I was at secondary school in the mid 90's and Dimebar (said slowly) was the catch phrase of the day esspecially when doing something dense. Did anyone else reemmber this or was it jsut my school?
@flyingdamingo No; it happened at my school, too. For about the next 6 months, the term "Dime Bar" was a put-down for a dumb person e. g. "You stupid Dime Bar!" An unforeseen consequence of consumer culture.
whys everything in britain got to be playing on peoples accents, all that "toffs and chavs" bullshit, i couldnt give a fuck what "class" people say they are..
@FyberOptyk Because after these adverts 'dime' or 'dime bar' became an instult used to to call someone stupid and people eating dime bars usually became the target for a little playground bullying so the name changed to remove the association from these adverts
i love this, soooo funny, now all we have of dime bars is daim bars, I mean wtf? it the same just they small and come it packs of loads of them and they changed the name for no reason at all, doesn't quite make sense but the adverts will always be classic XD
For the majority of people, they've been known as Daim bars for decades. Some places, such as the UK, used the alternative spelling of Dime, but this was changed in 2005 to match everyone else in Europe. It's still pronounced the same, so it's not as though it's as big a change as the Opal Fruits one, or Marathon bars (which I'm too young to remember).
In the UK we see it completely differently. People got really het up when they changed ariel future to ariel futur, or coco pops to choco krispies just so it was the same as the european market, as it meant the erosion of the English language just so it saves a company money in marketing costs. Funny though when you look at the names of foreign products as an English speaker. Who wants to drink a bottle of Old Fart beer?
6 people don't remember their first Dime.
