If you actually look at the salaries and compensation, WLU is VERY competitive, and salaries are among the higest for the size of the university. Remember, it is the CAS FACULTY that chose to strike, not WLU. WLU admins. have offered a 9% increase over 3 years, and the CAS refused it. And do you know what? The more the CAS gets, the more our tuition rises. Look at the facts before looking at the propaganda.
Competitive with whom? Nippising? Trent? Are you serious right now, or are you just an articulate troll? Let's glance at UW at least long enough to say their CAS don't need a union - they're kept so content, they don't need to form one! Compare that with ours - and come now, we do pay a pretty penny in tuition as it is; yet class sizes continue to rise, and our profs become even harder to reach just because the amenities aren't good enough.
What does that say about our univesity administration after all? Isn't it embarassing that our univesity is the only one on strike? What kind of message does that send to the employers that are seeing "Wilfrid Laurier" on resumes??? These are all valid arguments that all go against the students and their academic credibility.
I agree that the CAS staff need to renegotiate their deal. I don't believe the timing is fair for the students. Some of us are 4th year and there is a risk of many of our classes being cancelled for the year and have to repeat them in extreme cases. I don't agree with this strike's timing and both sides must get back to the bargaining table and be reasonable.
Couldn't have said it better myself ;) Let's hope both sides get back to negotiating and let's hope the admins listen to what the CAS have to say. This strike is really only gonna hurt us, an' I think Admin knows that (hey, if it makes them look bad, right?) ...dontcha just love politics?
Thankya! And hell yeah; the CAS really aren't asking for so much from the uni. In comparison with the 30 million Laurier's taken from the operating budget since 2004 to do upgrades (some purely cosmetic, some needed, most still woefully inadequate where profs/office space are concerned), a couple million for the profs isn't much.

He is the one in charge. He is the one who makes the decisions. He is the one who can tell us, and he isn't doing so. I went with some questions that students had, and he "Won't Speculate" on what will happen to us, when it is him who decides.
Sure, he can't speculate on what WLUFA will do, but he sure can on what he will do, unless he isn't thinking that far ahead. Funny thing, we all are.
Oh my... and here I thought I was being too critical - but "won't speculate" is indeed miles apart from "can't". So he won't speculate - I guess his mind's already made up, and we just get to wait to find out what his choice was. Nice. Y'know, I hear UofT, York, UW, Trent, and oh, a whole buncha other universities have really good programs...
Maybe Dr. Blouw has something definitive to say (since he won't speculate) on why we should stay at Laurier?
