Games like this give you a basic idea of how to play an instrument, particularly drums. If someone was serious about learning drums, they would take lessons from a teacher. But you can learn basic stuff from those games, such as how to make a drum beat, fills, etc.
@OMNi2k5 its not people who just want to play a game that annoy me. I play guitar, and i like to play guitar hero aswell, but its people like spyderpilotuser who annoy me. You dont learn how to play an actual instrument from playing guitar hero, or rock band, just like you dont learn how to race from playing forza.
@Jiraiyashir so it teaches you about meters, proper way of holding the sticks, paradiddles and such...? obviously im not a drummer, but i think those are kind of the basics. you can probably learn to play a couple of grooves from playing guitar hero, but i still dont beleive your actually learning drums.

This is pretty cool man. I would like to see rockband come up with some kind of triggers you can use on a real kit. I don't know what that little kid is saying either nobody is criticizing the developers. I can say that the charting on rock band is pretty accurate for expert, and on guitar hero expert plus is dead on. It might even help kids build technique. For me it's harder to play the rockband kit cuz it feels like hitting wood blocks, but it's all in good fun. Settle down nobody is bragging

Hey stupids. I play piano for real, and I also have Rock Band 3 and its fun because I get to learn some of the actual piano/keyboard parts. I even hooked up my own electric piano. Its a fun way to learn some things. The training modes have really good things to help piano playing.
Its called pro mode. You can use real instruments now.
If you have a newer apple iMac or Mac book you can plug your guitar and play through GarageBand and they have lots of different amp sounds that are pretty good sounding plus create songs and lots more.

a real professional drumset has much more of a range than just the crash, ride, high hat and toms. its got various cymbals and a lot of percussion. I'm a bassist and I know that.

this is really cool, it raises the bar on music simulation gaming by making it into a full fledged sims game. so soon everyone is gonna be playing the game on real instruments and it kind of creates ground work for something bigger

I play acoustic and electric guitar, the harmonica, mandolin, and I play the drums. And guess what? I play Rock Band as well. Anyone who is truly interested will, after playing the game, will pick up an instrument.

I was saying that the point you have made is very clear. the basic skill involved in playing the drums is still in this. rudiments are the key and this is clearly the basis of the game. I think this is easily overlooked, I overlooked it and i think others have aswell. do you think though? that having this method of learning will in turn generate a new breed of very generic musicians? whether this is bad or not is another matter.

Real musicians (which actually 95% of the people who work on this game are FOR REAL) would appreciate the fact that this is another outlet for people to learn and appreciate music. And guess what. Rock Band 3 has a REAL GUITAR coming out to USE IN THE GAME. AND IT WORKS AS A STANDALONE.

@bse523 before you interrupted the conversation, I was going to say that what he said, made alot of sense. I had not looked at it that way. My initial impression of the Idea was that it takes the skill away from learning the instrument. however, his Modern warefare analogy covers a point that I had not considered. plus in hindsight i see that the general skills involved in plaing an instrument (especially the drums) are still covered. so maybe hold your tounge before you start throwing insults.

@OMNi2k5 i totally agree with you...im not a drummer and guitarist and all...im a vocalist...and in fact i learned to play the drums with these games, and with the help of friends (they teach me basic concepts) just proves that even if this is just a game--its educational. no one has the right to criticize a person....unless he claims to be a musician. but few people do that i guess. the bottom line is : its just for fun and entetainment. ^^

a real professional drumset has much more of a range than just the crash, ride, high hat and toms. its got various cymbals and a lot of percussion. I'm a bassist and I know that.

will hold verdict till rockband 3. if you have to play tabalture on pro mode expert. It would be the same as playing a actual instrument. I believe the pro mode drums will require the use of the cymbals to register a hit. So well see. If it does go to completely teaching people to play will be cool and the next gen in music games.

this is really cool, it raises the bar on music simulation gaming by making it into a full fledged sims game. so soon everyone is gonna be playing the game on real instruments and it kind of creates ground work for something bigger

@SoldierCyfix that ONLY works with the drums and the vocals. using the guitars will NOT increase your ability to play the guitar.
although, if you're good at playing the guitar it'll increase your ability to play harder songs on expert.

@bruthaflo Its called having fun with a game. Every person out there who plays real drums guitar or whatknot, slams RB and GH players. Not everyone can learn to play a real instrument. Some people have no concept of reading music or Tabs. So they to this to enjoy the songs made by the artist in a different way. Some people are tone deaf and can't distinguish notes. So they play the game to have fun.
