@darknavar it´s a demonstration asshole, i hope you are trolling because if you really think this is fake and gay you know nothing about martial arts.
Agreed that you don't want to spend an extended amount of time on the ground, but think about it for a minute; there are about 7 MILLION BJJ practioners in Brazil ALONE! So, don't you think that SOME of them have been in street fights? And perhaps, even against more than one foe?? Not saying it's smart to go straight to the ground, just saying that it's a lot more effective than peeps give it credit for on the street. In my opinion of course
@GJJFan Groundwork, Stand Up, Catch Wrestling skills are al simply just facets of what details you need to have to hand to be an effective fighter. As you say - pretty sure some fights have gone to the ground... and without knowing what to do once there - yeah pretty much a FUBAR in any language.
some stand up only schools think groundwork is silly and pointless... you can kick to keep distance and all that....
Yet no-one can answer the question 'what if you fall?'
@1t1o1m1m1i1e nope ur wrong, try the tech the way she instructs and it will work fine. Its not about the centerline of the palm to thumb but more on the opening of the attackers palm from the movement down and then out that helps free u.
Dorothy Darke, the lady instructor in this film married a great grand uncle of mine back in the mid to late 1920s. Wonder what happened to her. She was not looked upon well by the family.
The next time some idiot is intent on beating me by holding on to my wrist I'll listen, but so long as the fact remains that fighting involves getting struck and striking back i will assure you that woman will never be on equal footing, nor a fast and or strongman against a weak one.
If you watch some of the other movies, these self defense movies are intended for when a woman is being grabbed - i.e. having her purse stolen, having someone grab her to try to kiss her, having someone grab her to try to drag her off. Men don't have to worry about that so much and it's not an attempt on the assailant's part to get into a fight, it's an attempt to overpower the woman to do her harm.
LOL, wing chun is among the many styles beat by gracie jujitsu in its old videos. And pure wrestling gave jujitsu fits at that time- infact, a pure wrestler took 4hrs to be defeated, and he didn't know what to do against jujitsu. Also, I have failed to see any real reports on its effectiveness.
Yes you should piss on the source of BJJ to prove it's better then jujitsu. BTW how many BJJ fighters are in the top UFC now ( remember the Gracies started it)?
BJJ is good in a ring, but not on the streets where it's highly likely you'll get attacked by more than one asshole. I don't mean to disrespect it, but I'd rather not be laying on the ground with my legs wrapped around my attacker.
Hitting is easier than grabbing, youd have to reach in the dudes pants and while this has been done in NHB, I doubt its easy. Of course, once the submission in there it would hurt like hell, but you could get out of it by headbutting your opponent I guess. Honestly, I would as a rule stick to keeping distance from you opponent.
@DEdge1221 this is traditional self defence not bjj the traditional is 150% more effective on the street and doesnt make you fall to the ground with throws wrist locks shoulder locks strikes and pressurepoints
@DEdge1221 shes using ju jitsu which is japenese jiu jitsu which has standing self defense techniques like eye gouging neck snaping and arm breaks along with knee breaks all of which bjj doesnt have
@THEPIELORD42 I am assuming you've never trained BJJ?? Because there are a LOT of standing techniques, like arm breaks(one of Helio's favorite is a standing arm break if someone grabs you from the front), eye attacks (really though, ANYbody can just poke an eye LOL but yes, techniques to strike as well) and knee bars and knee breaks from when you are grabbed from behind as well. So, it DOES have standing techniques. It's just that most people only see the ground portion in MMA, but it's there.
@kevinchris I've trained at a few. And apparently some that cared about self defense, and not just MMA/Sport style. Why should it matter? Just the fact that I HAVE done more than just BJJ. BUT, ANY style should try to be as rounded as possible. Why do you laugh at that? Attacks to the eyes can be great distractions, impairments and "time buyers" for you to protect yourself. They can be quite effective, even if the opportunity to do so may not present itself as easily as a lick to the leg, etc
@GJJFan I've just never trained at a BJJ club, or any club, that taught people eye attacks. But then again, I havn't trained in karate or anything like that since i was a little kid.
@kevinchris I can totally understand that. SO many have gone to the sportive aspect of the arts. Even MMA/Cage Fighting is STILL a sport style. Even IF it is a bit more of a realistic "sportive" style for self defense and ring savvy. It is troubling how many focus on producing "Modern Gladiators" for the MMA/Fight Scene, instead of training EVERYDAY people to learn how to survivie an unguarded, noone else around to help or stop it, kind of situation. I'm one for self defense FIRST, sport second
@DEdge1221 Um dude this is Ju-Jitsu not BJJ, im sorry but you got it all wrong, Traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu is about 50-50 in stand-up against ground.
@DEdge1221 True. But the more BJJ you know, the better you will be at fighting, regardless if its in a ring, on the mat , or the street. If you use the apropriate BJJ techniques in a street fight correctly, it is more than enough to win. Of course a good old punch to the face is never a bad idea either.
@DEdge1221 You have no clue what yor talking about. If your in a street fight and attacked by multiple opponents and you get knocked down and you cant escape fast your screwed. BJJ shows you how to escape. BTW you dont always go to the ground when your choking someone. But if your fighting too many guys unless your a huge guy, then no matter what art you know your screwed anyways.
@DEdge1221 I'll say the same thing I always say. BJJ is not about pulling guard in EVERY situation. In the scenario you described, I would use my BJJ to keep the other guy from taking me down. Knowing BJJ helps you control the position of the fight. If you don't want to go to the ground, you should learn BJJ, wrestling, Judo, or all. It will help. And in the worst case scenario you can get back to your feet, or reverse the situation. Knowing grappling gives you more options, in every situation.
