I was surfing Youtube, just checking out videos. Then I came across this video. Being a big Oingo Boingo fan myself, of course I had to check it out. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed!! You guys are spot on, the lead singer sounds just like Danny!! Awesome job!!!!
I just saw these guys in Lake Arrowhead. Being born in '92, I never got to see the real deal. Dead Man's Party is the closest thing to Oingo Boingo I'll ever see. So seeing them meant the world to me!
People have to remember that Danny was 42 when the band parted ways, and he'd been involved in the project (in some form) for over 20 years, 15 of those years as the leader of Oingo Boingo as a rock band. With that kind of mileage behind him, no wonder he was ready for something else.
Where do good bands like this hang out? I miss Oingo Boingo as a Saturday party band - they were a lot of fun and their Halloween Concerts were the BEST. It is so hard to find fun dance music anymore.
Ya know, I was really skeptical about this, but you really are a tribute band, I hope the rest of your stuff is as good as this, considering it's one of my fav oingo boingo songs!!
I have a question. So is the reason Boingo isn't touring because the lead singer is deaf? I seriously wonder why these bands don't want to tour later. I mean they must get bored sitting around home with no purpose in life. I would love to go back up on stage with my fans and people cheering. Playing my guitar having fun playing with my band members. It just doesn't make sense why these guys don't play still.
Danny Elfman isn't deaf, he just has tinnitus from doing all those wicked loud concerts. However, most of the band has gone on to do other things. Danny Elfman's a composer, Steve Bartek does a lot of composing too, along with working with Danny on a lot of his scores, and John Avila owns his own recording studio. Maybe someday they'll get back together for old times' sake, but I think they're pretty happy doing what they love now.
First off, Danny Elfman doesn't need to tour with Oingo Boingo because he has made MILLIONS, I mean 50 million probably, from scoring music for films, secondly, he has Brigitte Fonda at home, why would he want to leave that hot piece of ass to go on the road?
I don't know I figured if you loved playing music with your band why not have some fun a couple of days out of the year playing again. I think that would be the most fun playing on stage with your friends and people singing your songs. But hey what do I know I'm just a crappy dreamer.
The true story is Danny Elfman lost interest in Oingo Boigno, he just didn't want to do it anymore. He found his true passion in composing movie scores. (Interview from behind the scenes of Nightmare before Christmas) He was a great man, but he....just didn't want to do Oingo Boingo anymore...it's bummer. I saw them life a few years back when they reunited without Elfman.
I guess everybody else answered this question, but I will add this - The Lead SInger is NOT deaf. Danny Elfman, the band's creator and lead singer, got into composing film scores for his friend Tim Burton. He no longer tours with the band because of too many personal commitments. It takes a lot of time to be on the road, time he is spending with his family and composing movie film scores. As for the others, I don't know what they are up to.
Simply amazing. I don't normally enjoy tribute bands but this one brings the shining spirit of Boingo back to the stage, which is greatly appreciated.
Is it good ol' Danny ? No, it's quite obviously not. HOWEVER, with his hearing loss, since we're never getting a Boingo reunion, it is the next best thing ...
I heard Oingo do a version at this speed and tempo....but I can't find it! Anyone know what album they might have done it on originally?
genew101 1 year ago
@genew101 Studio version or live version? Studio might have been on Boingo Alive, or the farewell album if you're looking for live
