  • it snowed yesterday morning in calgary...in the afternoon the roads were so slippery so i was very careful and very slow riding my bike..and still the wheels went sliding like that...i panicked and got off the bike and got off balanced and my face fell first onto the ground... now my face is bruced but im so glad it was not worse than that...now im thingking of wearing a full face bike helmet....but i have not seen anybody wearing that while riding on flat road

  • Lol bike skating ...

  • use spikes.

    cost: 70-80€

    broken arm: priceless

  • Just use a Bmx bike it's harder to pedal but won't slip as much

    Has wide tires

  • BORN AGIAN LOL

  • In Canada most cyclists just install studded tires.

  • You queers are always complaining! When I was little i didn't ride my bike in the winter! at 16 I was driving a car. Buy a fucken sled and have your boyfriend pull you! Damn I hate cyclists.!

  • exuse me, i have 2 questions please reply :) My friend called florian was tlaking about you ( if your the right guy ) but 1. are you german?? and 2. do you do photography??

  • Greetings to Florian.

And I guess there is no chance any more to leave good first impression...

  • @bike365 do you know florian and his dad? florian pointed you out yet again today, he goes to me theres the photographer, he even has a stronger accent than me please reply

  • First: road clearing is payed from the council tax. Cyclists pay this!

Second: all my family have strong lights, regularily safety checked bikes and ride responsibly obeying the highway code. We wear bright reflective clothing because many car drivers just don't see cyclists and treat them as plonkers.

If you don't want to pay Vehicle excise duty, vat fuel duty... Have you tried cycling?

  • @bike365 That was a great come back buddy.

  • What the nobbin rood are you on about, Simgorm?

Atleast do everyone a favour and check the facts before whining off about MOTs and road tax, LMAO! Also, why would it be the cyclist's obligation to pay extra? I mean we do no damage to the road surface and use our own steam to get from a to be rather than getting fat behind a wheel hahaha!!

Goverments own research shows drivers are 5x more likely to use the roads dangerously or irresponsibly.

  • a to be, or not to be... that is the question.

I do like the point that they complain they have to pay all this, what do they expect... it to be free?

I've put up a tongue in cheek petition to make cars pay a fair price for what they use... cant link here but its - petitions number10 gov uk /CarsToPayFairTax/

(I think maybe Tax isn't the best word here but it's only the url short title).

  • LOL!

I've been trying to get a couple of BBC programs to cover taxation and cars properly for some time. They usually take the poor-little-motorist line and I think thats unhelpful for all. People need to know where, how and why their money is spent

This past year especially theres been a level of "brain washing" going on towards all two wheelers in the media it seems

  • @simgorm

Not another 'cyclists should pay road tax'. NOBODY pays road tax, it doesn't exist! It was abolished in 1937.

Vehicle Excise Duty is a licence to pollute, that also checks you're insured and the vehicle is MoTd.

Roads are paid for out of general taxation, so pedestrians, horse-riders and cyclists pay for the roads too.

Motorists have to pay insurance,. because they're a menace to each other and all other road users. Likewise with vehicle testing. Argue with the statistics.

  • @pseudotruth I was going to do a detailed response but all I can be bothered with is that I hope it really hurts the next time you fall off.

  • Eh? What is that in English, perchance?

  • Yes it was fun to do it with time and for this video. It wasn't fun when I tried to get my daughter to school in time. Especially when I saw her falling.

  • @bike365 walk on the grass, wtf is up with people now, need pampering for everything, man up mate and live with it

  • gotta love the two wheeled two footed powerslide action

  • I agree.

I cycle down Whorral bank very often and have had the same problem.

  • The video response may seem a bit unrelated, but it's there to illustrate a difference in conditions. They salt and grit all the cycle paths here, even many miles out into the countryside. I ride on slick tyres and expect to get around corners without incidents.

  • Well, you are cycling in the Netherlands. The UK is comparatively a cycling developing country. Funds for cycling seem to come out of the pot for road repairs so you can imagine where the money goes...

  • Oh, I do know all about it. I'm British - but in voluntary exile. I used to campaign for better conditions in Cambridge.

None of the unpleasant things that cyclists are used to in the UK happen here at all.

This goes all the way from falling over in winter through white van man shouting abuse and includes road and cycle path design which is both convenient and safe for cyclists.

It's really another world for cyclists.

  • Having gone over on ice and found my body sliding towards a busy junction I now wont cycle if there is ice out. Its one of the few things that scares the bejesus out of me. It also put my back out.

    Good video!

  • you are right, cycling on ice is dangerous and I can understand that you don't cycle in icy conditions. Still I believe that we should lobby to have at least the main cycle ways cleared in winter. And this one is the main one in and out of Morpeth.

For myself I bought some Spikes tyres for the tandem and am trying to get some for the single bikes now. They are a bit difficult to come by in the UK....

  • Wiggle did have some in - the carbide (is it?) spikes rather than the metal spikes, as they wear better apparently... hmm just checked seems they dont do them anymore.

I quite agree though, you should be able to ride in all conditions, and it doesnt encourage people out of their cars. They'll grit the roads near there I'll bet, lol!

Someone also once told me that the road surfacing councils in the uk use doesnt help for ice, either.

    Anyway, good luck!
