recording sessions. After ROL and the Beautiful Stranger single, she covered a pop country signature song of Don Henley and included the track in Music for which a lot of folksy, country-tinged songs were made. She fully embraced folk electronica with the American Life album. However, the original Mother and Father track is pure electronica.
Yes, American Life's got great songs... I loved X-tatic process and I think the same happened with Music, it's got great songs too like Paradise (not for me) and Don't tell me
I don't agree. The original album version is everything... If you can't feel emotion with electric music, it's your problem. And an emotion can be cold, even "frozen" sometimes... I truely think the "coldness" of the original version is linked o the coldness and sadness of somebody who is deprived of father and mother.
True, there's more emotion when she sings live check out Live Aid Into the Groove here but be warned she does slip up and scream in highnotes, but apart form that her live voice without all the electronic adapters is better and more raw. Also the minimal backing helps keep it simple and less detached.
how does she manage not to break down into tears when singing this?

I <3 the segue way into "Intervention" towards the end.

I <3 the snippet of "Intervention" in the middle of the song.

J'adore cette interpretation; elle chante si vivement! J'aime quand elle chante un peu de la chanson "Intervention" aussi.

She sounds simply fantastic. More proof that not only can she sing but she can sing very very well. Powerful and full of passion.

I must say I love this song. Was Madonna inspired by Kylie Minogues song "Fever"? Very similar in the beginning.

You should buy the American Life album, it's a hidden masterpiece
roncerod 4 years ago 9
its very underestimated but eventualy iut would get wat it deserves like erotica
noneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 4 years ago
Yes, it's masterpiece, but the album version of "Mother and father" isn't nearly as good as this live version!
madonnafrozen 4 years ago 4
I think, musically speaking, the live version is better than the album's, because the album's too electric, too much effects to me
Darkeststar209 4 years ago
Yes, I absolutely agree! It's too cold for me!
