Thank you so much for this, I learned yesterday how to crochet and made a beanie last night crocheting in the round. I wanted to know if it's easier to make multiple granny squares an attach them for a baby blanket or just make one granny square into a large blanket? Thank you!!
@fuzzywuzzy1944 It really depends on your personal preference, and how you want the finished project to look. I, personally, hated joining granny squares so would do one big one for a baby, or alternately you could do just lines of double crochet, make it the size you want it then do a fancy border around the edge. Up to you.
will do and thanks again you're great -please do another granny square join like one that you place one granny on top of the other and crochet one v so it kind of hidden. i saw that on someone's blog but it was just pictures which isn't as good as your videos!
okay so I learned a lot from you but then I was joining some basic granny squares some of which were five rounds and a few were 6 rounds where I joined the bigger squares looks wonky (theres a gap in the corner) should i redo it or should i put a few more larger squares to make it even out or should they all be the same size
I adore this video. You made it very simple for me to understand and I picked up on it very quick. I am new to crocheting and I love it! Thank you and I can't wait to try your other videos.
Thank you for this wonderful video I make a lot of rugs for nursing homes and always found joining the granney squares the worst part but now it is easy and i really enjoy putting squares together . thanks
I wonder why you have chosen this awkward way of holding the hook - it makes everything harder and the work keeps falling off your hands because you are not holding it properly either. I suggest you give a try to the other, old method, the one where you hold the hook like a pen, and ALWAYS the tip pointing downwards, and the work securely between the last fingers of the left hand. Difficult to explain in words, I know. But the work shouldn't be hanging loosely where it wants to!
@irmar She holds the hook and work much the same way I do-I think of my grip like holding a dinner knife. Just as there are many ways of holding a pen (I've seen quite a few) there many ways of holding a hook, and it doesn't look to me like she is having difficulty. My way feels most comfortable for me, and when I've tried holding it like a pen it felt very awkward. I'm just saying, there's room for other viewpoints, and I usually only suggest something different if someone asks for help.
the fact that you also do it that way does not mean that it will give the best results. I know that trying a new thing is difficult when one is used to something for a long time.. But I feel that letting the work hang without you constantly controlling it is more difficult because you have to catch it up again all the time, and that if someone tried the method of holding it etc..., they would say "eureka". I gave my opinion to be helpful, why on earth are you so bothered?
@irmar Simply because of your phrasing: "awkward way of holding the hook" "not holding [the work] properly." It's that "properly" bit. Just because it's different doesn't make it wrong. So if we're most comfortable with it this way, let it be. I don't find my work to be always falling off my hands, and I don't see that hers is falling off either. Please don't read my words as being angry, because I'm not, I was only trying to point out there are many "correct" ways to do it.
Thankyou so much for your wonderful comment ! Get awesome feedback like yours is what makes all the yard work that i out into the videos(filming, crochet, editting, uploading) so worth it ! Have a great day
Thank you for this video. It was the second one I viewed and haven't even seen it to the end yet however your explanation is brilliant enough I'm ready to try it. The first video I viewed started after she had already joined them. Not everyone is a good instructor but I give you a gold star and your adorable accent isn't even part of the reason why.
Thank you sooooo much!!! I am 26 years old, and learned how to crochet hats on youtube. A friend at work taught me to make a blanket...but its basically 1 huge granny square. Your video was so incredibly helpful!! Now i can make lots of granny squares, with no fear of joining them being "too hard." Thank you again! Keep the videos coming!!!
Thanks for the lovely video.I understand that that the first Granny square need to be completed and the rest of squares worked the last row as we join with slip stitch.Must give a try with a even tension before a blanket or spread is crocheted.
Thank you for this video. I found it most useful, concise, clear and easy to follow. It will make my charity crochet work so much easier in the future.
I will take the time today to follow your steps. I have all my squares ready to connect. I'm excited about this part. It's great that you have used contrasting colors for th sake of visibility. Surprisingly, some instructors have not. Thank you for such a quick reply. I shouldn't have been so quick to comment.
Thanks for this video! It was really helpful. I'm making a blanket for my mother. This is the best technique for joining squares. The corners are tricky but I got through it. :-)
Hello from Maryland, US - this video is absolutely wonderful. I've been waiting for a friend to show me how to join my granny squares for quite sometime until someone else mentioned this video. Your instructions are very easy to follow and I am joining my squares right now. THANK YOU SO MUCH
I wanted to make a granny square afghan for my new nephew and needed to know how to join the squares. I just love your method and you explain it so well! Thank you, I know that he'll love his new blankie!
I am so glad that you liked the method. Once you get the hang of it its a fantastic fast method . It makes me smile that the love of crochet can be shared around the world !
Thank you so much for the video I am glad I stumbled across it. I decided to make squares out of leftover yarn. I did not want to whip stich the squares together and your video was extremely helpful.
There are other tutorials on the Net that teach how to join grannies as you go, but this is the BEST! Thank you so much for taking the time to videotape this.
Also, some other tutorials call for doing a ch 1 before each set of 3 DCs, after doing the slip stich into the top square. I found this makes the join more open and less secure, and I'm glad your method leaves it out.
Again, from Houston, TX, USA, thank you ever so much!
I am so pleased with the outcome of my afghan using this style of joining. This technique for joining granny squares produces a lovely blanket. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. kind regards from Philadelphia PA, USA
Do you have good advice on how to join granny squares together with double stitch? I'm looking for more of a border between squares (I'm working with all white for a coverlet). I've done quite a bit of looking on google and youtube and I'm having a hard time finding a good method.
Thank You So Much, I love that idea... That's what I'll do. The fancy border sounds ideal!
