The problem of the Commonwealth was it's geographical position, always surrounded by enemies. Had the commonwealth been an island like England it would be alive 'til this day.
Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering"... profesor Wolniewicz zresztą też to opisał nieźle w książce "Ksenofobia i wspólnota"... Pozdrawiam
Our cooperation With Lithuanians was awesome:Together we were so fucking powerfull, and also had Culture that was CLOSEST to MODERN DEMOCRACY,as we had Freedom of Religion, etc.Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth was an awesome Country.
And what the Lithuanian contribution for that? None, thier elites wanted to unite just becouse in Poland it was like that.
As for the power it was even worse, Poland had to protect Lithuania all the time, invest its resources in developement of that country and never could rely on thier army.
@PvPcleric Sure. Tell me wiseguy, what did Poland ever get in this union? Rusin territory with greedy magnates and rebellous Cossacs, wars with Moscow, Crimea, Turkey...
@PvPcleric I`ve asked a question, what did Poland get in this union? The lack of answer is a kind of proof it got nothing, or it`s your knowladge what`s lacking. Answer, or keep your mouth shut.
@MaximusProteus you probly to sutipid to understand the main reason of this union. if we would not made this unioun its a big question if lithuania and poland would survived the wars. with each over help we made super power in europe we even expended our lands and political power, if not this union god knows how things would ended.
@PvPcleric I don`t care what a troll thinks about me.
The only benefit for Poland was that the Teutons didn`t grew too strong. Lithuania wouldn`t survive that, as well the wars with Moscow, but why should we care? It was not a mutual help, Lithuania did nothing in 13 years war, in th wars against Turkey, Cossac rebels and when it was overrun by Sweden it even betrayed the union and broke it.... Than we had to kick the Cossacs and Muscovites out of it, again. Lithuania was weak.
@MaximusProteus you would get ass raped by all sides the union was a must for both sides thats why it was made, not cus poland and lithuania was "best friends" and poland accpeted just for lols, things was ALOT more complicated and it was best solution for both sides. i cba to write u whole history go read it on internet its tons of inoformation.
@PvPcleric Which sides? Poland could fight Teutons alone, but not them with Lithuania. Moscow was far away and not our problem, but every time it was attacking we had to help and when Lithuania helped us? What kind of interest had Poland in some Samogitia, Smolensk, Kiev or Livonia? We should care for Silesia and Pommerania which we lost, not for what Lithuania was loosing... Thier nobles just wanted the privillages ours had, wanted to be "polonised" and now we`r hated becouse of that
@MaximusProteus haha we gave you your greatest dinasty our Grand Duke Jogaila who became you King accomplished all he promised to do for Poland while treating Lithuania fairly and he is the only King I respect that ruled both nations as took care of them both equally and wanted Lithuania to have independence you could not defeat the Teotons that why you came to us asking for help.
I think that this disagreements between Lithuania and Poland is inspired by Moscow... I like polish people as much as lithuanian, i think of polish people as cousins :) Lets stop this crazy disagreements and concentrate on firendship, as it was for 500 years in the commonwealth.
@makasiukas Tu gal istorija nesidomi?
@makasiukas It`s good point because when Poland and Lithuania has Commonweath Russia has Times of troubles. We was a pain in Russian ass for centuries .... In cooperation We was stronger in this region, devided We are weak... Who deny this?
@licicaviki no one, at that time we defended free will, freedom of religion and democracy from Russias agressive imperialism. Cooperation should be remembered now to :)
@toisver wtf are you talking bout?? our greatest kings, leaders and artists was lithuanians,im "fucking" polish and i dont feel pity bout that, more than that,im fucking proud of that, pozdro -.-
@toisver wtf are you talking bout?? our greatest kings, leaders and artists was lithuanians,im "fucking" polish and i dont feel pity bout that, more than that,im fucking proud of that, pozdro -.-
@toisver wtf are you talking bout?? our greatest kings, leaders and artists was lithuanians,im "fucking" polish and i dont feel pity bout that, more than that,im fucking proud of that, pozdro -.-
In that time "Lithuania" meant "Belarus". GDL was a Slavic state, and that makes Belarus the true Lithuania, (a truth, which some Samogitians cannot stand).
@khulik count influential noble families and you will see that most of them were polonised ethnic Lithuanians. secondly modern day Lithuania always was a centre of GDL. And lastly its stupid to argue about it because gdl was a country only until union of Lubin.
P.S. Belarus cannot be successor of gdl because it had nothing to do with creating the state, only think belarus can call it self is "side effect of gdl" not "successor"
What means "ethnic Lithuanian", "ethnic Pole", etc.?
Noble families had in ass who was their ancestors.
"secondly modern day Lithuania always was a centre of GDL"-exept Wilno-show important cultural centres in GDL.
"Belarus cannot be successor of gdl because it had nothing to do with creating the state"-with creating not. With all history-it's more important than Lithuania without Wilno. Don't you know, that even Poland can be succesor of GDL?
@khulik Żmudź łac. Samogitia, żmudz. Žemaitėjė, lit. Žemaitija-i don't understand nationalists from Lithuania . I don't want understand nationalists from Poland and others Country's of Commonwelth . Ther are atack in our nations and our history . Nationalisms is a lie. Long live a member of Res Publica .
Poles lost I RP and II RP too, because they wanted to help others (II RP too, although end of it was provoked by conflict about Gdańsk, Poznań and Bydgoszcz). How many countries more we will lost before we start thinking like nationalists?
@1000razyja Well poland is where it is only because it was unified with Lithuania in the middle ages. Its lithuania who defended them from the muscovite tzardom and the novgorodians and the mongols and the krimean chanate and the livonian order and the teutons. So how about we admit that without that commonwealth - either countries would not exist.
Polish imperialism in Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and elsewhere was like imperialism and colonialism everywhere--just glorified theft and exploitation by Polish criminal family "aristocracy" and their colonial agents.
Belarusans, Lithuanians, Ukrainian like other colonized people have exercised their right to self-determination and decided to be independent and free of Polish imperial overlords.
If you like to see the situation of Lituanian minority in Poland please come - shops with double names, double name of city, monument with only Lithuania name in the centre of Punsk etc - all matters are fulfilled according to agreement signed in 1994
End - My father left Wilno in 1957 and I have still family there.
(nobody may say - Polish minority has the best rules - see their schools they can use Polish - it's not true these schools were opened before your independance - nothing was added) Are we in modern EU or somewhere in other continent ?
Last Eight - sorry to say, all parts are true except countries (instead of East Prussia use Lithuania, instead of Lithuania use Poland)
I do hope it's not too late but I believe Lituanian citizen will be more opened for facts (not propaganda). Wilno / Vilnius is Lithuanin but there are also people who would like to protect own culture, language etc. It's not their fault to be borned there. Similar minorities are in different countries see Swedish 7 % in Finland. See their regulation.
@swoj2011 believe me poles have the most rights in Lithuania we also have jews ,tatars ,russians none of them sais that Lithuania belongs to them. and when poland occupated Vilnius there was 60 % of jews and 40 % of poles and 90 % of poles speaks russian these days . all those signs at cemetery has lithuanian names because rusians didnt let them use lithuanian alphabet so they used polish instead . you are just brainwashed by media
Sorry it not true I visited some places near Wilno/Vilnius tree weeks ago so do't tell me that my opinion is created by media - old names in Soleczniki / Turgiele / Ejszyszki are in Polish. You can say Polish people speaks Russian - depends where - my family speaks Polish - my aunt, uncle and their children communicated with myself in Polish with some "old Polish words not used anymore in Poland"
I didn't say Lithuania belongs to Poland. Only what I would like to see is the same rights for Polish minority as is offered for Lithuanian minority in noth-east Poland - nothing else ! Nobody would like to change any border - Vilnius is Lithuanian but there are also minorities living there for generations with their human and manority rights.
@swoj2011 who told you that they have no rights here? :D they have the same rights ! like i said before stop believing what media says and all your magazines
Why are you not checking Lithuanian minority rights in Poland ?
Are they able to write own name/surname in ID/passport using Polish letter like W or combination cz, rz etc ? Are you able to use double names of village , street or on shops, busses ?
Why they will have no more chance (after new introduced education act) to pass last exam in Polish ? Why minority reprasentatives has no direct access to Parliament (they need to have votes above minimum level) ?
@swoj2011 I checked them they can only use their name on grave , yes there is double street , shops names , they have their polish name on the second page of pasport and sorry we dont have w in our alphabet or ohter phrazes . why do they need a polish exam ? if they live in Lithuania? why lithuanians have polish exam if they live in Poland? I cant even say whats wrong with me happened to me to the polish ambulance or police , thats why they did that , if poles knew main languageItWouldntHappen
When I was recently in Lithuania I haven't seen any double names of city/village/bus or street. Moreover if Polish one is visable penalty must be paid. They need Polish exam exactly why Lithuanian minority need it in Poland - it should depends on them to have higher level of language knowing. I heard Lithuanian young children need it for further work or study in Lithuania. Maybe the same is regarding Polish chilrden in Lithuania. As I said it's their choice.
As you know both young generation of minorities knows official language very well so high level of additional language is value added for further live. Additionally in new education act is point - when in small village/city will be not enough children ONLY Lithuanian school will remain ! What that means - only Polish schools will be closed acc. to official governmant act. Lithuanian local schools in Poland are protected and handled by local communities nothing is forced by Warsaw
I didn't say they have no right - they have to have some rights because Lithuania is in EU. Minority rights confirmed and signed by Brazauskas/Walesa in 1994 are not settled/fullfilled by Lithuanian governmant and Parliament for last 17 years ! Even Lithuanian Įstatymas regarding minority was cancelled after joining EU and nobody knows when new one will be published !
Your politician are attacked and when they said - "we lived here for hundred years - see our old cementary" the answer is "if you don't like go to Lithuania or use your original name on grave only". Marches in capital against minority is growing every year but now also new nazi symbols are seen/rised. Prominental politicians are present as well. Finally Foreign Affair of Lithuania is chosen by German press - he is responsible for present "worst" reletions between our countries.
Part six - New rules means that Lituanian school will be closed as the first one and German school will remain as the only one in small city or village. Newspapers and forals like on one letter F everyday is presenting not true against minority - young people know German very well byt old people doesn't know German because they were occupied for last 50 years and German was not used in this region. Young minority people are treated like traitor, HitlerJugend or 5th column!
Part five - Finally Lituanian people (also authorities) from other side of the border have more clear view of intention . Letters are sent to EU etc. German governmant is prepering modification of school system. President of Germany is telling that will not sign any document which may changed status quo and after two weeks is signing the same document (petition of 60.000 Lituanian is nothing). You cannot learn anymore history, geography etc in own language. Main final exam must be in German!
Part four - Own minority party is established but cannot win - borders of voting regions are changed to mix population with Germans. Only few seats are available. Only one minority member of EU arised question in Brussel - minority right are broken. Imeddiately German ultra leader said - he is working against our country ! You show flags or forbiden names as it is in other countries but only penalties are received.
Part three - Lituanian authorities questions regarding minority are all the time ignored by Germans. Instead new German schools are opened everywhere especially inside minority area. Own land is slowly sold to new setters from Germany or there are opened supermarker. Local Courts said it is according to new low and cannot be changed. Families have different surnames without some letters accoring to German low. You resist but German language must be protected acc. to new regulation.
Part two - Klaipeda is named Memel and after short time Lituanian citizen cannot use any old names(surnames, streets etc). Your main poets, artists has now changed names into German way. You insist - they lived here and spoken Lituanian - answer is no they are Germans but Lituanized for centuries. East Prussia is still suppored by Lithuania is joining different organization, Presidents are friends, meetings every month. After few years situation slowly changed.
Part one - To Lithuanian people - I would like to explain you present situation of Polish minority on following hipotethical example :
year 1990 East Prussia as old commonwealtd partner of Lithuania is borned again as Independent country - Lithuania is supporting strongly however borders many years ago changed and Klaipeda is now part of East Prussia (Germany) with Lithuanian minority. In 1994 is signed bilateral agreement whereof all matters concering minorities are clear.
I have a question: what does the man mean when he says that in the grand dutchy of lithuania people spoke "Ruskie" or also nown as lithuanian, now days called old belarusian?? I mean lithuanians spoke lithuanian , and I speak lithuanian so what the hell "Ruskie", could please some one tell me? thanks
@angeliukaslips it means in grand duchy official language was old belarusian and lithuanian language was spoken only in modern day lithuania and it wasnt official language
@angeliukaslips before wasnt lithuanian nows as now. before was RUSKI not ROSYJSKI, Ruski its language wery similar to Polish. Todays belaruski is almost like od ruski.
nevermind. Lihuania and Poland shared hundreds of years of allience and merely 20 years of war. Today Lithuiania is quite a small nation, trying to survive, simple as that. I have heard quite a lot of Polish attitude about Lithuanians: "chlopy". Yet, anyways, I believe that both countries never had a better ally. than each other. Let's not forget we are brothers. Greetings to you from Lithuania.
Oh you're very much mistaken ;) we think very highly of Lithuanians and our hundreds of years together! It's true though that we are sick of Lithuanians that twist Polish names. Mickiewicz was a citizen of Commonwealth. We should live it that way. I'd like to see in my life time a Commonwealth of 4 nations (Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine). Greetings.
@Rupertass It's not about the peasants. Some people in Poland think that today Lithuania is Žemaitija and Belarusians speak the language comes from the "Ruski", the official language of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, so it's Belarusians they consider to be the heirs of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.Besides, before 1939 in Vilna lived probably around 50-60% of Poles, Ruthenians 10-30% and 3% of Lithuanians
Then, it's not about Lithuanians and Poles, it's about mere comprehension, isn' i'? Besides:) Vilnius "before 1939" indeed was mostly inhabited by non-Lithuanian population, mostly due to the plague and fire that preceeded. Anyway, I still refuse to understand, why this should bother both Lithuanians or Poles today? I consider Poles to be our friends, despite anything that was wrong in our past. Czy nie jest tak brata?
@Rupertass: What is wrong with you people? I've never heard anybody in Poland saying "chlopy" in relation to Lithuanian People. Nobody wants to polonize either Ukraine, Lithuania. Instead talking rubbish we should focus on what is ever-growing danger near our east and west boarders: Russia and Germany. Such nationalist rubbish resentments play well into their interests: which is to keep this part of Europe divided and rule it...
@sarthran20101978 What about: "Polak - pan, a Litwin - cham"?:) Just kidding. I vote both hands to most of the things You've said. That is exactly what I've said in each and every case like that: were're brothers. As much today as 300 years ago.
Im Pole and I hear this slogan first time in my life.
Ukrainians, Belarusans and probably Lithuanians hate Poland for its nobiles but they forgot most of nobiles on this land was not polish ethnically. They spoke polish, some of them were catholics, but they were not Poles by blood. Czartoryscy, Radziwiłowie, Sapiehowie (came of Semen - does it sound polish?) were Lithuanian origin but poloinized. Maybe your slogan came from it.
As I have said, nevermind. If the Lithuanians are anti-Polish, then it's hard for me to be Lithuanian. The most important thing is - let us not be moscovites like and and let us not put minor things above the major. T'was a grand state we all had, t'ere grand nations we have today.
D'you live in Poland? I'd gladly welcome You in "the land of heroes". Then we'll see who's anti-Polish:)
I read your comments from 1 month ago. You said it very simply and went directly to the point. Well done. I am of Polish descent and have never thought ill of Lithuanians or OUR achievement together. My parents came from Eastern Poland (Kersey) and like you am proud of my heritage. Be it Polish/Ukrainian/Jewish/Belorussian/Lithuanian mixed blood. My parents were proud Poles and always respected out heritage.
Stop bickering like little children over our past.
Well, I’m not really sure as to the reasons for the union. I can only assume that Poland recognized the threat from the Teutonic Knights and the Holy Roman Empire (Germany). Every year the Teutonic Order was getting stronger and wealthier, directly supported by the Holy Roman Empire, at the expense of Poland, Baltic Tribes and Lithuania. Poland and Polish nobility knew that they were too weak to stand up directly to Rome and the church in open conflict.
-- continued ** Poland needed support and strength, and Lithuania fit the bill nicely. Lithuania also saw the writing on the wall and knew that in time she was next and would become part of the Holy Roman Empire. Fear makes strange bed fellows. This was a marriage of convenience for both parties. Together the Polish/Lithuanian union gave them the Wealth, Strength and Might to stand up to the Teutonic order and Germany.
Of course the nobility of both Poland and Lithuania prospered and grew wealthy. Why else would two nations stay united for so long? Greed and convenience. Of course the average Polish or Lithuanian peasant didn’t benefit too much, other then keeping his national identity, and some peace in his own homeland.
We should be proud in what this Union accomplished throughout its existence. It took 3 European powers to bring her down. Now the 2 bicker and blame each other over petty B.S.
i'll put this in english so everybody understands. in this video, the guy explains how lithuania and poland became one, forwarding ideals, freedoms, that none at the time had the bravery to do, hence COMMONWEALTH.
now in the comments we have bickering of children who want to proclaim superiority over the internet. tell me this, how more contradictory and more off topic can you get?
the point is that all lithuanians and polish should be proud to have ancestors that made the commonwealth.
Dobry film wideo. Interesujące. Niech żyje monarchii polsko-litewskiej. Niech żyje tolerancyjnych tradycji katolickiej w królestwie polskim.dla nas wszystkich przykładem. Jestem historykiem.
a żydami. Wielokrotnie ta wielonarodowość była właśnie głównym powodem sporów, walk wewnętrznych, podziałów i upadków, braku jednolitego myślenia, wspólnego działania ku dobry wspólnym itd.
Unia to coś kompletnie innego.
And if we want to talk about polish speaking minority in lithuania, we can. I think there are 2 biggest issues, 1 adding extra subjects in lithuanian language in polish schools(1 or 2) and 2 problem that untill now polish speakers had easier lithuanian language exam compare to other people, which going to be removed. Well about having easier exam its wrong coz it discrimination. And reason for extra lithuanian, coz people later have very difficult time lets say even to get jobs without language.
@Araszi1 bulshit. I Rzeczpospolita callapsed because of war with Sweden , Russia nad uprising in Ukraine at the same time. If Poland wasn't a democracy it would'n change anything. You're victim of propaganda of the II Rzeczpospolita - at this time the polticians need a reason to excuse themself for notdemocratic behavior. II Rzeczpospolita wasn't democracy and what ? Hasn't been destroyed ? Only one different is I RP died in a glory , II RP in shame - with main army commaner escaping to Romania.
We always think that we something worse than the west. This film shows that in XVI century Poland and Lithuania was at least 200 years before the rest of the world (at least in case of demokracy).
It's sad that 200 years ater callapse of that commonwealth , some Poles and Lithuanians hate , or just don't like each other. I'm a Pole and I'm proud of that period in our history.
For time between 1918 - 1939 I'm proud much less. I think , Piłsudski did as many good as bad things for Poland. In 1918 He was like George Washington , but later - in 1926 in fact he destroyed democracy in Poland and created fatal political system what was one of the reasons of catastrophy in 1939.
No to teraz zaserwuję coś od Mickiewicza (o, przepraszam - według waszych "patriotów" spolonizowanego litwina Mickieviciusa):
"Skąd wracali Litwini? Litwini z nocnej wracali wycieczki, wieźli łupy bogate, w zamkach i cerkwiach zdobyte"
Konrad Wallenrod
@Polish607 Fighting for Wehrmacht was a form of resistance against bloody red scums, many traitors from Lithuanian government refused to resist to them earlier when reds arrived, so the situation was messy, partisan war couldn't have started at 1940, that would be impossible, but we woke up at 1944 and had a two times longer war with reds than the second world war was.
@Polish607 With the help of Lithuania. We also smashed the Golden Horde at 1362 and if not Grand Duchy of Lithuania geopolitical situation, they would smash poland and go further in Europe. We also smashed and kicked out bloody bolsheviks at 1920 plus we had to resist to Bermontians and Poles which all would be successful if not Europes hand.
"We also smashed and kicked out bloody bolsheviks at 1920 plus"
This is not lie. THIS IS A SLANDER!
You in 1920 were allies of Bolsheviks and enemies of Poland. If not Piłsudski which you hate so much, Dmowski would annex all Lithuania and polonise it. You think you would be not polonised? They would kill anybdy who didn't want to be Pole. Believe me, Piłsudski's polonisation was nothing in compare to lithuanizing Kowno and Dmowski's polonistion type (ethnic cleaning).
I'm sorry, but do you have any argument, why am I ridiculus? :) Because this what you told about Lithuania kicking Bolschevik asses made me laugh. Really.
If you deny, that in 1920 Lithuania was friend of Russia and enemy of Poland, you are denying historical facts.
The problem of the Commonwealth was it's geographical position, always surrounded by enemies. Had the commonwealth been an island like England it would be alive 'til this day.

@SiegmundHildebrand
And what the Lithuanian contribution for that? None, thier elites wanted to unite just becouse in Poland it was like that.
As for the power it was even worse, Poland had to protect Lithuania all the time, invest its resources in developement of that country and never could rely on thier army.

Lithuania only made Poland weaker.

MaximusProteus 1 month ago
@MaximusProteus you probly to sutipid to understand the main reason of this union. if we would not made this unioun its a big question if lithuania and poland would survived the wars. with each over help we made super power in europe we even expended our lands and political power, if not this union god knows how things would ended.
PvPcleric 1 month ago
@PvPcleric I don`t care what a troll thinks about me.
The only benefit for Poland was that the Teutons didn`t grew too strong. Lithuania wouldn`t survive that, as well the wars with Moscow, but why should we care? It was not a mutual help, Lithuania did nothing in 13 years war, in th wars against Turkey, Cossac rebels and when it was overrun by Sweden it even betrayed the union and broke it.... Than we had to kick the Cossacs and Muscovites out of it, again. Lithuania was weak.
MaximusProteus 1 month ago
@MaximusProteus you would get ass raped by all sides the union was a must for both sides thats why it was made, not cus poland and lithuania was "best friends" and poland accpeted just for lols, things was ALOT more complicated and it was best solution for both sides. i cba to write u whole history go read it on internet its tons of inoformation.
PvPcleric 1 month ago
@PvPcleric Which sides? Poland could fight Teutons alone, but not them with Lithuania. Moscow was far away and not our problem, but every time it was attacking we had to help and when Lithuania helped us? What kind of interest had Poland in some Samogitia, Smolensk, Kiev or Livonia? We should care for Silesia and Pommerania which we lost, not for what Lithuania was loosing... Thier nobles just wanted the privillages ours had, wanted to be "polonised" and now we`r hated becouse of that

khulik 7 months ago
@khulik count influential noble families and you will see that most of them were polonised ethnic Lithuanians. secondly modern day Lithuania always was a centre of GDL. And lastly its stupid to argue about it because gdl was a country only until union of Lubin.
P.S. Belarus cannot be successor of gdl because it had nothing to do with creating the state, only think belarus can call it self is "side effect of gdl" not "successor"

See their regulation.
swoj2011 9 months ago
@swoj2011 believe me poles have the most rights in Lithuania we also have jews ,tatars ,russians none of them sais that Lithuania belongs to them. and when poland occupated Vilnius there was 60 % of jews and 40 % of poles and 90 % of poles speaks russian these days . all those signs at cemetery has lithuanian names because rusians didnt let them use lithuanian alphabet so they used polish instead . you are just brainwashed by media
LoveeDaisy 8 months ago
@LoveeDaisy
Sorry it not true I visited some places near Wilno/Vilnius tree weeks ago so do't tell me that my opinion is created by media - old names in Soleczniki / Turgiele / Ejszyszki are in Polish. You can say Polish people speaks Russian - depends where - my family speaks Polish - my aunt, uncle and their children communicated with myself in Polish with some "old Polish words not used anymore in Poland"
swoj2011 8 months ago
@LoveeDaisy
I didn't say Lithuania belongs to Poland. Only what I would like to see is the same rights for Polish minority as is offered for Lithuanian minority in noth-east Poland - nothing else ! Nobody would like to change any border - Vilnius is Lithuanian but there are also minorities living there for generations with their human and manority rights.
swoj2011 8 months ago
@swoj2011 who told you that they have no rights here? :D they have the same rights ! like i said before stop believing what media says and all your magazines
LoveeDaisy 8 months ago
@LoveeDaisy
Why minority reprasentatives has no direct access to Parliament (they need to have votes above minimum level) ?
swoj2011 8 months ago
@swoj2011 I checked them they can only use their name on grave , yes there is double street , shops names , they have their polish name on the second page of pasport and sorry we dont have w in our alphabet or ohter phrazes . why do they need a polish exam ? if they live in Lithuania? why lithuanians have polish exam if they live in Poland? I cant even say whats wrong with me happened to me to the polish ambulance or police , thats why they did that , if poles knew main languageItWouldntHappen
LoveeDaisy 8 months ago
@LoveeDaisy
As I said it's their choice.
swoj2011 8 months ago
@LoveeDaisy
As you know both young generation of minorities knows official language very well so high level of additional language is value added for further live. Additionally in new education act is point - when in small village/city will be not enough children ONLY Lithuanian school will remain ! What that means - only Polish schools will be closed acc. to official governmant act. Lithuanian local schools in Poland are protected and handled by local communities nothing is forced by Warsaw
swoj2011 8 months ago
@swoj2011
I didn't say they have no right - they have to have some rights because Lithuania is in EU. Minority rights confirmed and signed by Brazauskas/Walesa in 1994 are not settled/fullfilled by Lithuanian governmant and Parliament for last 17 years ! Even Lithuanian Įstatymas regarding minority was cancelled after joining EU and nobody knows when new one will be published !
swoj2011 8 months ago
Your politician are attacked and when they said - "we lived here for hundred years - see our old cementary" the answer is "if you don't like go to Lithuania or use your original name on grave only". Marches in capital against minority is growing every year but now also new nazi symbols are seen/rised. Prominental politicians are present as well. Finally Foreign Affair of Lithuania is chosen by German press - he is responsible for present "worst" reletions between our countries.
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part six - New rules means that Lituanian school will be closed as the first one and German school will remain as the only one in small city or village. Newspapers and forals like on one letter F everyday is presenting not true against minority - young people know German very well byt old people doesn't know German because they were occupied for last 50 years and German was not used in this region. Young minority people are treated like traitor, HitlerJugend or 5th column!
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part five - Finally Lituanian people (also authorities) from other side of the border have more clear view of intention . Letters are sent to EU etc. German governmant is prepering modification of school system. President of Germany is telling that will not sign any document which may changed status quo and after two weeks is signing the same document (petition of 60.000 Lituanian is nothing). You cannot learn anymore history, geography etc in own language. Main final exam must be in German!
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part four - Own minority party is established but cannot win - borders of voting regions are changed to mix population with Germans. Only few seats are available. Only one minority member of EU arised question in Brussel - minority right are broken. Imeddiately German ultra leader said - he is working against our country ! You show flags or forbiden names as it is in other countries but only penalties are received.
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part three - Lituanian authorities questions regarding minority are all the time ignored by Germans. Instead new German schools are opened everywhere especially inside minority area. Own land is slowly sold to new setters from Germany or there are opened supermarker. Local Courts said it is according to new low and cannot be changed. Families have different surnames without some letters accoring to German low. You resist but German language must be protected acc. to new regulation.
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part two - Klaipeda is named Memel and after short time Lituanian citizen cannot use any old names(surnames, streets etc). Your main poets, artists has now changed names into German way. You insist - they lived here and spoken Lituanian - answer is no they are Germans but Lituanized for centuries. East Prussia is still suppored by Lithuania is joining different organization, Presidents are friends, meetings every month. After few years situation slowly changed.
swoj2011 9 months ago
Part one - To Lithuanian people - I would like to explain you present situation of Polish minority on following hipotethical example :
year 1990 East Prussia as old commonwealtd partner of Lithuania is borned again as Independent country - Lithuania is supporting strongly however borders many years ago changed and Klaipeda is now part of East Prussia (Germany) with Lithuanian minority. In 1994 is signed bilateral agreement whereof all matters concering minorities are clear.

nevermind. Lihuania and Poland shared hundreds of years of allience and merely 20 years of war. Today Lithuiania is quite a small nation, trying to survive, simple as that. Marshal2909 11 months ago
ZjawaIX 10 months ago
@ZjawaIX Sorry for poor English :)
ZjawaIX 10 months ago
@ZjawaIX

If only we could unite again...

@chlopakzpolski

PLEASE

@ArcherWook thanks, it seems these people, our ancestors, chose to look at the bigger picture of a commonwealth.
zygis16 10 months ago
@zygis16
** Continued **
ArcherWook 10 months ago
@zygis16
ArcherWook 10 months ago
@zygis16
ArcherWook 10 months ago
i'll put this in english so everybody understands. in this video, the guy explains how lithuania and poland became one, forwarding ideals, freedoms, that none at the time had the bravery to do, hence COMMONWEALTH.
now in the comments we have bickering of children who want to proclaim superiority over the internet. tell me this, how more contradictory and more off topic can you get?
the point is that all lithuanians and polish should be proud to have ancestors that made the commonwealth.

11 wrzesnia 2001 roku - dziń ataku na WTC byłem w w Chicago. Nastepnego dnia policja otoczyła muzułmański osrodek w centrum miasta w obawie przed jakimis ekscesami.

Only one different is I RP died in a glory , II RP in shame - with main army commaner escaping to Romania.
panamarcina 1 year ago
We always think that we something worse than the west. This film shows that in XVI century Poland and Lithuania was at least 200 years before the rest of the world (at least in case of demokracy).
panamarcina 1 year ago
It's sad that 200 years ater callapse of that commonwealth , some Poles and Lithuanians hate , or just don't like each other. I'm a Pole and I'm proud of that period in our history.
For time between 1918 - 1939 I'm proud much less. I think , Piłsudski did as many good as bad things for Poland. In 1918 He was like George Washington , but later - in 1926 in fact he destroyed democracy in Poland and created fatal political system what was one of the reasons of catastrophy in 1939.

ursusplacidus 1 year ago
ursusplacidus 1 year ago
ursusplacidus 1 year ago
