My son is almost 3 and loves his baby piano that has five keys. He has never touched a real piano, but he actually plays tunes on his baby piano, so I was thinking of buying him a real keyboard for his birthday. He loves to draw and he seems to love music and so I thought I would try to use this oppurtunity to stimulate his mind and encourage him. Do you think this is a good idea, or should I wait until he's a bit older for a real keyboard?
@ravyne82 I would follow his lead. My daughter has great interest in music from baby hood so we followed her lead and let her start Suzuki violin at 23 months and piano at 3. I would not do a lot of rote learning or any forced practice, but find teachers who know how to make it fun, short time span for young kids and trained to teach the young ones. I would also expose him to many musical styles through things like family concerts and Music Together or Kindermusic kind of classes.
@soultravelers3 thanks for the tips. Well my fiance bought him a keyboard from a music store. I haven't seen it yet. We are going to move up there this coming month to where he is and I'm not sure if he's gonna give it to him then or for his birthday in April. I told his dad about his love for his little baby keyboard and he went out and bought one, lol. He's so excited about it. Once we get settled, we will probably look around for classes and such. I will keep what you say in mind. Thks again.
@ravyne82 i think you shoud try him playing a note but not like a real song but like touching the keyboard if u se that he loves and feels the music of the piano let him play it but dont force him because if you force him he will not enjoy the beautiful instrument
@ravyne82 I realize this is old and that the comment wasn't directed at me; but my personal advice for anyone is to find one of those earlier Casio keyboards. They can be found at yard sales for twenty bucks, are loaded with samples, and can run on battery power. The only reason to invest in a quality keyboard, electric or acoustic, is if you're interested in owning one for yourself; otherwise, it may not get used. Unlike other instruments, quality is not nearly as important for beginners.
indian classic ie carnatic is the most advanced form of music ..for anyone who can master that ..all western is very easy for them..their melody lines are far more than any western composer can ever imagine
keep up the good work.....you are wonderful and extremely talented...I started taking lessons at five yrs old and didnt stop until a senior in highschool.....;)
I like it. Just Mozart was Mozart and if this girl follows this, she'd be like him or better. I'm not saying anymore, I'm saying the truth. Good video. Luck. =)
What many people don't realize is that you don't have to be a prodigy to be a great musician. This girl is going to be great if she keeps practicing, but she'll have trouble avoiding automatic labels. If someone especially pretentious or ignorant hears of her talent, and they vocalize disappointment that she can't play perfectly (she's 5 years old, for heaven's sake!) she will have a hard time getting over it. I'm not trying to say she's weak, but that she'll have labels from her peers soon.
@PianoTHIS You cant say that Asians do the pieces without understanding them just because this girl did an easy one comparing to Asians. I believe it is hard to do any piece without understanding it especially the difficult ones. Any way, I like the girl hair <3
@dancinchicaxo Yup. I started playing piano very early, and apparently thats what the music teacher worked out with me, that I instinctively understood a bad chord and how to find a 'good' chord at about 6 years old. The teacher said "That kids going to be a musician", and he was right. You can see it here, its only the begining, but the kids a naturual.
I think a childs greatest capacity is to be nurtured and to be loved and believed in. I personally believe that the miracle is in parents who understand this and that the expression plays beautifully through the child.
It's just her online nickname because we all picked our heroes for names when we started our open ended world tour in 2006 & she loves music & plays both piano and violin.
i wish i wouldve started playing guitar when i was this young...if i did i would have so much experience at guitar by this time...it sucks that i never really even payed attention to the guitar parts in any song and i never thoaght about playing guitar. Only after i took drum lessons and starded playing rock i realized how cool it would be to play guitar and make such cool sound with ur hands. now i dont play drums and i lvoe to play guitar
nyaa~ so cute! and she doesn't seems to have a stage fright... i had a majure one, and i still have one... but because of all the making me go on stage and play piano, sing, dance and act i got used to stage a bit and now i just can't live without it... i've spent a year without going on stage and now i need it so desperately that i've quit my dream to become and illustrator and started a new one: to become a bassis or a keyboarder, so i could perform for people... i just love that ^^
I started piano when i was at 7-8 or something. My teacher was old, nice lady, but in the end she had to stop teaching piano for me and some other girl due her kids had so many hobbies and they were taking most of her time.
After that my father started teaching me piano, but that ended pretty short. (i'm not sure why by the way...)
Now I have played piano just for fun, i dont even read notes. im just playing what sounds good :) I use my "sound ear" or whatever its called in english.
So true, we do not go for perfect in our family as I don't think there is any such thing on this earth. We go for excellence and at 5, we go for learning that is fun above all! ;) We prefer learning about music and not just playing one piece over & over by rote to do a performance. We always follow our child's lead as well. ;)
well said soultravelers- it's a good way to teach and encourage kids- the mindset strict that some strict parents impose on kids to be perfect and 'within a box' can cripple creative kids who have undiscovered talents on other things.
@soultravelers3 That has to be the best explanation I have ever heard. I play instruments because I WANT to, not because I need an "A" or because it might be the way I make money in the future.
It is great to see your comment about not striving for perfection. Of course it is amazing to see child prodigies play pieces perfectly, but it is equally amazing to see children express their creativity in their own way. People often think that to be regarded unique or talented you have to be brilliant at one particular thing. But it is more important for us to strive to be amazing people and your daughter is definitely that. She has a great spirit and makes others happy :) xx
@TheSoccerWizard she s 5. I can imagine her when she's 15. She'll be a legend by 20! My props go out to the parents for exposing her to the finer things in life. Hopefully she enjoys it and doesnt see it as something extra to please you both. Really talented 5 year old. Continue to nurture her talent and their might be a future in music for her.
@TheSoccerWizard No one is technically but can seem that way without having the magnifying glass over us..but what did you do that was outstanding at 5 ..chuck tator tots across the table.
@TheSoccerWizard Good but not perfect, eh? Great. Just DANDY! Is that what your going to tell your children at an early age when they acheive something like this? "It's good, but needs work!" She's what, 5? And you're what, an asshole? Come on, man! Put your head on your shoulders and smile. A 5 year old little girl knows more than you. :)
People are ignorant not understanding the fact that Mozart is a nickname. She has the cutest curls and I've watched many of these videos, she's wonderful.:D
Thanks so much missbunnyhop24 for your supportive and wise words! Yes, Mozart is just a nickname & it certainly does not mean that she is the next Mozart, just a child who loves music and is quite good at it.
She certainly is not a prodigy, but VERY few 5 year olds play this well ( let alone 2 instruments well for her age) as very few people even start ANY instrument at 5. Most piano teachers will not even take a 5 year old as most are not ready to learn music then.
xstars2bex- we live a very public life so that we may share our open ended world trip with others, so we use nicknames for safety for our daughter. It is all explained on our website and is common to protect children.
Yes, it is just an online nickname because she loves music and he is a hero of hers. Actually, other people gave her the nickname when she was 5 months old & stood on her own and clapped in time to music.

this is so amazing i started playing viola at a very young age and played violin for a bit now im in the CYO symphonic but tell her she is just amazing =D
i get beaten if i make 1 mistake on the piano, but she seems like the new Mozart :o watch out soultravelers3, ur daughter might be famous by the time shes a teen :o
i dont think her real name is mozart, notice at the beginning of the video he is about to say her name, but it is then skipped over. they probably do not want to give out her name. but, she is a very adorable little girl and very talented! :)
i dont think her real name is mozart, notice at the beginning of the video she is about to say her name, but then it is skipped over. they probably dont want to give out her name. but, she is so adorable and very talenteddd :)
see now this is better than the violin video because we can now hear what she is playing... pretty talented.... she looks a lil like the middle child in full house, stephanie tanner... haha
im guessing her name really isnt mozart but its a nice nickname, however if it is her real name thats very cute. shes so talented. i sarted playing the violin about 2 years ago and im still having trouble : )
wow she is great, i didnt ever learn mozart until age 10. i was watching how her hands move and she is probably almost ready to perform mozart's piano sonata #11. she is brilliant for her age.
so cute, this reminds me of my first piano recital. mine was somewhat less successful, i tried to play "bah bah black sheep" but i got so nervous that i didn't make it all the way through! what a precious little girl. :)

I like it that you guys don't reveal her name.
It's safer for her that way.
Plus titling her Mozart is just so appropriate.

i dont think her real name is mozart, notice at the beginning of the video he is about to say her name, but it is then skipped over. they probably do not want to give out her name. but, she is a very adorable little girl and very talented! :)

see now this is better than the violin video because we can now hear what she is playing... pretty talented.... she looks a lil like the middle child in full house, stephanie tanner... haha
