  • $6.95 + shipping? No way! I just found an adapter for $1 + shipping on eBay so I purchased two.

  • Thanks! I love your enthusiasm!

  • Nice

  • I made one for 5$ with a price of bamboo,my mic I got from a video game, and some zip ties! I just zip tied everything to it and it turned out cheaper and better!!!!!

  • I never asked for this.

  • can you screw a camera onto it to film someone in a high place?

  • @500DrummerSuper probably but your camera might fall off lol

  • BFX would've made this more intresting.

  • Where can I get a mic though????

  • NTG-2 mic would be excellent for this

  • Can someone tell me what mic I can use for this?

  • i just bought this car washing pole with an screwable broom on the end of it from repco, it extends out 3 times to make it 8 Foot, its aluminum and hollow, so you can put the cord straight down the middle, such a bargain!

  • Do i use XLR female to male XLR Cables?

  • @Mayhem69Productions If your camera has XLR input and your microphone has XLR output, then yes.

  • does it take 2 to tango

  • i built it!

  • Love this guy's narration.

  • @GrayStudios, me too

  • Finally another BFX video. I was gettin worried

  • @ModestFilmer you know this video is 4 years old this isn't a new episode and you posted this coment 2 hours ago......lol

  • @Xxcalicondor oops sorry wrong video haha i meant to comment on their new video

  • Comment removed

  • or you can just overdub everything

  • My name is Mike from LA Although there busizz4me.info

  • lol for recording our drums we duct taped one of the instrument mics to a hockey stick then hung it from the drop ceiling with an extra guitar strap and the duct taped the other end of the stick to a small fold out ladder to get the right angle

  • I love the lil stick people!!! :D

  • will the clip work for any shotgun mic?

  • @rajwashot yeah it should providing you have a mic clip to go with it

  • worst advice ever

  • And by the way, most of you that were asking, to record the audio most of the time people don't plug the microphone directly into the camera, they use a Digital Audio Recorder with a microphone input, and plug the microphone into the Dgitial Audio Recorder, using a length of cable.

  • Duct taping it to a to any pole like structure wouldn't work. First of all you need to get a leight weigth material or else the boom will droop down into the shot, secondly if you just duct tape it to a pole there's a high chance that it'll become loose, and the rattling noise will be heard in the audio, or even worse, it'll fall of, and ruin the shot. You can't just use any pole like structure and duct tape the microphone to it because you'll get a lot of noise coming from it.

Press f5 to skip ads or use the above two links

  • @Paragon23100 OR, you could just close the ads by clicking on the X, OR, wait a couple of seconds and poof they're gone

  • Yeah thats all great and good but the boom pole that you by as a boom pole is made of noise dampening material. That's why they're expensive.

  • umm its more like $75 but still cheaper but w/e its all FAKE AND GAY

  • i made mine years ago out of 3 steel structure poles, two connecta-majigs and a bit that goes on the end so that it's like a O except i can "split" it so you can put the mic in it and tighten the nut and then the mic is secure.

  • can i just use my bo staff?!

  • i found a broken microphone stand at a yard sale and it works great

  • Wow. This really helped me. Easy to build and use. Love the outcome. Thanks, Indy Mogul!

  • Get some PVC and duct tape! Much easier!

  • would the adaptor work with a rode videomic?

  • I will try this!

  • i am from Brazil in south america and i just love this channel from down here...

  • I finally made this. I was surprised at how sturdy it was. It cost me less than $11.00 because I already had the mic clip and the 3/8" adapter to the mic clip.

  • I'm still confused about what you plug the mic. into?, like how do you get the sound into the film?

  • HAHAHA it goes into the mic input on the camera.

  • @UnstoppableSlinky So I guess that you'd have to have a cord long enough to extend from the end of the pole to your camera? ...

  • yeah, most mics come in XLR, so you would need an XLR to XLR cable, and an XLR to mini jack cable. Or you could go wireless

  • Not all of us have £3,000 camcorders... :(

  • If your camera doesn't have a mic input then if you have a laptop plug the mic into the mic jack. Then record using your video software. It is that simple.

  • There are plenty of cameras with mic in ports, even from 300 bucks.

  • thats good, keep up the good work

  • I have a boom microphone but it doesnt plug in to my Flip Video. anyone know what to do?

  • The easiest solution would be just to get a cheap digital audio recorder.

  • Thanks! i went to Office Max and found one for $49.99

  • @Toolsquatch Or a cd walkman that records sound

  • @AustinLikesPepsi lol...flip video....

  • @AustinLikesPepsi HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. phew you"re funny

  • I betcha tennis grip will dampen some of the noise from the pole. How bout a bicycle handlebar grip if that doesn't work. Nice way to be frugal

  • very nicee

  • If the pole makes sounds when you hold it, why don't you densen the sound by... Oh I don't know... A duct tape handle? I'm not sure if it will work, but I think it might.

  • Since finding the hanger boat for this thing is damned near impossible, I found a pre-made painter's pole adapter for a shotgun mic. It's 10 bucks online, and for the money you're spending for the extras (around 10 bucks for it all), I think waiting for it in the mail is a good enough thing, considering then you can buy any pole you want and not worry about getting new things.

  • Lol to the pics

  • why do you use two hex nuts instead of one?

  • I made one with a telescoping painter's pole fully aluminum and the thread too. I think it's stronger than the one shown in the video (made of plastic)

  • You fricking rulle. thanks for making this

  • Thanks! The video was helpful! The pole can be slightly loud at times but holding it steady with smooth movement works like a charm! :D

  • @pivoteer971

And I think we all don't give a friggin' crap.

  • i did that but just kinda did it a lil dif but the pole echos if u tap it thts the bad thing so then i got a real one for my bday

  • Just duct tape the damn thing to a broom.

  • :-)

  • @Darwinpasta

    that's what I do hahaha

  • @Darwinpasta you can, but it takes the fun out of it lool

  • @Darwinpasta good luck with that?

  • went to Guitar World today, and got a mike holder.. AND a pole clamp that it screws into.... ended up spending aobut $20 for those 2 parts, but it gives it a much cleaner look, and I will be able to use the pole for other things still.. they also sell a camera mount that can screw onto that same clamp..

  • bought my painters pole, a new mike, and zip ties today.. still looking for a mike stand/holder... so far, so good.. thanks for the video.

  • BEFORE YOU ORDER EXACTLY WHATS MENTIONED HERE:

If you have a mic like the audio technica atr55 (condenser mic) the my325 may be too large for it. the my320 is for condensor mics like the atr55 and fits great.

  • does it have to be a 3/8 x 2 hanger bolt?

  • uhhh...

pvc pipe, shock mic and duct tape. best way!

  • that what i was thinking it would totaly work to

  • Hockey Stick!

  • Lol

  • you can use one of those long distance sound-picker upper things like I do for certain films. Just take your microphone, stick it into a dish or reflective object and it'll work just like cupping your hand to hear farhter. I mean, that is if you have no money for a good microphone and need a quick fix...

  • you also need a shock mount or else you're going to hear the handling noise.

  • a real answer plz

  • ok real instructions plz

  • Great telescopic tube like a clening acessories its great.....or not any suggestion but if i dont have a microphone a computer microphone work..

  • could you use a 3/8 x 3 hanger bolt instead of a 3/8 x 2?

  • its a little longer - (3 inches) so It would work I guess but it will have a little extra sticking out. Maybe you'd need to screw it a little deeper - but you might risk over tightening - worth a try though

  • Okay, You want to ruin your mic with ducttape and have it wiggling around?

  • This "$15 Boom Pole" is costing a heck of a lot more than that. I appreciate you posting a handy video like this, but come on and be honest about the costs here.

ALSO THAT HANGER BOLT IS RIDICULOUS TO FIND! I finally find a place to buy this .33 cent piece, albeit with $5 shipping and it turns out the threaded side for the nuts go smooth halfway down the bolt and the NUTS DONT FIT!! I don't see a hanger bolt anywhere like the one used in this video.

  • Hey I just built this boom pole. It works fine although we did some minor changes. The plastic end was hollow and there was a little wobbling around the bolt so we filled that space with hot glue and now its incredibly solid. I highly recommend doing that.

Another thing is they didn't have the 3/8th hanger bolt in a 2 inch size; the 3 inch was the next best thing and we just sawed off the unneeded parts.

    Hope that helps!

  • Same here man. That damn hanger bolt is a pain to find and all the ones i find online are in bulk.could you give me a link where you found where i can just buy 1 or 2 online with the 10 dollar shipping.I'm desperate!

  • I cannot find a 3/8 x 2 inch hanger bolt at any hardware store nearby. It's the length, none of them seem to sell them smaller than 3 inches. I even tried Home Depot. Is it a problem to use a longer one?

Anyone know a hardware store in the LA area that sells them? I found websites but I dont want to pay $10 to ship a $0.39 bolt.

  • Just made this! :)

  • Will the shock mount shown allow a mic that uses a cold shoe to mount to mount to it? I can't tell a whole lot from the item description. Thanks.

  • can i use any kind of mic? do i have to buy one that connects to a camera? please help!!!

  • Most of the mics used in film are called "shot gun mics". This is because the polar pattern of the mic (graph showing where the mic picks up most of the sound from) picks up the most sound directly infront of the mic from a few feet away. This is a good choice if you are only filming close ups of your actor otherwise you will need to buy a lapel mic to chip onto your actor for further away shots or if they are in a busy crowded area.

  • Huh...I'll be damned. Nicely done on-the-cheap.

  • you shud do a werewolf costume

  • they have...

  • Comment removed

  • Where can I find a 3/8" x 2" hanger bolt?

I've found all the other items, but no hardware store in town carries this item.

    What gives?

  • nice, but once i got everything, how do i recrod??? cuz my mic has a guitar-like wire so i must connect to a guitar amplifier!!! and i don't know what to do to figure out this problem!!!

  • there are adapters, take what you want to plug it into over to the local music shop of any kind and see what they can get you, that's how I did with mine, don't be afraid to ask them.

  • well done...this will make a huge difference in my videos

  • The vendor shown for the 5/8 to 3/8 adapter requires a $15 minimum order. Since you're ordering the shock mount mic holder from B&H Photo anyway, order the adapter from them while you're at it. It's also $3 cheaper.

  • I maid mine for 3€, nice and easy

  • hey. whered do u find that painters pole?

  • Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

  • awesome man. doesnt look bad either.

  • Tried it and it works!

  • lmao

  • I'm using a cannon GL2 and would like to get some better sound. This sounds like a great rig but how to I attach a mic (and what kind) to my camera. Thanks for any advice.

  • my video partner just lost out $900 titanium boom pole on a shoot in Mexico. (I always hated that pole -- would have rather spent the money on editing upgrades). I sent him this video -- hope he gets the hint.

  • just .....thanks

  • My 1st pole was similar I used a pool cleaner pole because they are sturdier. The pole was $18 and was 11' long. I still have it, even though I now have 2 pro poles that cost me $600 10' and $1800 18'. The pool pole is so much heavier than the pro poles I still use it when I have not done boom in awhile to get my arms and shoulders ready.

  • How does it do on dampening handling noise though? That's a big incentive to purchase a professional model.

  • you gtta run the wat down the wat??????

  • Because I'm a cheap bastard I'm going to use some duct tape to secure it.

  • thank you

  • wow what a great Idea, thank you.

  • muy bueno gracias

  • yeah.... oh and versatall thanks for doing the math for us..... actually fyi i skip meals all the time to pay for stuff:)

P.S. Thanks novel enterprise for pointing out that macs suck. I salute you

  • umm ok wheres the duct tape?

  • Why the fuck would it be that expensive for a fucking pole?

  • Alright calm down knobby! Its expensive because it is hard to make and the real poles are pretty much going to last forever. The homemade one will last a good few year.

'You pay peanuts and you get a monkey!' lol

  • I spend $15 a day on beakfast and lunch. I'm sure I'm not the only one, dude just skip a few meals for one day, or bring your own food to work, and you have yourself a boom pole. lol

  • I think he meant the ones you buy.

  • b/c they know they can charge u that much, its as simple as that, its just like apple charging 2X what other companies charge just b/c they know ppl are hooked on buying apple products. Its pure economics.

  • Its the same strategy for drug dealers.

  • yeah.... oh and versatall thanks for doing the math for us..... actually fyi i skip meals all the time to pay for stuff:)

P.S. Thanks novel enterprise for pointing out that macs suck. I salute you

  • How big (or small) of a mic will this shock mount hold? I have an ATR55...

  • i have the same one but i dont have a mixer lol.

  • I just made mine today! Moo ha ha! It cost me 25 cents! :p well I already had the shockmount and adapter..so yeah.

  • i duct tape my headset to a broom stick and that works fine

  • LOL

  • lol run the 2 nuts down bolt i could not stop laughing

  • I actually stumbled on a 12 foot telescoping in my garage. I'll have to get those nuts and stuff :p I already have a shock mount, so do I need that adapter thing?

  • sweet dude!

  • are teh hexnuts even necisary?

  • just use duct tape then going online

  • XLR sucks ass.

  • Why? XLR is industry standard quality.

  • i really liked this idea but you can buy a pretty cheap mic stand and take the base off and it telescopes and everything no need for adaptors you can get a stand for like 12 bucks now a days

  • I made one of these awesome boom poles yesterday. But he cost was wrong: 16$ for the telescoping pole/ 1.75 for the 5/8"-M to 3/8" mic screw adapter and 7.95 for the mic shock mount plus 4.95 for shipping on those two items and .79 cents for the hanger bolt all together $31.44 thats not including the drill bit I had to purchase. BUT ALL AROUND THE BEST DAMN BACK YARD BOOM POLE FOR TEH PRICE AND IT WORKS GREAT... THANKS INDY MOGUL: BACK YARD FX

  • In england we dont have hanger bolts. Any help???

  • You should give the watcher the centimetres as well, most countries actually don't use inches.

  • yeh, because had to sit there working it out !!! lol

  • nice nice

  • Oh yeah can you provide a UK alternative to those parts at end

  • Maplins sell it for £1.49 its part VV45Y

  • Or you could get the painters pole and tape the microphone on with duck tape

  • wow wow wow wait, the start makes sense, but "the next step" ?? thats an extra like $20. I dont get it.

  • if you don't already have a shockmount for your shotgun mic (many models come with 'em), you might need it.

  • its because the title is $15 boom pole, if you add the cost of a microphone and video camera and editing software, it'll go up too.

  • i understand everything besides why you need a adapter or whatever

  • very good an useful tip! thanks

  • Once again you show us why you deserve your popularity. What a cool idea.

    Peace,

    David

  • Oh that is one of the most helpful things you could have told us! I love you guys!

  • Sweet.

  • nice tip, but YOUR audio sucks haha

  • lol, that's deliberate for comedic effect

  • ive watched this video like 4 times make more free films schools please

  • Much appreciated, and don't forget to subscribe!

  • or ducttape a boom to a hockey stick

  • Hockey stick, that's an awesome idea!

  • guess what i was just lookin to buy? thats right! a boom pole, thanx indymogul, you just saved me lotsa money.

  • We'll only charge you $88.95 for this tip :D

  • thx

  • Great Idea!

  • getting that adapter online doubles with shipping

  • Erk! Well, you may be able to find something similar at a local store if you know where to look, or live in a larger city.

  • I cant get the mop head off. My family is pissed because I keep sticking the mop in their face. Plus it smells bad. I had to use an old mop. It only cost me 2.49 but what should I do when my mom wants her mop back?

  • Just tell your mom that film careers are more important than clean floors :)

  • lol, how many people who watch this dudes videos, do any of this lol

  • i do

  • hey I'll use it...

    eventually...

    maybe...
