@ichigo2008bleach This is Thief, and yes, it is better than BabasChess. Thief provides helpful shortcuts and provides many settings without attempting to shield the user from what's actually taking place like BabasChess does.
I favor these live blitz videos. Thank you for that. I also like you commenting on chess games, and I wonder if you can comment on any game played by the young Norwegian Magnus Carlsen? I do not have any suggestions - just "fishing"... Thanks and take care.
thanks for the videos, they're interesting and informative.
commenting to point out, though you might already know (since you've mentioned danielsen in another blitz video), krakkaskak posts (posted) his >10min videos on google video. i have no idea how annoying their UI is, not posting anything there myself, but if you're looking for a way to share your longer videos, maybe that would work.
On 16. Qxe4 i think e6 has some potential. If he doesn't move the queen you have the beautiful Bd5 skewer for the exchange. Even if the resulting piece is taken with one of the knights you gain a center pawn with tempo.
Just a thought =] still like the way you played it though!
16...e6 is ok as well. It attacks g5, prepares ...Bd5, and the weakness created at f6 seems difficult for White to exploit.
17.Rhg1 for White is probably the best idea so that ...Bd5 can be met by moving the Q and playing for c2-c4 to get a center push. But this plan is slow and Black can probably make White pay via queenside pressure.
Matt - I actually find your live blitz games to be some of your most interesting and educational videos. It's too bad you're limited to 11 minutes. Can't thank you enough for this great resource - looking forward to the next video.
Ok im gonna use my time to study end games and well known openings. Thanks for the advice Matt your a great guy. Im looking forward to watching your next video.
p.s. what would you personally suggest is the strongest opening move for white? and maybe a quick explanation why?
Hello Matt, thanks for all your videos. Your a great chess player. Im currently rated around 1700 but would really like to improve. Do you have any advice to help me move up to the next level?
Kind of hard with just that information, when I was 1700ish I was near the end of my high school career. Then I took a break for college and didn't really play that much. After college I had to start from scratch, I studied basic and complex endings, I played classical openings (1.e4 e5!, 1.d4 d5!) sort of by ear and forced myself to relearn them.
I'm more just thinking out loud here, but it'd be neat to see you do one of these blitz videos against another youtuber (who does the same) so that we could hear both colours thinking as they play, especially if the other does the same sort of constructive "what's my opponent's plan" commentary.
Maybe. Dunno who it would be. On the old USCL we (the Chess Advisers) used to do something similar where we'd play a game with each other and whisper (observers can read but not the players) our thoughts. BOTM (battle of the minds) I think it was called.
What's the big deal about my FICS rating? I could probably get my blitz over 2000 in a couple days if I tried (but not while recording the games, that's just too difficult). My standard (30 minute games and longer) is already over 2000. I could probably also get my lightning rating over 2000, I'm actually pretty decent at 1 0 as long as I'm not playing anyone who plays thousands of games a day.
I should really get my bughouse rating up from 1400ish... now that's just embarrassing.
I like how you focassed on crippling his pawns, and how he ended up with 3 on the same file, was funny to look at afterwards too :).
Well played, don't worry about the video beeing another live blitz, I'm sure most of your viewers like this just fine :). Thanks for playing a 5minutes round. See ya in the next one.
I thought it was instructive how you thought very carefully before trading of your dark squared bishop. I would have done it immediately to triple the pawns and win a pawn. It shows that stronger players are often more concerned with dynamic pressure and attacking potential than material. "I hate to give up this dark squared bishop". I learned something here. Thanks.
16...Qa5 is really an active move. Being a more conservative player, I would have played 16...e6 instead. But White then has very active play trying to pry open the h-file with idea of h4 h5, so I think your 16...Qa5 is rather good actually. Well done once again!
As far as i can tell(and that's not very far) that was a well played game. i always love these blitz games, and honestly, i think they are just as educational as your other tutorials thanks largely in part to the commentary you provide. Being able to be in your head is something you can't get out of a book. So, thanks for the great vid and keep it up.
I don't remember looking at that move although I don't know if I would have played it as I felt it was important to prevent him from getting on my 2nd rank via Rd1-d7. Hence the move played in the game, ...Rad8 contesting the file.
what did you mean by winning a pawn at 7:01?
did you mean on the A2 square? counter would be to push B2 to B3 :)
little3ndler 3 weeks ago
@little3ndler i thought he meant Re5, attacking both c5 and g5. other option was Bxc3, bxc3, Bxa2,

No no -- sorry for misunderstanding. True the voice sounds dry and stoic.
I really enjoy your videos and find them very helpful, and I like the analytical approach you give them.

An accurate description I have heard, and agree with, is that 1.d4 is the strongest move, and 1.e4 is the most aggressive.

I'd like to play a blitz game against you, do you use chessdotcom?

Okay that just hangs a queen
I do not use chessdotcom. I only play on FICS and not very often.

17...Qd8 looks interesting
worldwarlooming 2 years ago
Given Black's Q just went to a5, 17...Qd8 is a funny idea... but I like it!
If Qxd8, Raxd8 N(either)e2 Rfe8 with pressure. If Qxb7, Qxg5 Qc7 Bh6 wins material (other B covers f1)
But Qc5 seems like a decent reply.
