im so sick of watching ppl use HA's incorrectly. every video were people beat the huns is the same. the hun guy just runs them right up in front of a army with shields up and directly infront of archers.., to get 100% killed. HA's are probably the best unit in the game if used correctly but these people dont know the 1st thing about cav. tactics. POM woops noob ars again.

This is why Prince of Macedon is incredible - he must have a copy of Sun Tzu's "Art of War". The smarter opponent wins, not the stronger, and this is a complete example of that fact. WELL DONE!!

Archers on horseback, perfect combination of mobility and the ability to launch lethal projectiles. A pity the other player didn't seem to use it. Most of this Eastern Roman army just stood on the hill while the calvary carried on the rout, which this video was more a rout than a battle.

I don't think your opponent, Caesar or whatever, had a very good strategy. He could of made much a better use of those horse archers; what did he do? Fire a few arrows, send a couple squads, and then start retreating.

The Huns were excellent horse archers. And with that many horse archers, he could've destroyed ur army with taking only minor losses himself. If a Hun commander saw how Caesar commanded those Huns he would've ordered his limbs tied 2 horses and ripped apart as the horses ran in separate directions. No joke

probaly because what was greece was the Roman Eastern Empire and most of their opponents like the turks had alot of horse arches and light infantry, which are great against phalanx.  In the west there didnt seem to be a place where phalanx could have made a great improvment for the roman army, and they realy didnt have the money to be experimenting.

Secondly, I have made a FEW battles where I was missile-heavy. Just find them. I won't make too many of those because I look down on archer/slinger-heavy armies.

No, my opponent didn't choose badly at all. Horse Archer spam can is nearly invincible. My opponent's mistake is that he didn't use them properly.

There's a reason why there's a max of 2 Horse Archers online.

if i was the one commanding the huns, i would have spreaded all horse archers and surround your army from all sides. im pretty sure you also know thats the proper way to use horse archers since you mentioned in the video that the opponents' horse archers are cramped together. i would like to match you some day. i only have original RTW though. im very good with parthians.

Why did you say that "he isn't even using the Cantabrian circle"? I always thought that formation was useless and all it did was tire the HAs as well as reducing the damage. Missile fire in RTW has to be executed in single volleys as that is when it is most effective. I have noticed than kills decline unproportionately when the missile unit is firing less missiles due to an building obstructing, for example.

It's useful when your HAs are getting shot down by foor archers, not so much otherwise.

Cantabrian Circle makes your HA's nearly impervious to Foot Archers. Who cares about getting tired when you're able to wipe out 4 archers with just 2 HAs? And if you have any foot archers, then your HA's advantages become even more apparent.

I'd say the Eastern Romans are stronger because of their cavalry, but the problem is that it's really expensive. So at low money, you can't really afford the awesome units of the East.

he was an idiot. he should've made his archers use the circle rout. There would be less chance of friendly fire and it would give the arrows more velocity. if you dont believe me about the velocity part, then read Attila by John Man. he explains it well.

I would divide the Huns into 3 bands. The first band would be horse archers facing you head-on at the front without charging and keep your foot-soldiers fixed to the same direction. The second band horsemen would flank you at the left and engage your cavalries. The third band would just wait wait and wait at your right, and rush to your posterior side when your whole armies are busy to give you a final crush.

You certainly can in RTR and all the mods based on that. But it only happens if you can't position your guys well. Do a custom battle and cluster a load of horse archers together, you'll see friendly fire casualties.

You can also fill a wall in a siege battle with archers, and turn on fire arrows, you get a lot of friendly fire from that.

Ah, you have to be the 2nd player on this map if you want the hill deployment (for "British Grasslands"). Whoever makes the game has to start at the bottom of the hill.

That sounds like a Campaign question. But I have no experience with the Campaign mode.

If you're asking about some of the barbarian factions, though, a lot of them have units with "War Cry" which makes them more effective in battle. But I'm not sure if that answers your question.

it was because it the huns invention of the iron stirrup that the visigoths won the battle of adrianople cuz it made the cavalry charge a lot more damaging. well at least partially cuz the visigothic cavalry did a lot.

Regarding Medieval II, I don't see myself playing that game again anytime soon. I'm so more interested in Antiquity.

Regarding "Empire," I've seen some impressive gameplay footage of the naval aspect. It's so impressive that I doubt my current computer can handle it (even on the lowest settings).

I can't really get into the Medieval time period. Also, I discovered that playing Medieval II for a month made me "forget" how to play R:TW. R:TW, although less realistic, requires a lot more speed.
