1989 communism (not socialism) failed, 2008 neo-/ extrem- / american kind of capitalism failed. A mix of it is the answer: market economy with power of goverments, which prevent most of drawbacks of capitalism.
I am for capitalism. Those who work deserve pay. I'm not going work and get the same pay for a scum that doesn't work. We seen it fail in Russia,France,Vietnam , all dictator countries.
Various nations have tried one form or another of either Marxism or Socialism and none of those systems have ever proved successful. In some ways the notions of trying to set up a utopia system using collectivisation is just another throwback to feudalism and thus you end up with a heirarchy at top with workers at the bottom.
The soviet communism was EXACTLY what K.Marx wanted.
And there's a difference between communism and socialism,
socialism is the previous step of communism and is violent and totalitarian until the entire world is socialist. Then the socialism turns to communism, like what marx wanted. The deads of communism were caused by capitalists. They hind the revolution and "esports democracy" causing billions of deads for personal proficts
Of course, because Marxist communism is the same thing as Soviet and Cuban Totalitarianism.
You wouldn't be calling it evil if you took the effort to learn more about the political philosophy of communism rather than just basing your judgement on totalitarian regimes that just call themselves Commumist.
"Capitalism might be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions of people, but boy it sure isn't a bad system."
This statement is just as wrong as yours.
You're conflating Dictators' use of murder to retain power with Communism. Communism isn't evil, it's just not possible to be implemented due to most people's inability to relinquish power. But of course you wouldn't know that because you've never learned more than the bastardized version of communism.
@dmgirl3000 Which one are you referring to? Leninism? Stalinism? Maoism? Trotskyism? Maybe even Marxism? See, every leader who leads a communist state, suddenly becomes and evil and corrupt dictator who's warping the real concept of Communism, so tell me, please, what exactly is your definition of pure communism?
@dmgirl3000 I do hate Capitalism too you know, just because I despise Communism doesn't mean I adore Capitalism. Capitalism rules through distraction and entertainment, Communism rules through bullets and gulags, same thing different method of execution.
Except that political philosophies don't espouse that. The problem is that people are incapable of enacting a sociopolitical system on a global scale without human nature coming into play and wrecking it, no matter what political philosophy you enact.
Again, you have to learn the difference between a political philosophy in theory and a political philosophy that has been enacted.
@VagrantNoName He wrote on a computer (which a company built), powered by machines from other companies, using the internet (which a ISP makes money for running) on YouTube (something that sold for billions since it makes profits).

@CalvinGuthrie98 Then you are a hypocrite being on your computer, using energy, being on YouTube and everything else. Go live in a communist country or talk to those who had to live under it. You won't find many that feel anything but hate towards the communism.
@DMHR100 true it's not but why would i invest $40,000 a year for education for engineering when I can work at Subway and live just as well? it defies human reason of doing the least amount of work for the maximum gain.
@czs5056 That wasn't my point. I just say that in that point of view only money can be an incentive for any amount of work. Maeby you want to help the injured more than just get a paycheck, that "defies human reason"? I think that there are a lot of people out there that don't just see money as the only "gain" possible. I'm not defending comunism, I'm just saying that the value of an accupation doesn't only remain in how much money do you make of it.
@DMHR100 of course. all professions perform a useful function, but the paycheck is a reflection of both how much capital a person invested to get that job and how society values that job. (for instance how some people think that teachers are overpaid tend to think that their function is not necessarily as high as a person who thinks they are severely underpaid)
Honestly when you take a look at the theory alone it was a good one but like all good things it was corrupted and twisted&then eventually turned into something evil of course if my dad ever saw this he'd snap me in two considering he is a Ret. SEAL

Marx actually thought capitalism was a great thing in some ways and believed it was the next step in the evolution of society. His one huge grip was how the capitalist treated the worker. Also, he didn't start the U.S.S.R, they were just inspired by his manifesto.
@SAMASzero Glenn Beck gets good ratings because people like his show, not because he is a master showsman who knows how to get phenomenal ratings. The only inaccuracy with this one is that Karl Marx is a German Philosopher (or if you want specifics: Prussian). But I will admit that it might mean his ideas influenced the Bolsheiviks during the Russian Civil War.
Also, Communist is just as flawed as Capitalism, especially when you have people coming up with their own theories of interpreting it. (Ex: Lenin & Stalin) And unfortunately for people, its Stalinism that rules the communist ideology now; thus you support Stalin's ideas.
one of these days i'm going to read karl marx. there was a huge socialist/communist movement from the 1880's to the 2nd world war in the u.s. everytime we had a war the wealthy capitalists would murder, beat, and throw them all in jail under the guise of "patriotism", a little like what bush II did but much worse. what hitler and stalin did was fascist, totalitarianist dictatorships. the crap the tea baggers are yelling is nonsense.
@PhoenixAngel429 ~ i get closer to that decision every year. america is now the least livable country in all the industrial nations. and we seem to be getting dumber.
Anyone who defends communism obviously doesn't understand its implications and consequences nor has lived through its flaws and is forming their opinions on pure conjecture.
What about the continuous failures of Capitalism? Are they to be ignored? At least when Communist dictators became oppressive their regimes began to die off. Can't say the same about Capitalist regimes. They just live as long as we give them weapons.
I couldn't find this because so many people had marked your comment as spam. Hahaha! Regime is considered a negative word, but in reality any government is a regime. To say there have been no capitalist economies would be... well, I mean, come on!
They're considered a scapegoat because they just try to keep things within confines of the law which was forced upon us by the soccer moms of america.
Did you know that the character of sonic team. mephiles a communist and that because the coat is the coldest represents the cold war between the U.S. and the USSR?
Does anyone know where I can get a DVD with this show? I'm in Argentina and it was aired only for a short period of time. I've never seen it again in the past 10 years :(
Look at your cell ! It's beautiful bars. They're made of Gold and stuff. Why are you complaining ? Besides. Living standarts would be by far higher in a true communistic society.
"an area of the world where political, scientific, and philosophical thought had gone static, stagnated."
LOL this is flat out untrue. Nearly all communist states made huge advances in science. Serious planners and scientists in the west woudln't deny this.
Communism may have pulled russia out of the poor house but it killed cuba, turned north korea into a hellhole and impoverished the once developed nations of eastern europe, Poland and hungary included
More accurate: Russia, for centuries, was under the boot of absolute monarchs whose brutality could be legendary. Russia became attracted to Communism because of its status as being dirt poor and populated mainly by serfs who'd had enough (CONTD)
not to mention it's method of exacting revenge on the upper classes/replacing them with a utopian ideal.
From 1917-1930, Russia deteriorates and the ugly truth about communism comes to light: it makes money, but it does not create individual liberty. (MORE)
In a sick turn of events, the men who claim to loathe their former overlord (the czar) make a land grab to regain the Russian Empire's borders after WWII. This bleeds countries like Poland and Hungary of resources that are rightfully theirs until 1989.
Meanwhile, in the East, Communism spreads to Asia: its philosophies mix with deeply embedded cultural mores (CONTD)
where obedience to parents and officials is sacrosanct, where communal harmony is sometimes prized at the cost of individual need or freedom, and otherwise taking place in an area of the world where political, scientific, and philosophical thought had gone static, stagnated.
It has thus far proven to be a deadly cocktail: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, North Korea, and China politically all/have been Communist. Dissenters are regularly killed or arrested or worse. Tradition lauds obedience. The powerful are unafraid to stoke nationalism and invoke a grand cultural history and the humiliation wrought by the West and Japan (DAMN, I am long winded)
and also hold up social and class problems within the West as evidence of decadence, America in particular. The powers are being disingenuous: East Asia indeed was a victim of colonialism, but what is not pointed out is that 1) most East Asian nations had not evolved much beyond the 1500s prior to Western contact 2) such a condition made conquest very easy, even if it was very cruel to do so (HELP ME, I CANNOT STOP...)
3) Japan hasn't been imperialist for a very long time and has apologized multiple times 4) not allowing the public to know the full facts of world events, promoting a xenophobic line of reason, and keeping the public ignorant of history shall only set up the East for failure again. 5) Security is no substitute for freedom.
The Iron Curtain was bad...What is happening now might be worse.
i didnt say the comunist society is perfect but like all societyes it has bouth its high and low points as for it being hard thats a matter of opinion for some people it would be easyer than others
Da Tovarich, you must be the Ideal of the New Man. Why don't you write an article for Pravda or Isveztia. Maybe you can win a Lenin Literature Award for being a good sheep...Errr Follower of the Cause of the Peopl. Das Vidanya.
the communist Ideology isnt that bad an idea. The main problume with it is that its to easly corrupted and turned into a dictatorship, like what Stalin did.
of course thats just the main problume but if communisum where tweked and we managed to get all the bugs out of it so to speak it could prove to be an ideal form of goverment.
I dont think we would ever be able to get all the kinks out of it though...
Oh come on, we're not THAT domineering. I mean, maybe a little bit, when we're playing Yahtzee or something, but it's more of a personality quirk than a defect.
A Cambodian Communist dictator. Have you ever seen a movie called The Killing Fields? If not, please free up some time to see it. It articulates the legacy of Pol Pot better than I ever could!
You can't really say that either is right or wrong. Both have their own flaws and advantages, and, depending on how you were raised, you will see one as less morally justified than the other. What we are seeing in governments today is a sort of trend toward equalizing capitalist and socialist elements in the society -mixing the two to maximize the advantages. Whether one or the other is right, however, depends entirely on your point of view.
That sounds like a really interesting idea, why not combine certain elements of Communism and Capitalism? Equality for the working man, yet provide room and opportunity for advancement.
Beautiful idea.I thought about that one myself. One problem though. The darker side of human nature. The majority would abide by it. But there are those who will find loop holes and manipulate the system for personal gain. That's why all forms of political/economic systems in favor of the masses fail. Someone out there is always willing to slit throats to gain power over others.
Most certainly. Did you know they had to ring a bell during assembly(can't recall proper name) to let people to know when they could stop clapping after he took the podium. No one would stop clapping bc they were afraid he would consider that as a show of disloyalty and would be shot.
No, Communism will fail regardless of powerhungry people. Why? Because people are inherently selfish, and denying this aspect is just a recipe for failure. Nobody will be motivated to become a docter if they can get the same pay doing an easier, less valuble job, just like how a student will not work hard on their studies, if in the end, everyone, even the lazy student will get the same mark.
While countries like Singapore, South Korea demostrate that a market oriented economy works
Sorry I disagree. It wasn't laziness on the peoples part that led to their downfall. It was the lack of food, proper shelter, clothing and anything else you would consider necessary. That leads to low productivity. And actually people jumped at a chance to be a professional. You were treated better if you were designing rockets for Mother Russia. The system in USSR benefitted the few and crushed everyone else. What you sad sounds like the propaganda I heard when I was a kid.
Yes, and the reason there was lack of food, proper shelter, clothing was due to really bad and inadequate state planning, so bad that there was a pretty big black market for even these types of necessitates. I also don't see how your "treated better" if your developing rockets. Working for Nasa is pretty cool too. Also, I like how you summed up my entire argument as propaganda, that's an excellent way of making my argument look stupid, without much effort.
you do know that being a doctor wasn't always a high-paying job, don't you?
(and people still became doctors because, and this is the best part, they wanted to fucking help people)
and if you think communism is like not grading students or something you're just so goddamn retarded that i'm surprised you can type and breath at the same time
Your right, like my great great grand daddy. People paid him with loaves of bread, chickens and work trades. He was a country veterinarian, with a little extra study he became a doctor as well.
Speaking of which, since you seem to defend communism, can you tell me, since you disagreed with the USSR, which country was better at implementing communism?
Was it Yugoslavia, North Korea, Cambodia, China (wait, scratch that one), Cuba, Vietnam, Angola, Ethopia?
Also, what do you think about Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong?
You know, countries that were once poorer then Costa Rica, that went from developing to developed, and an increase in quality of life.
How is stating that people are crushed by a economic system that benefits the highest members of the party supporting communism? The USSR was but an example.
Only if you count in nickels and dimes. Karl Marx made a very BIG miscalculation: his faith in the powerful to always have the interests of his "comrades" at heart. In Communist nations, the power of governing is often concentrated in the hands of a select few (CONTD)
and, because they are in charge of the means of production and more often than not collect the revenue, it often is a recipe for corruption. Further, the one party system inherent in applied Communism does not allow for the removal of corrupt/brutal officials from power as no political alternative is provided (all of the above nations are famous for extreme censorship and silencing of dissent by whatever means necessary.)
Also, if you actually took the time to read my post, I was comparing how under communism, people will feel unmotivated to work hard because everyone is paid equally, in the same way a student will not feel motivated to work hard in school, if his final mark will just be the average of the entire class.
But no, instead you insult me, and apparently cursing makes your argument seem stronger. I don't understand that logic, have you thought about becoming a politician?
yeah, dipshit, and the point is that people are not controlled by greed and do things for other reasons than getting paid a lot. not everyone is a greedy shitheel like you
and giving an entire class the average grade of the class isn't communism you dumbfuck twit, it's possibly the worst fucking analogy you could ever use
but hey you go ahead and keep getting your ideas from that great source of economic wisdom, the FWD: fwd: Fwd: FWD: chain e-mail from your crazy uncle
I don't support communism, but I think there are a lot of people who are intellectually curious and want intellectually oriented jobs, regardless of compensation. Heck, college professors don't get paid too much.

What about the continuous failures of Capitalism? Are they to be ignored? At least when Communist dictators became oppressive their regimes began to die off. Can't say the same about Capitalist regimes. They just live as long as we give them weapons.

Communism may have pulled russia out of the poor house but it killed cuba, turned north korea into a hellhole and impoverished the once developed nations of eastern europe, Poland and hungary included
LickMyNoseHAHAHA 2 years ago
More accurate: Russia, for centuries, was under the boot of absolute monarchs whose brutality could be legendary. Russia became attracted to Communism because of its status as being dirt poor and populated mainly by serfs who'd had enough (CONTD)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
not to mention it's method of exacting revenge on the upper classes/replacing them with a utopian ideal.
From 1917-1930, Russia deteriorates and the ugly truth about communism comes to light: it makes money, but it does not create individual liberty. (MORE)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
In a sick turn of events, the men who claim to loathe their former overlord (the czar) make a land grab to regain the Russian Empire's borders after WWII. This bleeds countries like Poland and Hungary of resources that are rightfully theirs until 1989.
Meanwhile, in the East, Communism spreads to Asia: its philosophies mix with deeply embedded cultural mores (CONTD)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
where obedience to parents and officials is sacrosanct, where communal harmony is sometimes prized at the cost of individual need or freedom, and otherwise taking place in an area of the world where political, scientific, and philosophical thought had gone static, stagnated.
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
It has thus far proven to be a deadly cocktail: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, North Korea, and China politically all/have been Communist. Dissenters are regularly killed or arrested or worse. Tradition lauds obedience. The powerful are unafraid to stoke nationalism and invoke a grand cultural history and the humiliation wrought by the West and Japan (DAMN, I am long winded)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
and also hold up social and class problems within the West as evidence of decadence, America in particular.

I guess with ppl like that, it make you really appreciate this capitalist system we have, with our domineering Republicans and all.
hulkmeister23 2 years ago
You can't really say that either is right or wrong. Both have their own flaws and advantages, and, depending on how you were raised, you will see one as less morally justified than the other. What we are seeing in governments today is a sort of trend toward equalizing capitalist and socialist elements in the society -mixing the two to maximize the advantages. Whether one or the other is right, however, depends entirely on your point of view.
Deluxe489 2 years ago 6
That sounds like a really interesting idea, why not combine certain elements of Communism and Capitalism? Equality for the working man, yet provide room and opportunity for advancement.
hulkmeister23 2 years ago 3
Beautiful idea.I thought about that one myself. One problem though. The darker side of human nature. The majority would abide by it. But there are those who will find loop holes and manipulate the system for personal gain. That's why all forms of political/economic systems in favor of the masses fail. Someone out there is always willing to slit throats to gain power over others.
Nohname1 2 years ago 3
Yes, and the name "Joseph Stalin" comes to mind, many many times.
drsdino 2 years ago
Most certainly. Did you know they had to ring a bell during assembly(can't recall proper name) to let people to know when they could stop clapping after he took the podium. No one would stop clapping bc they were afraid he would consider that as a show of disloyalty and would be shot.
Nohname1 2 years ago
No, Communism will fail regardless of powerhungry people. Why? Because people are inherently selfish, and denying this aspect is just a recipe for failure. Nobody will be motivated to become a docter if they can get the same pay doing an easier, less valuble job, just like how a student will not work hard on their studies, if in the end, everyone, even the lazy student will get the same mark.
While countries like Singapore, South Korea demostrate that a market oriented economy works
janesaysso 2 years ago
Sorry I disagree. It wasn't laziness on the peoples part that led to their downfall. It was the lack of food, proper shelter, clothing and anything else you would consider necessary. That leads to low productivity. And actually people jumped at a chance to be a professional. You were treated better if you were designing rockets for Mother Russia. The system in USSR benefitted the few and crushed everyone else. What you sad sounds like the propaganda I heard when I was a kid.
Nohname1 2 years ago

TTEchidna 2 years ago

Nohname1 2 years ago
Speaking of which, since you seem to defend communism, can you tell me, since you disagreed with the USSR, which country was better at implementing communism?
Was it Yugoslavia, North Korea, Cambodia, China (wait, scratch that one), Cuba, Vietnam, Angola, Ethopia?
Also, what do you think about Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong?
You know, countries that were once poorer then Costa Rica, that went from developing to developed, and an increase in quality of life.
SlypherSpoons 2 years ago
How is stating that people are crushed by a economic system that benefits the highest members of the party supporting communism? The USSR was but an example.
Nohname1 2 years ago
Increase in quality of life...
Only if you count in nickels and dimes. Karl Marx made a very BIG miscalculation: his faith in the powerful to always have the interests of his "comrades" at heart. In Communist nations, the power of governing is often concentrated in the hands of a select few (CONTD)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
and, because they are in charge of the means of production and more often than not collect the revenue, it often is a recipe for corruption. Further, the one party system inherent in applied Communism does not allow for the removal of corrupt/brutal officials from power as no political alternative is provided (all of the above nations are famous for extreme censorship and silencing of dissent by whatever means necessary.)
shadowkitty56 2 years ago
Depends on the doctor
Also, if you actually took the time to read my post, I was comparing how under communism, people will feel unmotivated to work hard because everyone is paid equally, in the same way a student will not feel motivated to work hard in school, if his final mark will just be the average of the entire class.
But no, instead you insult me, and apparently cursing makes your argument seem stronger. I don't understand that logic, have you thought about becoming a politician?
SlypherSpoons 2 years ago
yeah, dipshit, and the point is that people are not controlled by greed and do things for other reasons than getting paid a lot. not everyone is a greedy shitheel like you
and giving an entire class the average grade of the class isn't communism you dumbfuck twit, it's possibly the worst fucking analogy you could ever use
but hey you go ahead and keep getting your ideas from that great source of economic wisdom, the FWD: fwd: Fwd: FWD: chain e-mail from your crazy uncle
