  • The part after 1:38 is absolutely genius.

  • People who like Avant-Garde Metal should check out Mirrorthrone

  • lame

  • 3:20 when the piano starts. Liked and faved.

  • triggers make a crappy set sound exactly how you want to. Not cheating at all

  • wow this is great never heard of it

  • i like the abstracticism of this song. That piano!

  • What happened to age of silence? They were supposed to have a new album in the works last year, but apparently they have been dropped/unacknowledged by End Records, and that retarded label of course have nothing to comment on absolutely anything.. ever... they pull this shit constantly with great bands and great people

  • @filthycarni2012 Aren't they doing something in Winds? The majority of AOS is in Winds.

  • Crap

  • @Aaarrrggghhification

    faggot.

see, we can all do one word observations.

  • this is my thinking music of choice

  • Comment removed

  • @blackfire8421 well first off this idea is kind of ridiculous, one because you get a large mass of people leaving negative comments on that video that means the video gets more views which is more ad revenue. But also Green Day? Seriously?

  • Really starting to appreciate this band lately - the thing that used to put me of were the vocals -not the fact that they are clean but I simply found the voice somewhat whiney (the same problem I have with SOME songs of arcturus and the main part of newer borknagar. I give music a few chances though and it has grown on me - now I find the vocals perfect; melancholic, soothing and in a way the 'glue' that binds sometimes frantic breaks and atmosphere bends into something more coherent.

  • I was getting a little bored with music until I came across Ihsahn, Peccatum, Solefald, Arcturus and now this. Okay, I wasn't getting bored, but I am much better off now that I have these bands to add to my collection.

  • whoa! 4ge of s1Lence! another certified jejemon!

  • i love this claustrophobic metal type

  • When i listen this song first that come to my mind is painter Zdzislav Beksinski.I don't know why?

  • Office ati-materialist bands-from-several-bands-together green metal.

  • AMAZING! They sound so unique!

  • Whatever people want to classify this as, it's awesome.

  • @LittleLaurenPeeps - right, just as long as the classifications either do or do not follow conventional rules, or in this case, an overlapping of both.

  • Avante-Garde metal is metal which do not follow conventional rules. Progressive metal is using innovative methods on conventional instrument. They follow rules, but not conventional rules, making this the overlap of progressive and avante-garde metal.

    PS, awesome song.

  • Progressive on conventional instruments?

Meshuggah made the custom Ibanez 8-string "public"! When they released their album on which this instrument first occured, it was anything but conventional, though they belong in commonsense to the Progressive genre.

So, again fail at putting bands into genres, either your or my statement is false. ;)

  • While avante-garde metal is an umbrella term, progressive metal is the genre of using intricate time signatures, complex composition, and the intricate playing of progressive rock (eg Jethro Tull). Technically, the 8-string guitar was a variant of the russian 7-string guitar, back in the 19th century, so it is conventional in Russia. Unconventional is tuning all the strings on your standard guitar to C and play using a steak knife. No Fail for either of us.

  • If it's just a question of conventional instrument, aren't they pogressive, as they do not follow rules, but use conventional instruments?

  • @inusarno I do not see what your arguement pertaining to. They are progressive. Weiss was comparing them to Meshuggah, who happen to be in the same genre, who used 8-strings, a somewhat unconventional instrument. Could you please rephrase your question so i may answer with greater accuracy?

  • Fucking Awesome song!!!

    5/5

  • i have a brand new feeling after listening to this song...

  • never heard something similar, really and excellent band and very original

  • Me gusta!

  • That be the great thing about Avant Garde, no rules. So yes this is metal, just another genre.

  • dude.

  • @NosferatuOfWorms Yes, without rules; the artistic part of metal, that i call... Part of Jazz and Avant Garde is postmodern music. And it isn't necessary metal.

  • @NosferatuOfWorms Music in general has no rules other than to use sound. There are no boundaries to music contrary to common belief.

  • @MorkaGraven When writing for different genres and different styles there's generally some sort of form that you follow. So in a sense, while music may not have rules, genres generally have them or as I like to call, general guidelines, more than rules.

  • @NosferatuOfWorms ONLY if you want to perform in a particular genre. Also, this is avant-garde metal. The only genre boundary is the "metal" tones required. The rest can be anything!

  • yeh its called progressive metal

  • progressive avant-garde metal, actually

  • Office Metal. Enjoy your sleeveless denim jackets and back patches, while the entire world laughs at you.

  • office progressive avant-garde smoochie metal, fuck yeah

  • wtf why does everybody think triggers make you faster or is cheating wake up morons triggers are just pressure sensors that trigger a drum sound in a speaker everytime you hit the drum. the advantage is thaat the sound is neater. its not cheating get over it.

  • @Apocalypticafan1992 The volume of the bass drum with triggers is always the same. It's kind of cheating, but I don't mind.

  • @JollyBard im apocalypticafan, other account. Why cheating? do triggers make u go faster? they have a similar function to microphones the difference is microphones get saturated and sound isnt neat. using triggers DOES NOT MAKE U GO FASTER. i dont see the cheat

  • @xxmanuelvaldesxx I doesn't make you go faster but you don't have to be precise in the volume as it's always the same.

  • @JollyBard i see ur point. but still taking that into account u got to admit achieving that sound/speed with or without triggers aint easy

  • @Apocalypticafan1992

It's honestly a matter of what the band is going for. I'm not against triggers at all, the majority of the time they do what they're supposed to and make the sound a lot more filling than an acoustic mic'd drum because they eliminate background noise. Cattle Decapitation is well known for not using any triggers at all, and in their case, it works; but if you've ever listened to 'Wounds' by The Funeral Pyre, the triggers sound like salami sticks hitting the rims.

  • @Apocalypticafan1992 it's cheating only because it makes you sound better than you really are, sure george kollias can go uber fast....i can guarantee if you took triggers off it would be incredibly uneven, good drummers have good volume control, ghost notes can turn a simple rock beat and make it thick and juicy sounding! only metal heads want to play at one volume 24/7 and of course it's super loud

  • @xxxslayerxxx666

you should listen to more metal bands

not every metal band is about hard and fast.

  • @TheRageOfTheWaters i actually do, and i have a wider range than pretty much all people....meshuggah, fellsilent, special defects, sikth, kalmah. uneven structures, RXYZYXR, periphery....but the 2 most important bands to check out are animals as leaders and chimp spanenr

  • @TheRageOfTheWaters but if you want to see my range then check out my favorited videos.....one minute i'm listening to cannibal corpse than the next it's she and him.....or jamiroquai!

  • @xxxslayerxxx666 awesome dude! i have quite a wide range of music i listen to myself and i think this is exactly how you should listen music. while most of the comments on videos are people who either love ot or hate it. i think listen to as many genres possible, this gives you much more appreciation of the different types of music.

  • Wow, cool!

  • la zorra humanos culiaoz!!

chupen el terrible pewo xhuxhaz de zu topo!!

    : D

  • 3:38 - 6:39... ?

  • _4ge of S1l3nce_

  • Hellhammer's triggers are tiresome, the sound of the recording is exactly like Winds, you can have the same musicians playing and it doesn't have to sound the same, that's just plain lack of studio originality, it's like they were using the same presets, plug-ins, equipment and settings for both bands, cool band and good music, not an avant-garde fan but can appreciate it, just that little detail with the recording...

  • whats wrong with you.. hellhammer doesn't use triggers... wake up and smell the doublebass!!

  • Urmm! sorry to break it out to you, but yeah, he does...

  • NOOOOOOOO DO NOT TELL ME THAT... NOOO HE DOESN'T I DENY TO BELIEVE IT...

Anyway... what probes do you have?? I have never seen him using them at least on Dimmu, Arcturus, Mayhem... cuz i've seen his feet moving in several videos... soo please tell me...

  • Of course his feet will move, triggers are not something you use to cheat, it's just a substitute for microphones that you use with a digital brain (effect processor) to assign different sounds to them, for example Samus from Abigail Williams uses the too and a lot of drummers out there and they are not cheating cuz of it, it's just a matter of preference. I don't like them because of the perfect and digital sound you get from them...

  • well... what I knew about triggers must be wrong, they told me that you step into the triggers of the bass and then it has like 3 or more hammers per pedal... I don't know how to say it in english but.. thats what they told me about triggers... that they are for cheating and a lot of the crap-core bands from now use them...

  • I got ya' There have been a misunderstanding with what triggers really are since I have use of reason hehehe! You can surely cheat if you want to programming them to do so, but I don't think drummers with a respectable reputation will do something like that. The problem with triggers that some people don't like and others don't mind is purely just about sound.

  • Precisely. I know a guy that triggers to get a clearer, more rapid attack sound from his bass. It's not about cheating: it's about getting a good sound. Good drummers like to uphold a good reputation. Cheating happens at the baser levels of learning, where some unwise people learn they can drum twice as fast with half the effort, and cheating is born.

  • @PaganWarDrummer I also don't see it as cheating but I simply dislike the sound - then again, fast double bass without triggers gets so murky its almost essential to trigger the bass kick. But somehow I don't mind triggered drum sounds so much in projects like new arcturus or this - it actually fits the atmosphere and music quite well :)

  • wicked fucking band name

  • Found this group looking for bad ass fucking metal without the played out screaming and growling. This shit is bad ass.

  • amazing album ! great music ! check out the projects of the band members, u would never regret...

  • Why is his voice weird? I didn't think it was weird. My favourite avant-garde band is Unexpect, now those are strange vocals. =] And strange music, actually, but therefore also so beautiful. Never heard of this band before, but I like it, especially the intro.

  • Unexpect!! :D

Have you heard of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum? Their musics are awesome, but you have to give 'em some time to enter in your brain.

  • dunno why Lazare doesn't do more he recently did some vocals in Winds but he needs a band of his own. Maybe even Arcturus

  • so u don't know solefald ? what a shame

  • the vocals remind me a lot of into eternity =D

  • Very strange start, but so good. Keyboards are great in this band.

  • The group is EPIC WIN! Hellhammer is a part of the holy trinity of drummers for me(George Kollias, Thomas Haake Hellhmmer) The band rocks! If you like this you must try Arcturus.

  • You can definitely tell this is Avant-garde metal! It is experimental, and its originality shows this. I loved the intro. The heavy drums/guitar contrasted greatly with the classical. I agree with Battossai3000. His voice is weird, but I enjoy it. All and all this was very unique. <3

  • Fucking Awesome

  • Age of Silence are basically Winds with Lars (aka Lazare) on vocals. Winds have a more prog / technical shape, Age of Silence are more vocal based and made of pure WIN.

  • what do you mean with "win"?

  • It's a way to describe how beautiful and unique a thing is... in this case, Lars' vocals really match the description :).

  • its lazare from solefald/borknagar singing

    hellhammer on drums

and a bunch of people from winds i beleive...

its pretty much made of pure win

  • This was pretty interesting.. =/ good but.. different..

  • a beautiful sounding avant garde band.

  • itunes

  • Yeah, it´s Hellhammer alright :-)

When i first heard that Band, i had to think of Solefald and Arcturus, immediatly^^

    It´s so damn good!

  • fully agree on that.

    amazing sound.

  • lol u can tell who the drummer is straight off :-P good ol' hellhammer!

  • Hey, is this Solefald?

    They sound exactly like them.

    Great Song! :-)

  • no, check solefald's myspace then search for age of silence on the page. it explains all!

  • awesome stuff!

  • Acceleration, an excellent album!

  • superb. They have a new fan.

  • cool
