Its a bit unfair, where i work, women can compliment women without any hesitation, its sad that someone can't really express themselves how they would like without public scrutiny or being sexually suggestive. But i agree confidence can play a key role. =) I also agree with someone going with the flow and releasing their inhibitions...good video!
People just need to chill out. Most people appreciate compliments. Alot of str8 guys compliment me in business and at the gym. I am gay, and I don't assume that they are hitting on me. I just say Thanks.
Some of these guys know that I am gay.
I have also encountered alot of men staring at me on vacation in Mexico, I don't think they were gay, they were maybe appreciative of my body. People like to look both sexes who are attractive, and sometimes they pay comliments.
I get away with complimenting guys at work but that is only because very few know that I'm actually gay. I'm openly gay , but dont announce it to everybody, if you were to ask ill tell it like it is...lol i work with plenty of cute guys at work as well and i want to compliment them but not come off in a weird awkward way...
Hmmm yea i agree. I've noticed ever since my male friends found out im gay they've stopped complementing me to avoid ppl think we're hittin on eachother and so i gotta stop complementing them so they dont feel uncomfortable... its annoying, why cant things be just the way they were before? its like coz im gay im gona fall in love with them... stupid sterotypes *sigh*
I also did want to comment that I dont think anyone has right or wrong views on this subject. Some of us work at fashion stores where a compliment means nothing, others work in schools where people question motives. Its all relative though!
Reflecting on your video today Sam. I think the problem gay men face is slightly different than straight men face. A straight man needs to be careful not to compliment a lady, as that might be seen to be hitting on her. He can compliment another guy, as long as he is seen to be completely straight - married, with kids. A gay man might be thought to be "converting to straight" if he compliments a woman, and complimenting a guy could be seen as flirting or hitting on the guy.
In some respects gay men are almost in a lose-lose situation. Given how many people rarely hear good things - compliments about how they look or what they do - I think it is worthwhile risking being misunderstood to make sure people who are in our lives get some affirmation from us.
Excellent video. You are making me think and question how I usually act. :-D
Hmm I somewhat disagree Gary. But, I also know that for everyone, in every workplace - It will be a different situation. I was just pointing out in my workplace if I compliment a guy he thinks I'm hitting on him, and I feel I'm not the only one who faces this problem sometimes. Anyway, thanks for viewing.
I wonder if the problem is because many men would never think of complimenting somebody unless they were wanting sex. In the work environment, the situation can get a tad dicey if a person is thought to be hitting on a coworker. I was thinking more of an out-of-work situation where the risk would be lower.
Excellent video. I don't hide at work, but I don't flaunt at work either. Some people think that is not out enough. I have not commented much on how people look since I was in Junior High when a compliment about a person ended up being taken by the rumor mill of the school as a statement of romantic interest. It was not romantic interest. I wish I complimented people more on their looks, because people get so few compliments. I tend to compliment on actions.
There's nothing wrong with basing your voting decision on the same-sex marriage issue. Everyone has particular issues that matter to them more than others.
yay im glad you posted a video..it was a great video too.... i loved the video because i recently just had this conversation with a group of my friends....

This comment has received too many negative votes show
gay people should be thrown into the fire. like the kind you find in an incenerator.

It's tedious when people think that everything we say or think or do is a consequence of being gay.
