I really like this track. At the same time rough and weak. It´s a kind of honest garage rock without samples and overdubs. And they have their roots in the 60s. Another great band from the mid 60s was an unknown band for listeners in UK, USA and Down under. But they were "kings" in Scandinavia. I´m talking about THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah" from 1965. Irresistible f------g good with a bloody "drive".
PICTURE AT 1:00 MAKES EM LOOK LIKE THEYRE ALL SERIAL KILLERS ANYWAYS.....NEVER MIND THE SADIST, ID BE WORRIED ABOUT RUNNING INTO THESE GUYS IN A BACK ALLEY....
@PoisonedV This version is the ORIGINAL version with no overdubs. The version that was on BACK FROM THE GRAVE Vol. 4 is an over-dubbed version where Larry Roquemore added organ and handclaps to the original version and offered that for BFTG4 use, since it was the only version he had at the time. Alec Palao's MAJOR BILL TAPES VOL. 1 came out after BFTG4 and had access to the original session tapes, as did FORT WORTH TEEN SCENE VOL. 1, which also has the original undubbed "Night Of The Sadist".
yep-you're right, goofball, the phantom version was an overdub of the sadist version; this version is superior, but I wish it had the clapping of the"Phantom" version...oh well, la de da de dah ....
The solo/break starting at 1:23 sounds a bit like it's edited on a bit roughly. Am I mistaken, or does anyone else notice it? Maybe my computer's sound sucks, though!

the one on the back to grave CD is different, it has synths/organs and claps and is less 'clean' overall. is this from the vinyl version, or what?
PoisonedV 11 months ago
@PoisonedV This alternative version is from Larry & The Blue Notes LP "60´s Punk, The Major Bill Tapes vol.1.
I also have two different versions on Back From The Grave LP´s.

I think that there are two versions of this song, one uses the word phantom and the other sadist.

..SPECTACULAR SONG...........
...GREAT SOUND........
This song was also known as "Night of the Phantom"!....Think the word "Sadist" was a little too Strong to use, for these Teenage Rebels.
Provocative!...?.....Powerful!..YES..!!

wow, this truly IS the ORIGINAL now isn't it? Sounds a bit less produced than 'phantom' which is always a welcoming occurrence ;-)

This version is good, but I like the other two versions with more echo reverb on the guitar. The saxaphone is a nice suprise.
