Jordan said himself he didnt want to wear the shoe when he first saw it becuase it was the devils colours (which is stupid because he already wore the entire bulls kit which was that colour). and he obviously did start wearing them anyway, and nike were fined loads of money every time he wore them. which gave them lots of publicity, which is partly why they became so popular.
