aside from hearing the capabilities of the pedals, Andy busts out a wide array of famous and amazing rock riffs. Fly By Night and Paradise City for example! Keep rocking!
Here's a little tip, the adjustment knob can be used as an attenuator . I play on a 20 watt amp, and with the volume at 25% I use the modified section. When I crank the volume I flip the switch to Classic and get the same tone.
@MrSeanmor not by itself, unless you are doing more of Post-metal then you can use it but try to combine it with other effects to make a heavy but clear metal riffage
@Musicunseen95 This probably isn't much help, but I use a ProCo Rat and love it. The rhythm guitarist in my band uses the CM-2 and it sounds pretty good too. The Tubescreamer is a classic and is really nice too. I don't know much about Fulltone tho, so no opinon on that one. But if it was my choice, I'd go with the ProCo Rat any day of the week. Good luck!
@Musicunseen95 I've got a CM-2 and absolutely love it, so much so that I've considered getting another for the 'classic' setting to use for my rhythm as the fender super reverbs don't have an overdrive channel. I've also just borrowed a Robert Keeley modded tubescreamer, and I'm not a huge fan. I haven't had any experience with the OCD though.
@Musicunseen95 I had the same issue, I ended up getting the CM-2 because it was more versitile than the other pedals. If all you want is the OCD tone than you may be happier with the OCD. I wanted the OCD tone but I needed other stuff for a cover band. I get OCD and a lot more out of the CM-2 and my Twin Reverb. I am not the best player but I know what good tone is.
I have a TS9DX right now, looking for a new overdrive pedal, how much of an improvement would you guys say this is? Running a mahogany HSH superstrat if that effects things. Also, how does it differ?
The PGS site has much better quality and a whole page of demo vids, pretty cool stuff when you are shopping. This OD and the new ICE 9 beat the hell out of the 20+ yr out of date tech of the TS9/808 boxes. Time to come into 2010 and SEPARATE tone controls instead of a simple treble rolloff w NO bass boost!! Even the Visual Sound OD beats out any TS box. Another great OD for the bucks by the way. I am sick of the TS yada, having had them all, it's time to move on to better tech and tones.
Hey, I'm trying to decide between this, the SC-2 Valve Distortion Pedal, and the TL-2 Metal Distortion. But I'm a little on the fence. I usually play Avenged Sevenfold or stuff like AFI....Any suggestions?
@Edward1994aim Ive been thinking the exact same thing dude but personally i think the valve distortion is the best out of the three IMO. The TL2 is cool and all for heavy stuff and the tube overdrive is great for classic stuff with not to much gain, but i think you can get alot more out of the valve distortion pedal because it cleans up real nice but you can also saturate it to get real awsome heavy tones. Hope this helps =]
I'm considering getting one of these, does anyone know what they cost, just about? skulle uppskatta om nån svensk kunde tala om priset i kronor, och allra helst va dom kostar på 4sound, sett att dom har i butik, men finns inte på nätet
I think the sc-2 valve distortion would be better for that sound. This pedal has more of a classic rock tinge. I was lucky, I started on a vox valvetronix so i just used the distortion on that for Offspring tone.
ive tried all three of the distortions, actually have a tl-2 on its way to my house! :D these pedals have amazing clarity, but for an overdrive pedal i still prefer my bad monkey. I compared this, the bad monkey, and an ocd and thought the bad monkey was the most organic and warm, i think that was due to the clarity of the other pedals.. to each his own though!! :D
You guys need to remake the Hardwire demos, your video quality(sound and picture) is much better now than when this was made, I feel as if it would do these pedals more justice with better quality. :D You guys rock!
Hey there. I have a nice guitar but my amp is really a cheap one (yes i know i got to replace it and i will in 1 year time or so). i know a bad amp wont give me a nice tone, still i would like to know if a od pedal will do its job.
i'm kinda having ahard time deciding between CM-S2 and TS9DX (i guess it sounds more warm way more (i've tried both), still CM-2 is more powerful... agree?
um, thats pretty much the only way they sound good. my solid state has a very nice clean channel, i dont use the dirty channel but for all my effects and distortions i use pedals. it can sound pretty nice
I play a lot a Pedals. BOSS Metal core, Boss Dyna drive, Digitech hot head, Digitech Screamin Blues, Digitech hw Metal distortion. and so on. I also played this tube driver. And i Can say the new pedal are very good. The sound and all. But i like to say the BOSS DN2 Dyna Drive is better than this Tube driver. U have a the somekind of the same sound but u gain more dynamik with dn2. I like the new series and the HW metal distortion rocks like hell. but converting isnt the same like boss...
Overall a good sounding overdrive. I've seen these things in the store. Pretty solid construction. Knobs are a bit tight for my tastes though. But I like the tone shaping options.
My Butler Tube Driver has a 12ax7 in it and it is the best distortion that I have ever used in my life. But then again it is $300 new so it isn't exactly something for everybody. And yeah I believe that tubes produce the best distortion. And this HW pedal sounds nice. Through Andy's 65 amps Soho tube amp (somewhere over 2 grand). So think about it.
I noticed that, too. I like this guy. In the DL-8 demo, when he's demo-ing the looper, he plays Where Is My Mind by the Pixies. I don't care about these pedals, but I'm going to watch the rest of the reviews to see if he plays anything else that I know.
personally, i prefer the bad monkey over this. this may be more versaitle than the badd mokey but i believe the bad monkey offers better quality as a whole overdrive unit.
@ilovemyfender1 I agree. This pedal has more edge, crispiness, and bite than a Tubescreamer, and bette dynamics. I had both the TS9 and turbo TS9 and they both sounded weak on their own in the low input as my overdrive sound, and mucked up the tone when I used it to drive the high input of my JCM 800. Do you like this or the Valve Dist. model better?
I bought this pedal used and love it. Sounds so warm. The great thing is I put my higher gain pedals (Satchurator & Tone Bone Plexi) and it just makes them sound warm and creamy. GREAT PEDAL!
This pedal sounds great. Can anyone tell me if this would be as good or better than the visual sound route 808 or even the new visual sound 'open road' pedal?
I own a V2 route 66 and after listening to this one I'd say it's a question of taste. I like both but wouldn't change. To me it's interesting to have a buffered pedal in the chain.
I too have a Keeley modified Boss Blues Driver and it sounds pretty damn good, but I sometimes miss the stock tone it had b4 it was modified. It was a little raspier sounding and I think it had less OD w/ the drive turned all the way down (great for a clean boost!). Idk, I liked the tone better (pre-mod) when the drive was between 0-5, but it def sounds better (post mod) now when the drive is pushed pretty hard: between 5-10!!! It's much smoother sounding than the stock BD-2!!!!!
Well it depends on your type of metal man. Solid states are great, Alex Lifeson used overdrive for Workring Man on a solid state, even though he isnt metal, it still sounds great and i tihink it could be used for a more dirty kinda playin. Tube amps are better for overdrive in my opinion, they make it scream more.
this pedal rocks. its like a tube screamer and a mxr wylde overdrive mated and created this! its very customizable which is what i like about it! bombproof too :D
OMG to many new good overdrive pedals comming out this year and it drives me crazy.!!! This urge to get new ones got to stop! Stick to my moded TS9 and concentrate more on practicing!
i had a reissue Ts808 with a Keeley Mod, but i traded it for this pedal, and The Hardwire was exactly what i was looking for. The Hardwire has more volume, True bypass, Active EQ, and 2 gain controls. I love it b/c i can get that Tube Screamer tone but i can bring in more bass for a fatter tone that does not loose the presence that cuts really nice. i Love this sound and i've owned other overdrives Lovepedals, Barbers, Zvex and this guy is worth experimenting with.
hey..i got this pedal now..what do you recomend for distortion,,im gonna put the distortion after this pedal...im choosing between MXR3 and VOX satchurator..hope you can give some inputs..thanks
Blackstar HT DIST man..... try it ... I say no more.... I´m gonna put a demo out on these pedals.... I got CM-2 and HT dist .... man , this is the best configuration I've ever had....
I have a Marshall AVT150h and it is valvestate and does not quite have to tube sound.. can i run this pedal through any amp? or can you only run it though a tube amp?
TRUE BYPASS! I have 3 of the Hardwire pedals now, and I think they are great! Can't decide whats next, this one or the Valve Distortion...These are replacing all of my Boss pedals. Sound great with the new Orange!...
My question would be whether or not it's actually "true bypass" or if they're just bullshitting the term like a lot of pedal companies are doing lately.
They're both overdrive pedals. So, if you mean "comparable" then yes. IF you really mean "compatible" then... well.. I guess but I don't see any reason to have 2 overdrives.
i have a peavey valveking 112 combo, would this pedal used in conjunction with the amps overdrive channel give me a good metal sound with out destroying the amps natural tone
i'm using a mxr dyna comp, maxon 808 and a boss ds-1 with the melanhead mod on the clean channel of mine, i've never really been too happy with the amps overdrive channel. Really really brutal! i'm sure this would do part of the job but not all of it. Sure its expensive, but satisfying!
"overdrive" pedals aren't generally used for metal. Mostly blues, and classic rock. They're supposed to give you the sound of a naturally overdriven tube amp. Using it in conjuction with the distortion channel on your amp might produce some interesting results, but it would be better to just purchase a "metal distortion" pedal. Digitech offers one from the hardwire line, I beleve.
it depends on how the amp sounds to begin with. A 'metal' amp like a 5150 or dual rect will sound a mazing with an overdrive pedal. Digitech metal master gets a decent metal tone out of a fender 1x10 for 80 bux-ish.
I love PGS demos.

i had a reissue Ts808 with a Keeley Mod, but i traded it for this pedal, and The Hardwire was exactly what i was looking for. The Hardwire has more volume, True bypass, Active EQ, and 2 gain controls. I love it b/c i can get that Tube Screamer tone but i can bring in more bass for a fatter tone that does not loose the presence that cuts really nice. i Love this sound and i've owned other overdrives Lovepedals, Barbers, Zvex and this guy is worth experimenting with.
hope this helps.

I have a Marshall AVT150h and it is valvestate and does not quite have to tube sound.. can i run this pedal through any amp? or can you only run it though a tube amp?
hiddeneclipseRG23 3 years ago
Yes, the pedal will work with any quitar amp. Use a clean setting on the amp and dial in the gain with this pedal.
wardmcse 3 years ago
eny amp. thats why it was made.
Epiphone314 3 years ago
it will run through any kind of amp
blakegamemaster 3 years ago
you can run it through any amp
it's just a pedal to simulate the overdrive of a tube amp! so it's for sounding like a tube amp

TRUE BYPASS! I have 3 of the Hardwire pedals now, and I think they are great! Can't decide whats next, this one or the Valve Distortion...These are replacing all of my Boss pedals. Sound great with the new Orange!...
XFattMonsterX 3 years ago
how much are they?
Epiphone314 3 years ago
the the normal price of any pedal really like about 100-120 cuz there newa and really good
BoburtoJr123 3 years ago
100 bucks or so

My question would be whether or not it's actually "true bypass" or if they're just bullshitting the term like a lot of pedal companies are doing lately.
lern2swim 3 years ago
they are true bypass (ie, they remove the signal from the entire circuit with bypass on). You can turn off the true bypass.

Is this pedal compatable to the ibanez tube screamer?
gtrjoe68 3 years ago
They're both overdrive pedals. So, if you mean "comparable" then yes. IF you really mean "compatible" then... well.. I guess but I don't see any reason to have 2 overdrives.

i have a peavey valveking 112 combo, would this pedal used in conjunction with the amps overdrive channel give me a good metal sound with out destroying the amps natural tone
god3334 3 years ago
i'm using a mxr dyna comp, maxon 808 and a boss ds-1 with the melanhead mod on the clean channel of mine, i've never really been too happy with the amps overdrive channel. Really really brutal! i'm sure this would do part of the job but not all of it. Sure its expensive, but satisfying!

i like playing led zeppelin and ac/dc and classic rock stuff. would this pedal be better than the marshall guvnor for playing classic rock stuff?

i wanna know how it sounds with the overdrive cahnnel on the amp for metal tone
predz23 3 years ago 3
"overdrive" pedals aren't generally used for metal. Mostly blues, and classic rock. They're supposed to give you the sound of a naturally overdriven tube amp. Using it in conjuction with the distortion channel on your amp might produce some interesting results, but it would be better to just purchase a "metal distortion" pedal. Digitech offers one from the hardwire line, I beleve.
mcneely2818 3 years ago 3
so it's no analog.
samuelmichaud 3 years ago
Yes this is an analog overdrive.
ProGuitarShopDemos 3 years ago
it depends on how the amp sounds to begin with. A 'metal' amp like a 5150 or dual rect will sound a mazing with an overdrive pedal. Digitech metal master gets a decent metal tone out of a fender 1x10 for 80 bux-ish.
cracksnake 3 years ago
aren't these made by the digitech company, just another name??
apguitarguy401 3 years ago
It is Digitech, Hardwire is just a new line of pedals
darkgamer240 3 years ago
yeah but Hardwire IMO and a lot of other people's is way up there for digitech: they are comprable to way better pedals.
Metallicrazy 3 years ago
