  • "technical mumbo jumbo" hahaha hell yeah i hate sheet music

  • thats the first time ive seen that broken down. and they are easy, i found myself doing them randomly but through a R.L.R..R.. sticking, its easy as the right hand just sticks at one constant tempo. never knew it had a name and never thought of switching it up and using it more in fills but its gold!!!!

  • FLEP!

  • hertas arent even hard....

  • that hi-hat has seen some better days lol

  • I was already doing this, I just didn't know its name xD

  • @metalmaster126 same here. i've been able to do it for years

  • @FORTY848 I've only been playing around a year xD

  • was this also included in the cobus method?

  • I love that stupid bell

  • its got that chocolate feel.

    ...is what i heard ._.

  • Cobus and Jared together are great at explaining this stuff. They both get so confused at what the other is trying to say that they reexplain it in a way they are more comfortable with. Perfect for everyone

  • Hertas are great if you have a good hold on the pulse

  • What an awesome accent! =)

  • Jared you look so tanned.

  • FUCKIN BEAST

  • @iLoveAltNation apparently you do??

  • This vid got the creative wheels going... Super!

  • this is a nice quick fill!!!!!! imma try this out this out...... I like the fact that he doesn't worry about note values and counting and all. I love that he is like "you hear it, you hear the sound, and then you sit behind the kit, and replicate the sound"

  • Two of my favorite drummers together. Awesome

  • one person accidentally pressed dislike.

  • @CPMFH No! that was my dad after he saw my mind explode after watching this.

  • @Carlsv92 oh lol

  • Blink-182!!!!!

  • Awesome

  • That was.... Really awesome!

  • That floor tom sounds like sex.

  • I just opened this video on both channels in different tabs and tried to synchronize them. It resulted in me watching this with a bit of a reverb ;)

  • Hey Cobus, what pedal do you use?

  • @brimbles72 Sorry I'm not cobus lol but I'm pretty sure he used a DW 9000 Double kick pedal. :)

  • @grrrwaffles no, he's just extremly fast with one foot (slide technique)

  • @apfelipod On this video yes, but on his own kit he uses a DW 9000 Double Kick Pedal.

  • Cobus: It doesn't fit into a triplet pattern, it fits into a "grouping of three" pattern.

  • @EskilNaige Haters gonna' hate

  • @FakeMessiah94 How mature.

I'm not hating at all, I just felt that if he was going to use rhythmic terminology, he should be using the right one. It's fully possible to play hertas with a triplet feel, but in this example it's played in a 16th note feel, but in groupings of three. That's not at all the same as triplets.

  • @EskilNaige I'm 17. I'll be mature when I reach adulthood ;D And I heard him say triplet feel, even then he was self taught, you can't expect him to know everything.

  • @EskilNaige I agree with you that the terminology should've been clarified. What he said and what he MEANT were two different things. Cobus was trying to relate it to how the ear hears the pattern and not necessarily how it is written technically or anything like that. He did say "triplet feel" and not triplets. By triplet feel he meant "felt in thirds". There is no reason to fight over something like this. We're all drummers, let's just be friends :) - Jared Falk

  • @drumlessonscom Absolutely, I didn't mean to come across as superior or anything; I just felt it might be nice to clarify it :-)

Hertas with a triplet feel also sound very cool though. The first 32nd note and the last two 16th notes would hit the 16th note triplet notes, and each herta would start on each 8th notes of the bar (or something like that. Sorry for the crappy explanation :-)

  • @EskilNaige aaah ok, that makes perfect sense. thank you! to me it feels like a "triplet", ie three notes "long", but that's just my self-taught way of wording things :) and to everybody else, EskilNaige's original comment is NOT hating.. I've seen my fair share of trolls and that defo was NOT trolling ;) we can't be so proud that we can't even accept constructive criticism anymore, that's a situation where everybody loses. I appreciate the feedback!

  • for sure

  • Thanks, I had heard this patern few years ago and until now I had no idea what the pattern really was and how to do it.

  • i love the herta. very simple lick and you can get it up to super crazy fast speeds

  • nice lesson! I like the by ear approach; I'm blind and can't read music.

  • 8:16 love that one:)!!

  • Same pattern as Bleed by meshuggah?

  • @MrPigeliN I think yes, but with the hands and not te foot pedals.

  • @Adam94in Ye indeed

  • Accidentally turned my volume up too high & nearly blasted my ears deaf when the video started O_O

  • he really loves them herta'sxD

  • Cobus is so cool. I wish I could meet him!

  • it doesn't sound like a triplet feel to me. It sounds more 1&a 2&.

  • I play this pattern a lot! I have no idea how I learned it actually.. But it feels really comfortable to play. And it sounds awesome! Nice to see some awesome variations on the toms and cymbals. Cobus is always very inspiring.

  • Okay maybe MD got it wrong.

  • Dang, I gotta say, Cobus really improved. I guess the exposure really helped.

  • I agree to Jared Falk: "WOW!"

  • now people can know that cobus is not fast forwarding his video when he is doing the herta

  • Nice

  • I think it's spelled hairta. It is covered in the June 2010 Modern Drummer in "Strictly Technique".

  • @CounterRhythms no it's definitely herta, or swiss triplets

  • I love this when the rev used it in bat country!!! rock on!!!

  • South Africa

    What!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahah, I do this all the time. Now I know the name of it.

  • "Here's how you play it in a groove"

    Oh, okay. Thanks... I guess...

  • Dude!!!! That groove at 8:32 was beautiful!!!!!!! Can I steal it?

  • I like Mike Johnston's vid a little better. Reading the music sheet makes it easier for me. But this is good for those who just started and can't read. :]

  • cobus i trying to get your udrum kit on ebay(:

  • god that's a beautiful kit...

  • FIRST PAGE!!!! lolololol

  • wow, i'm looking foward to the cobus method dvd's

    great job!
