  • sweet, love this joint

  • so much soul.......they just dont make 'em like this anymore.......

  • after 4 years on youtube, this is still one of my fav videos!

  • I knew Hall had talent when I saw him with Costello " Not the only flame in town "...

back in the day. Since then his music sometimes has brought me to tears.

  • only Prince and Madonna have this much American artistry

  • Mr. G.E. gettin' it with that '52 telecaster!

  • Genius

  • love love love love

  • Wait, did he say "the little guy"? Haha! It's fine because I guess Mr. Oates doesn't mind the short jokes. AMAZING first solo performance btw. Daryl is one of the best singer/songwriters ever!

  • Wow! Loving your version, I think it's a great song and you do it justice :)

I also just did/uploaded a cover of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" following her death with a gritty HD video, feedback and support would be greatly appreciated. <3

  • @Vi2009 His version of what? It's an original by Daryl Hall. Promoting your video by placing a generic comment on videos with the same title as the ones your targeting makes you look like an idiot. Try promoting your video in a smarter way, in fact, watch the video before you even place you fake comment.

  • hermosa cancion, Daryl Hall canta entregando el alma en muchas de sus canciones, su musica es clasica, no pasa de moda, ojala puedas venir a Viña del mar!!!!

  • This is an old song, but one of their greatest hits. this song is wonderful

  • horrible

  • My God...NO ONE can write or perform a song like Daryl Hall. Now that is definitely a man in touch with his emotions & not afraid to let people know. Love him!!!!

  • one of the best musicians on this planet!!

i'm a fan of him and john oates since the release of the H2O album in 82! I have all the LPs (vinyls) beginning from 1972 with their debut!

me fellow citizens over here in germany never really appreciated his talent the way they should have done - most of them know "Maneater" and "I Can't Go For That" and that's about it - a shame, isn't it?!

  • This guy is special.

  • Born to entertain...

  • Once a year i watch this video, just cause of the epicness of a performance!

i just love how by halfway of the song, his performance inspires the rest of the band to start jaming with passion!

  • Daryl's so fuckin' hot!!!

  • hermosa canción, beautiful!

  • I dream he's singing to me and only me

  • My heart aches when I hear Daryl Hall's voice. Amazing.

  • his voice is the GREATEST

  • J'ignorais qu'il n'appréciait pas le terme "blue eyed soul".. les termes ne sont pas si importants, en fait... Daryl Hall est tout simplement un des meilleurs chanteurs, auteurs et musiciens qui soit..

  • God I wish he was singing about me! What PASSION, man!!!

Oh Daryl, why aren't you mine?!!

  • I enjoy watching this performance. I also enjoy watching Daryl explain to Letterman what the title of the album means......

  • Soul, soul, soul, singer......nailed it! Can't get enough Daryl Hall.

  • How I love this song...Daryl is an amazing singer had the pleasure to see him in concert and meet him and John as well in person.Hall and Oates I love your music.

  • I cannot find this CD anywhere. Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine. Help. This CD was the best. I had the cassette.

  • @42donnamarie Amazon has Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine on cd, and at an amazing price!

  • @42donnamarie If it's any help, simply go to Amazon or eBay and type in the name of the disc. I found a copy for you for $2.42 plus shipping; probably $5 total. Let me know if this helps.

  • @sbrushfan Big help. Thank you. :)

  • Breathtakin! This guy is just a great singer and what a cast of guys to play with Phew!

  • love that song..........was with me during my marriage and during my divorce.........

long nights at the Jersey Shore.......with some booze and cd player......

shit.............H&O forever.........love peace and afro grease

  • It's fun to see their age here...they are so young, but hey I forget that back in 1968 I was younger too, in fact two years different in age.

  • love this song!!

  • When this was broadcast, he returned to do a version of "Foolish Pride." Does anyone have footage of that?

  • Sexy as hell! The song guys...the song;-)!!

  • He is so sexy!

  • Great performance. I love that part at the end when Dave asks him what it's like to be w/out John & Daryl says "It's interesting not to see the little guy standing there." LOL

  • can i respond???? omgdness this song get me in my special area

  • Vintage......sooooo beautiful! Thank you Daryl....

  • omg i so love this song...i listen to it all the time...especillay when i have mr hennessey in the house...

  • Miss Tom T-Bone Wolk.

  • i relate to this song so much ...for i often find myself trying to find someone like my unforgettable Christina .....my heart cries and yearns for this woman .yet she will never know ...i would've given my last breath and last ounce of blood for her ........ and though you are not within arms length .you will always reside in my .Mind .Heart and Soul.......123-4-ever

  • @TrueBlue57291 143.that is .lol

  • Daryl is the whole package... so talented, great voice, great songwriter and musician and sooo damn sexy too.... can't get enough

  • Some songs I can string together in my head as absolutely digging in to the depths of heartbreak and despair...the types of songs that hand you your heart torn and broken and finally forced into the forefront of one's mind no matter how hard we try to fool ourselves. Parallel Lines by Todd Rundgren, Someone Like You Mr Hall, Leaving me Now Level 42, Bonnie Rait singing I Can't Make You Love me.....

  • In Live From Daryl's House, he said this song was dedicated to Janna Allen?? Is it true? T-Bone is young. Daryl is talking afterwards. Thank you for posting!

  • this song has always been self explanitory for me. i settled because the one i wanted was taken

  • Daryl is amazing ! The best musician! nobody like him.

    Thanks for posting this.

He is a whole arist ! love him

  • Daryl Hall-sexy and talented. WOW---SUPER!

  • You know a truly great artist has performed when someone rips your heart out and gives it back to you like Hall does and you love it!

  • Daryl- you give me the chills.....Thank you for all the music!

  • UN TEMA MARAVILLOSO

  • Daryl Hall is so amazing. He's the only singer I know (besides my husband) who sounds just as good (or better) live than on a recording every single time.

  • @Jenni208 I've been to alot of concerts and have yet to see anyone who performs on par with Daryl Hall. Anyone who says that don't like H&O has never seen them, cause when you see H&O/Daryl Hall live you will be a fan forever.

  • RIP Mr. Wolk.

  • when I view videos of Daryl alone or with John and see T Bone, I am sad. I met him in the Denver airport in the security line after attending a Hall and Oates concert in Aug of '09. Who knew. What a nice man. And oh so talented. Daryl must be crushed. RIP, T Bone. J

  • God Speed T-Bone...this world will forever be a better place because of you. Soar high brother!

  • RIP- Tom T-Bone Wolk... I love your tunes forever.

  • RIP T-Bone ...you're a huge reason why I love Hall and Oates since my childhood....you were always just as important and I know Hall and Oates would agree

Thank You for sharing your gifts with the world

  • I love Daryl, always have. Sadly, the bass player in this clip, T-Bone Wolk, passed away on Sunday aged 58. Very sad.

  • back when letterman was cool

  • this performance is magical. he also performed "foolish pride" on this show - does anyone have footage of that?

  • I love Hall and Oates particularly Daryl, but this song was for Sara Allen his longtime love and fellow songwriter. Her sister (also a songwriter) died of cancer. She is alive and friends with Daryl now according to the Internet. Just had to set the record straight. I agree he's one of the best and so is Oates.

  • "only you could ever know, how hard it was for me to let you go". This is a moving song. I absolutely agree with sbrushfan. Take back the Jonas Brothers and their talentless ilk.

  • "I need that romance.. one that grows strong when it's got no chance."

One of my favorite lyrics ever. Incredible song.

  • this song was dedicated to a woman he fell madly in love with , sad to say she passed on from cance r , im realy feeling this song!

  • Sorry for your loss.....

  • Daryl is unbelievable. One of the best singers/performers/musicians of our time. Every time I hear this live version, I turn into this teary eyed fool. Pure emotion.. fantastic stuff.

  • honestly have this deep profound song in my head all week...my cd is somewhere in my apartment...but desparate to hear song now!...and boy it still makes me cry after 2 solid decades! wow! thanks millions$-milwaukee fan

  • Paul Shaffer's band merged with SNL's '80s band. Talk about your supergroups!

  • It doesn't get any better than that. Not on earth, anyway.

    (Deep breath..deep deep breath).

  • le plus merveilleux de Tout les chanteurs, DARYL HALL...

  • What a powerful song.Off his solo album ,Great!!

  • Very powerful song, very powerful delivery. This fellar sings his ass off. You can feel every word he sings. Made me think about writing an old girlfriend who once broke my heart. Felt like telling her about the void she left in my heart.

  • Now your gone away, and I'm left to carry on........

  • it almost looks like he was dancing like micheal jackson

  • uh, ok.

  • i am in love with this man still today!! hes a dream boat! ♥ his voice melts me!!

  • My whole chest is tingling

  • I have to listen to this song every now and then....so beautiful and sexy!

  • Oh my God!!!!!

  • amazing singer...

  • eres demasiado genial!!!! apiadate de los mortales y ven a Chile!!!,,te esperamos por siempre...

    Isabel

  • before its time love is always relevent, what a beauty of sound

  • that black guy in the back cracks me up

nice song though, and a great live performance!

  • The God of soul, anyways.

He's PROOF that soul is colorless, period.

  • Daryl IS God, lol.

MAN OH MAN, what a voice.

  • Went thru my divorce with this song. F--ck the rock and roll hall of shame for not including H&O. Who s in charge morons?

  • i love this song and i love how daryl gets into it i love you!!daryl hall!!

  • This is an insanely good performance.

  • I absolutely love Daryl's emotion in this video. This is by far the best version I have seen. "Emotional Extravaganza" is correct.

  • for those of you that don't know... check out: Live from Daryl's house

  • This version is the best.

  • Now your gone away, and I'm left to carry on.........

  • thanks for posting this, love it, awesome for you to put it up for us..thank you, warmly.

  • Awesome and timeless track, an "Emotional Extravaganza", as Daryl called it on his new website.

  • Gorgeous. I saw Daryl and John live in Phoenix last month and they still sound great!

  • I was there also! They did sound great!

  • someone like you. Debi Ozawa... luv you...

  • Justin Who? Tell him to sit his ass down, and listen to Darryl Hall

  • Exactly. Hall has more emotion, power and SOUL in his left nut than Timberfake has in his entire body. H & O should make a concerted comeback and show these posers the door.

  • I couldn't agree more! :) Where is the passionate music like this today??? Something to make your body rock and your heart melt...

  • @sbrushfan I couldn 't have said it better myself. So TRUE!

  • @sbrushfan Ha,ha i don't see the comparison,However,it's ironic for sure~~Daryl,is still amazing,Justin is merely,slowly forgotten!!!

  • I guess I just remember back in the day when singers like Boz Scaggs, AWB, Michael McDonald and others were so popular and crossed over to R&B. Daryl Hall, had many R&B influences from his time at Temple, he (they with John Oates) had that soulful Philly sound that most white groups were not doing, maybe it was Hall's influence and work with Gamble and Huff, or the R&B groups he sang backup for, either way I'm just glad he is still recording because his voice and talent get better with time.

  • True "blue eyed soul". Daryl Hall's voice so smooth and strong, Hall and Oates puts on a great concert too. I miss artist who like them as a group or Daryl Hall solo who actually have talent and don't have to depend on a producer or a mixer to make them sound good like so much of the crappy stuff that is passed off as music today by the one hit wonders. I found a great anthology CD of Hall and Oates that had their hits plus the solo stuff.

  • Daryl absolutely detests the usuage of the term "blue eyed soul" he has always been vocal about it through the years. He is "The Voice" as I call him1 Thanks Daryl!

  • How could we go on without good music like this

  • Now your gone away, and I'm left to carry on .Miss you my friend 1961-2005

  • this song always makes me think of having back my first true love back, but that's wishful thinking.great song though.

  • One of the most haunting songs I've ever heard. I love you Daryl! I was 9 years old when this song came out, and remember my dad playing it all the time. I've never encountered an artist that resonated with me more deeply than Daryl Hall. Thanks for my favorite music over the course of my entire lifetime!

  • Awesome song. I had this album when it first came out in '86...

  • oh. my. god.

  • Hall & Oates is actually Hall, Oates and Wolk, isnt it?

T-Bone seems to have so much more influence in the Hall& Oates sound than John Oates.

One of their best, albeit unpopular albums Ooh Yeah! was a great amalgamantion of their very best, but unfortunately the album was marred by poor marketing, timing and the under-use of a full BAND sound. The over-use of sequenced sounds deprived the album of that real "feel" it needed.

  • Man, I wish I had this on my iPod...

  • Great! Daryl raises the bar pretty high. No foul singing into auto tune here.

    A brilliant legendary artist.

  • he also did a version of "foolish pride" on this show. does anyone have footage of that? i'd love to see it...

  • thanks for posting this video-one of those forgotten songs that I love. its also on a Hall and Oates vh1 behind the music cd in an acoustic version. its good but not as good as with the electric guitar solo in it! thanks

  • Saw him do this live last month.Crunching.Beautiful

  • This performance is like so magically special, its like one of Jemi Hendrix's performances, just because it's so rare, pure and movin!

  • AMAZING performance!

  • Is there anyone more talented than this man? He and his partner should be in the Hall of Fame......

  • TRUE

  • Awesome!! I am missing the 80's....thats when men were HOT!!! xoxox

  • excus me, lol

  • I saw Daryl Hall at llbeans free concet in freeport maine and he sang this song .. YOU rock DAryl awesome and cute tooo

  • "I need that romance.. one that grows strong when it's got no chance."

One of the best lyrics ever. Great song.

  • this is awesome! thanks for posting this video

  • (by 'unknown' i mean if daryl did the vocals and someone lipped singed it be a number one hit cause it's timeless!)

  • If they had some 'unknown' artist do this song today, it'd be a number one hit! A shame it never got much air time.

  • OMFG is this a soulful song!!!

Sounds even better on their "Starting All Over Again" album in high def!

Im putting this str8 on my makeout mix!

  • Oh thanks so much for posting this video. I have seen both Daryl and John in concert, and they sound so fabulous live. I love this song. Today's music definitely lacks this kind of talent.

  • Awesome!

  • Daryl wrote this for his ex-girlfriens sister who passed.... he was very close to her

  • I would like to thank Lukesfan for posting this great music video on youtube. I haven't heard this song in 10+ years. It unlocks great memorys from my university days. Seeing the live performance of this song is stunning. Watching the band's instruments create this melody is like magic.

  • he also did "foolish pride" on the same show. anybody have the video for that?

  • Always loved this teriffic song. It has very heartfelt & passionate lyrics that I can relate to. Also great to see Daryl re-united with his longtime H&O bandmates: T-bone Wolk on bass & G.E. Smith on guitar (who at the time were in the SNL band).

  • This is a song I wish I'd written...and wish I could sing as well!

  • Must be my fav song. Daryl looks great and that voice! He has the best voice ever. I've been a fan since day 1.

  • wow, he's actually holding an album!

  • daryl...back in the day, y'know, when he still had the street cred

  • This song brings back so many, many good memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Man they could play the tune on a one stringed banjo and DH's voice would still carry the whole song right through it.

I am so glad there are so many of us fans out here! This is a true gem,a clip like this over 20 years old. Wow!

    You Rock Mr Hall

    Is that the whole interview?

  • OOPS! That would be 2002-Novemeber 17--one of my birthday gifts!

  • A friend took me to see H&O in Birmingham in 2202. He was 37 and this was the very first concert he had been to. It was a great concert! We even got there early to watch them exit their bus! I have seen them 3 times since then, and I plan to see them again when they come my way!

  • does anyone know where I can get a copy of this in audio format??

  • Love Daryl's Blue-Eyed Soul! What a beautiful voice and a gorgeous man...

  • man Iam loven this song...just beautiful:)

  • After all these years, looking back at this performance, you gotta wonder why this guy is still not in the R & R Hall of Fame . . . does he know how to nail a song live, or what?

  • Yes I remember "Only A Vision" great ALBUM, yes I had the album, but now have the CD. A great CD, I thinks it's his best as a solo. Man, what a man...Hotter than an August night....

  • Wasn't Born Yesterday from the same album is one of my favs.

Damn he just nails this performance... fantastic

  • Yeah i remember that was a great song. It definitely one of my favorites from 3 hearts, but yeah Daryl really kicks ass in this song!!!

  • see here's some real soul in a live performance, rare.

  • Awesome talent...

  • One of my favorite. This song is maybe the best Daryl Hall song ever.

  • Definitely an incredible song. "What's gonna happen to us" was another favorite from that album.

  • God this is sooo true!!!!

  • Probably my favourite Daryl solo song, I wish he'd still perform it live.

  • great song from a great album

  • One of my favorite songs, it's good to hear it again, his voice is fantastic!

  • Beautiful!

  • So young and so good looking.

Oh Daryl you are the best vocalist of all time to me.

  • hi everyone, i'd like to know if someone have the mp3 of this song, could be so nice to have it. thnx

  • the chorus make me laugh, a little bit gay :p hehehe, is only a joke, anyways i luv this video
