Unlike Australia (your home country) the government does not cover most costs - only emergency treatment is available free of charge. The USA healthcare companies also actively try and find loopholes to deny coverage of conditions even if you have insurance - they specifically employ people for this.

I work in the life and health insurance business. The system is broken. As of two years ago, I stopped actively soliciting health insurance business. I'm perfectly happy to solicit: life; disability; long term care insurance; and annuities. Insurance works beautifully in these situations. Health care insurance is really not sustainable. I've been an agent for over 11 years.
