I love how people are calling the Leon Cupra R "Shit" in comparison to the Focus ST. For your information the Focus is a much newer more update car. The Leon is an old 1998 design and the 1.8 20VT Cupra R was from 2002 - 2005 whereas the Focus ST was from 2005 - onwards. Its like us Leon fans comparing a 2006-present Leon Cupra II with the 2.0 TSi engine against an old 1998-2004 model Focus RS Mk1 with the 2.0T engine and calling the Focus "Shit".

This model of Leon Cupra R was from 2002 - 2005 and was in direct competition with the Vauxhall Astra "G" GSi and Ford Focus Mk1 RS at the time it was made and this ST wasn't released when this Cupra was around. Its exactly the same as taking Leon Cupra II and comparing it to older Focus Mk1's and older Astra G's then turning round and saying Seat is much better than Ford and Vauxhall. This lot are all clueless morons, they have no idea.
@846524162 Yes, The Leon Cupra R has been around since 2002 and this ST has been around since 2005. The Leon Cupra R's are 3 years older and Mk1 Leons are not in the same generation and league as Focus Mk II's. Mk1 Leon Cupra R's were rivals to the Focus RS Mk1, they aren't in the same generation as the ST-2 and ST-3. The Leon is an older 210 1.8 20VT and the ST is a 221 2.5 20VT.
@1ns4ne1d10t I didn't really understood what you wrote because I'm not familiar with Seat's so I don't know much about them. But I agree, Leon is older model and it has 1.8T, which doesn't have enought torque to compete with 2.5T litre engine.
But as a Focus fan, I prefer Focus to win, I'm just more into them. On the other hand, I would love to see 2010 Focus ST and Leon Cupra 2010, that would be fair fight, don't you think? :)

The newer Seat Leon Cupra II against this ST is definately fair. It came out in late 2005-ish and it has the later 2.0 TSi engine in it which is more of a match. The Focus 2.5T ST vs a 2.0 TSi Leon is a fair fight for sure. Comparing it with the old 1.8 20V engine is not really fair game.

la unica lastima aqui es que los regios no cuidan sus carros, pasan por los topes como si no estuvieran, muy pocos se frenan un segundo y la gran mayoria va a 60 y se los pasa hechos madre, un amigo se mato xq se le cayo el motor a su carro x no cuidarlo, y la vdd si da coraje ver R8s y Ferraris con bolas en las llantas y lo peor e sverlos pasar lo mas rapido q pueden x la altura del carro los topes

Focus owners are the biggest losers... They pay more money for a ST Focus than a GTi Golf. Then 3 years down the line it depreciates like an Alfa Romeo because its a Ford. Leon owners pay 1/4 less for a new Cupra R. Then in 3 years time... its actually still worth at least 2-3 grand more then a Focus ST because its owned by VAG. Ford will always 1st place... In depreciation that is...

What does the R have more that the standard cupra ? Apart from the different mapping and the s3 intercooler ? Ok, 19'' wheels with no bigger brakes, of 4 pot... is it really worth buying the R ? What is your opinion on this?

@ClaudioArrau: the R has, to beggin with, 0,4 PSI more turbo pressure, so it's no only a remap. It's not only 25 HP more, it has much more torque and, best, all those who have tested it have said that, in comparison to the normal Cupra, the R has much more instant response to the throttle and much more acceleration. Read the different magazines and take a look. The front and rear suspension is 35%/30% harder and the calipers are bigger. But don't compare it with an RS 09, though it stays close.

You don't get all round electric windows in an ST, you don't get climate control as standard in an ST, you don't get electric folding mirrors as standard in an ST, you don't get deadlocking in an ST, you get a Sony stereo with an ST but Seat has a much more premium BOSE sound system like Audi thrown in to the package so I know what I would rather walk away with. A couple of flimsy plastic skirts and spoilers over the equipment? No way.

The Focus ST (T5 engine) came out in 2005 when Seat stopped making the 1.8T Leon Cupra R so you are comparing an older car with newer one. If I compared a 2006 - present Leon II Cupra 2.0 TSi with an old 2.0T Focus Mk1 RS I'm sure I'd find power, materials, quality and finish much better on the 2006 - present Leon in comparison to the Focus Mk1. Wouldn't surprise me.

The old 1.8 20vT 188/210/225 rocks. Can't wait for the new 2.0TSi Cupra R its going to be even better! Its going to blow the doors right off that box shaped Ford ST.

What does the R have more that the standard cupra ? Apart from the different mapping and the s3 intercooler ? Ok, 19'' wheels with no bigger brakes, of 4 pot... is it really worth buying the R ? What is your opinion on this?
It is too bad that SEAT didnt put quattro on the cupraR... or/and stronic. I guess AUDI rules and said f*** off SEAT.

@ClaudioArrau: the R has, to beggin with, 0,4 PSI more turbo pressure, so it's no only a remap. It's not only 25 HP more, it has much more torque and, best, all those who have tested it have said that, in comparison to the normal Cupra, the R has much more instant response to the throttle and much more acceleration. Read the different magazines and take a look. The front and rear suspension is 35%/30% harder and the calipers are bigger. But don't compare it with an RS 09, though it stays close.

Creo que gana el ST , pero vamos que esa prueba influye mucho como ''saques'' el coche ...es dificil apurar la 1ª , porque o sales muerto o te quedas en el sitio quemando rueda.
En teoria deberian andar por el estilo , supuestamente .

@amoulet69 ...And Seats equipment is much better than Fords. You don't get all round electric windows in an ST, you don't get climate control as standard in an ST, you don't get electric folding mirrors as standard in an ST, you don't get deadlocking in an ST, you get a Sony stereo with an ST but Seat has a much more premium BOSE sound system like Audi thrown in to the package so I know what I would rather walk away with. A couple of flimsy plastic skirts and spoilers over the equipment? No way.

@1ns4ne1d10t I rather get a T5 volvo engine than a crappy 1.8 T VW piece of shit, also, the ST is a much better car in terms of handling, power and even materials feel, quality and finish details, I can say this because I have driven both quite some times. Oh btw the equipment u say u dont get as standard in the ST, we actually do get it in Mexico, geez.

@Pavog5gt The 20VT Leon Cupra R came out in 2002 and finished production in 2005. The Focus ST (T5 engine) came out in 2005 when Seat stopped making the 1.8T Leon Cupra R so you are comparing an older car with newer one. If I compared a 2006 - present Leon II Cupra 2.0 TSi with an old 2.0T Focus Mk1 RS I'm sure I'd find power, materials, quality and finish much better on the 2006 - present Leon in comparison to the Focus Mk1. Shuts your arguement up really doesn't it?

@Pavog5gt ...If an older 1998 - 2004 shape of car has more equipment and gadgets then a newer more expensive model from Ford thats one huge step backwards. I just laugh at all the ST drivers who have a 2005 - present Focus and they think its the dogs b*llocks and I have a much older Leon and they don't have half the gadgets and comforts I've got and mines not even a Cupra R. Just shows you how much cars went downhill for your money when the recession kicked in lol.

@1ns4ne1d10t Like I said, you get the full package in the ST, and the one saying the Cupra R in the video had better equipment than the focus was YOU not US, I simply said the Focus had it all and comes with better quality, it actually has better quality than the up to date Cupras FYI, and if u wanted to compare same year models well, there was a Saleen Focus that actually had factory nitrous, how's your fanboyness now?

@Pavog5gt "better quality than the up to date Cupras FYI" thats rich especially as Ford STILL don't anti-rust any of their bodies, don't put gas struts under the bonnets, use thinner sheet metal, use much lower quality bumper plastics and don't sound proof any of the cabins unlike Seat. Its a fact, the older Cupra R does have better equipment than a newer ST. My FR is better equipped then an ST ffs and its not even a Cupra. You don't even get a spare wheel in a Focus... That is very poor lol

Ford also use lower quality driveshafts then Seat, lower quality paintwork, lower quality steering racks, lower quality track rods and wheelbearings, lower quality Delphi parts, lower quality everything just to "Stack em high and sell em cheap" To be able to afford to put in this nitrous Ford would have taken out the aircon, airbag, rear disk brakes, the alarm and just left you with a basic LX model... Wouldn't surprise me.
