I was told by Amara Mansare that the man jumping and doing side flips is his father, but I can't remember his first name. He was a reknowned flute player.
LES BALLETS AFRICAINS PRESENTS TO THE UNITED NATIONS 1968 the DVD is now available. Just buy it. I need to show this to my people in teh caribbean who have taken african dance to an all time low. One hip movement with the taboo of male/female contact broken has caused us to descend to a place the Klan would be proud off. You know things are bad when the School STOPS dances now coz of what's going on. But hey Rich Western Tourists like it
I agree with you, but at the same time, I do not agree. As long as it were with YOU only, it was lost...lost because mandingo music is music from AND to the people, so if no one ever publish a video like this, to the PEOPLE be able to see it, for free, to everyone be able to see ( many africans can´t buy an original dvd, for example...as well as many brasilians...), it would be actually, as I said, LOST.
This great and rare video was found by me, Pedro Mendes from Djembe Brasil in USA around 2003. This year, 2008, I sent one copy to Les Ballets Africains and its director is now selling it, so you can all have this one contacting me or contacting Les Ballets Africains.
I have been doing west african dance for over 20 years and this film is my all time favorite. Do you know of any way I can obtain the full version?--They are incredible!!!!
where can we get this film or a video or a dvd of this. this is Africa Dances done at the United Nations in 1959... the best...this film changed my life and saved my feet. when i saw this i had just bought my first point shoes and was about to go on point. i was on scholarhip with the city ballet. hmmmm...after this , the only ballet i do it original...ballet...

do you know if Yamoussa Sylla´s father is dancing in this video?
Because I know that his father was a director or dancer of this ballet.
Thank you!
