I use the Safariland ALS holster as my duty holster, I wouldn't buy anything else. It's awesome, easy for the wearer to release the gun, very difficult for anyone else to. The retention is great and it retains the gun with or without the light attached.
@stainless1911 I have a duty version with hood and I've rolled around in the dirt and mud and I've never had a problem. The release does not have to travel very far.
@NerdHerderer-- Me too. I almost bought the blackhawk when I first started looking for a concealment paddle holster but then came across a lot of information describing the downfalls of the serpa design. The ALS is the better hoslter in every aspect, not just materials. I puts you into a better shooting grip because of the way you have to draw the weapon. I don't think I will ever use anything else, unless of course safariland upgrades the als design, lol
kool i like that right now i am running a holster that has a tab you hit with your trigger finger to draw the weapon out and sometime my finger doesnt land on it right and it wont release with the release being hit by the thumb it seems it would midigate that problem.
it locks on to the barrel hood / ejection port.

I can't recommend this system highly enough!

will it get jammed with rocks/snow?
I carry a blackhawk with an XD subcompact openly, so I want a retention holster, but I dont really trust the blackhawk.

@stainless1911
we don't get much snow in AZ, but rocks haven't been an issue AFAIK

@GunWebsites lol, I live in Michigan, so I have to put up with both.

This is identical to my duty holster except it doesn't have the flip hood. GREAT holster with awesome retention. Much better than the Serpa!

far superior to the blackhawk serpa system.

@NerdHerderer I run a serpa when I need a locking holster - outside of that a good raven concealment or a quality galco leather.
Daytonaman675 10 months ago
@NerdHerderer Got that right. I love that the ALS series has light holsters that will retain the gun whether or not it still has the light attached.

Was there some kind of soft material inside the holster?
bigtintheheat 2 years ago
yup, some kind of felt like material

@GunWebsites
Safariland uses suede lining in these holsters.

I agree, safer too IMO since your trigger finger isn't involved

I think the Safariland website says it locks onto the ejection port.
